Type II Trivia: The Modern Era

10.31.10 Graham Lucas)

Come one, come all! If you’ve been paying attention for the past couple years, you’ll have as good of a shot at this contest as anyone. Today’s main event is “Type II Trivia: 3.0 Style.” That’s right, all ten audio clips come from this era since Phish returned in 2009. Nobody can claim noobership in this contest, as most of you have all these jams stashed away in soundboard quality on your hard drives and iPods…but can you place them? You can earn a total of twenty points for this contest by naming the song and date (1 point each) of each two-minute audio clip. In the event of a tie, I will devise some sort of tiebreaker. Hopefully this contest will shine a light on some highlights and forgotten moments of the last two years. There are no repeats of songs. Please email your entries to me by 12 pm Pacific tonight to have a valid entry. The winner will be announced either tomorrow or Thursday and will have the choice of any piece of merch on-sale for $7.77 in Phish’s Dry Goods Seven Below Sale, including CDs, t-shirts and more. Good luck to all, and have fun!

I’ve never heard that Delaney and Bonnie album…I am going to have to check that out for sure, thanks @dude. Amazing lineup and great track list…I kind of can’t beleive I’ve never heard the original version of Lonesome and a Long Way From Home (I have heard their Goin’ Down the Road)

  2. Lumpyhead Says:

Musically I’m not into brooklyn all that much; but the production qualities make it one of the more enjoyable ones…thus, this next one is sure to dominate.

  3. Mr. Completely Says:

pardon if this has been posted before

  4. sumodie Says:

@mrC: wow, that pic of Mick is awesome -you can see it in his eyes that he is owning that room, what a shot -thanks for the link!

Gimme Shelter is my all-time fav rock n roll tune -still gives me shivers when I hear it start

  5. Aquaman Says:

For those who could potentially start moving away from fall sports on this football but not footbell free Tuesday……

Tonight is a NHL Network double header made in heaven for Riversack – Alice Walker and myself.

    8:00 PM – Blackhawks / Blues

    10:30 PM – Red Wings / Sharks

I know it’s early but both these match ups could have playoff potential down the road.

Red Wings – Sharks for certain. The Wings could still be sore that San Jose…..

“….ousted the Red Wings in five games during the Western Conference Semifinals 2010……

    Have fun and watch ‘baned.

  6. EL Duderino Says:

Bonnie Bramlett sang with Albert King @ 14

She was also the first white Ikette @ 15

  10. Aquaman Says:

    @Chuck D

We were looking for a “Yes Sir!”

But, I’ve conferred with the judges and they will accept an “Okay.”

  11. EL Duderino Says:

    Nice article sumodie…

Mike is tryin’ to figure out life like the rest of humanity…

I’m gonna have to read The Artist’s Way…

Might inspire my 6 string playin’

  12. Spasm Waiter Says:

Duder- I believe she went blackface for the Ikette gig. No shit. Also, I think she bailed on it pretty shortly afterwards. Thats a tall order for a 14 yr old.

  13. EL Duderino Says:

    @ spasm

Yer joking about the “black face” right?!?!

  14. Spasm Waiter Says:

Duder- Scratch that. Not sure where I got that idea…

  15. Mr.Palmer Says:

    “. . . I get to do Possum enough with Phish . . . ” – Mike Gordon

    ya think 😉 llfa! 🙂

  19. BingosBrother Says:

From the MG interview about his vocal coach.

“Actually, what she’s doing now is working with Pete Seeger and a couple other people in this group she calls the Good Earth Singers, and they are trying to get 15 million people to sing at the same time on that day the world is supposed to end. There’s a chant she’s working on with tons of choirs and choruses lined up all around the world.”

    I’m getting in.

  20. John Says:

‘Amazing Grace’ for New Years?… or have they put this one to rest.

And what about ‘don’t you wanna go’, ‘olivia’s pool’, ‘the landlady’? Will we ever get a chance to hear these again.

What is it about my morning jacket that phish phans don’t like? My brother and i were standing in line at a phish show last year and were talking about an mmj show we saw over the summer and the people around us started looking at us like we were crazy for talking about the show (which was right up there with the energy, playing, and that feeling you get at a phishshow.

  21. Mr.Palmer Says:

Looking forward to catching a MMJ show sometime in the near future. I’ve heard they are a great live band.

  22. Chuck D Says:

world wide singing is a cool idea… but based on a completely arbitrary date.

conceptually, it reminds me of “world meditation hour” (associated with TM)

  23. garretc Says:

I really liked Z and Okonokos, but for whatever reason when I saw them live at Outside Lands this year I thought they seemed a bit overdramatic, and it seemed like they decided to hop on the tidal wave of throwbacks to the 80’s that’s going on these days. Admittedly I wasn’t paying total attention, so this is hardly a scientific opinion, but I was slightly let down… But I do really like those albums! Evil Urges kinda sucks though, unfortunately…

  24. Dublin97 Says:

I tried MMJ after hearing good things – and bought Okonokos. I tried it a quite a few times and like some of the songs. But there is nothing remotely type-II on the album. I’m sure a concert would be fun – but for listening on the couch or in the gym – It’s not for me.

  25. kayatosh Says:

started spinnin these type II clips. pretty sure I won’t get even one point, which is a credit to phish’s type II powers. root song becomes indistinguishable. they are certainly fun to listen to.

palms: saw MMJ live once (2007 or 8) and was duly impressed. had a good time. also met some of the members of the band. a laid back crew for sure.
