Miner’s Picks – Fall 2010

10.8.10 - ACL (Graham Lucas)

I have finally listened to Fall Tour enough to be able to drop “Miner’s Picks: Fall 2010.” But there were far too many highlights, that’s my problem right there. So instead of limiting myself to one version per song on a tour that featured a fairly tight rotation, I decided to split the run into three chronological chunks and form three mini-sets of fall jams. Obviously, I could have chosen multiple versions of almost all songs, but unless their was a dire need to double up, as in the case of a song combinations (“Pipers”) or two versions I couldn’t choose between (“Ghost”), I did my best to single out my favorite versions without repeating songs. Without further ado, here are my picks. (Torrent link is at the top of the list, direct download links are at the bottom.)

Well done! That’s a fantastic picks – no deliberate obscurities, all top-shelf picks. Who’d have thunk for a relatively short tour that we would get such a generous dose of great Phish. My only addition would be the Manchester WOTC (perhaps in place of the 10/30 Tube?).

  4. ATL007 Says:

The segue from “Split > Have Mercy” is simply one of the best transitions ever.

“Night Nurse” never never gets old. Killed it. What soul. Sticks in my head

And sorry to Little Feat but they never played “Spanish Moon” that well !
    So So crazy hot.

Great list Miner…and you are right way too much to choose from..

  5. Oldskool Says:

Hey guys. Crazy schedule so have not been around for a few weeks. I hope everyone is well.

Great list Miner! My only surprise is no Manchester Light. I do prefer personally prefer the Augusta Light > 20 Years Later, but the Manchester version is pretty huge. Interesting to see back to back Stash’s but not Light.

  6. Oldskool Says:

I know the Utica Bowie is likely the popular choice, but I totally agree with you on AC 2001 > Bowie

  7. Al Says:

Great picks, Miner. I took it as an old-school challenge to put this Fall tour on two (!) CDs.
If you want to burn two “best of SBDs” CDs – take these:

    1. Crosseyed (10.16)
    2. Sand (10.20)
    3. Bowie (10.29)
    4. All that you dream (10.31)
    5. Stash (10.31)
    6. Bowie (10.29)
    7. Reba (10.19)

    1. Tube (10.29)
    2. Split open > Have Mercy > Piper > Split (10.20)
    3. The Curtain with (10.16)
    4. Fluffhead (10.16)
    5. Tweezer > Zeppelin (10.30)
    6. Spanish Moon (10.31)

  8. Matso Says:

    @Al –
Some of the dates look a bit off (Bowie on 10/29 x2? Tube on 10/29?). I would have thought your Teutonic heritage would have been more precise 😉

forgot my CD backside cover in the car…

  11. Gavinsdad Says:

One more time for that nice and slow ghost>mango tranny.

Great job Miner. I think the cool thing about this particular list is that for the first time we’ve all talked these jams out so much thAt I kinda knew what was coming. And that’s a serious amount of goodness for one tour. Gonna do a little Bowie study today methinks.

Also, def honorable mention to the WOTC @matso mentioned. Really well played.

  12. Calpain Says:

It has arrived, thanks Miner for putting this together!

Thanks for the ticket re-release suggestions from yesterday, happy belated birthday @PurpleHBW, it is my roommates today so we will be celebrating this evening.

    oh yeah…Happy Friday Everyone!

  13. darkphish Says:

    thank you Mr. Minor.

  14. nonoyolker Says:

Great choices Miner! Going to cue up the picks and re-review the fall (again…). Been on an 80’s dead kick for weeks, so it’s time to jump back into the phish pool.

One jam from fall I kept going back to was the AC Walk Away. 6 min shredfest.

^ Worcester highlights. Aulde Lange > DWD NYE ’93 jam and the hour long ’97 Jim. Nice little freebee

  15. phoammhead Says:

    great list Miner!

i bet this was a harder than average tour to make your Picks!

  16. Dublin97 Says:

    Thanks Miner.

Only wishes not on the list: Manchester Curtain With – sublime version and Vultures from Utica, again, top-notch rendition.

    Anyway, thanks again.

  17. KfL Says:

the fact that one of my favorite pieces of music from fall is omitted here, and that i have no real grounds to complain b/c of the strength of what is here, speaks to how good this fall tour was. well done miner.

    10/12 carini>bowie

  18. neemor Says:

    I like Miner’s Pick’s.
    Good representation.
Good stuff on Page yesterday, too…I went back and re-listened to some of my favorite numbers from the Fall to focus on his piano playing.
    Page is the man.

  19. angryjoggerz Says:

Awesome, I needed to get this playlist together for my upcoming 14 hour flight, this will do nicely. Thanks!

  20. Good_Hood Says:

An almost perfect list…except I definietely would have thrown the Utica Vultures on there. I can’t even begin to think of how many times I’ve spun Vultures and the beautiful Wolfman’s that followed (a very tasty double-dip, if I do say so). But for such a short tour, with such a great number of choices to try to fit in – I really have no business bitching.

  21. jdub Says:

A very thoughtful and evenly dispersed list Miner! Well done.

  22. Foul_Domain Says:

    Great picks, Miner.

Everybody should check that monster ‘Jim’ from LiveBait 3, if you havnt already. Its quite an adventure

  23. SillyWilly Says:

  24. SillyWilly Says:

  25. P.S.H.S. Says:
