Weekend Nuggets: Tour Finales
Our long and winding road through Decembers of lore has finally come to an end. On December 17, 1995, Lake Placid’s finale concluded a monumental 54-show fall tour whose size would never be approached again. On December 18, 1999, in Hampton, Virginia, Phish punctuated their second tour of fallĀ — a two-week millennial prep course for the event of their lives. In each case, Phish spun two sets of celebratory anthems, crafting upbeat shows to send their fans home for the holidays. Enjoy the final step on our journey through Decembers past, because Worcester is only nine days away!

It’s hard to beat nearly 40 minutes of grooves to start off a set. This was the end of 1999; Y2k was upon us, and we were heading into Chief Jim Billie’s territory.

too help me post with proper grammar.
garretc you’re the king of the word jokes.
I’m anticipating your response: What does my kingdom look like?
My answer: A dictionary.
@Jtran
I should have known you were ready. I would expect nothing less.
gotta keep your employers on their toes.
and here’s one to get anyone in the christmas spirit. just have it in your head while shopping and nobody can get you down.

it’s called getting your grustle on (grind + hustle = grustle)
part of the rites of passage. tour is a thousand times easier simply because of the ease of getting summertime tickets, which is precisely what you’re touring for. you are touring because you need to get a ticket to get in to see the show. everything else is nonsense and easy. sell the beers and don’t drink your product to get tic and gas money, make friends and get the homie rate on lot food, short eighths, tix on the ground, party fucking time.
PS…i have been having this weird feeling that there will be a really nice W to E southern run Summer ’11. they have sprinkled their goodness on the W Coast proper (greeks and gorge). now AZ>NM>TX>LA>MS>AL and perhaps TN and AR need a proper taste. that tour right there would be BIG trouble for me. you might find a 41 year old man in the back of your Subarus boys.
@Silly
Actually, I think my first question would be related to what my royal perks would be, but if my kingdom is a dictionary, I’m thinking the perks won’t be so hot…
for the record, i’ve done tour before. i will not be anyones tour bitch. and f anyone who implied i should be. (bigjig)
I like these ideas. A phishthoughts bus with driver…we have kicked around a driver for years with a mini-bus…i’d be pricey, but the best time ever….we’d have our own tour bus…getting back to the bus after the show, first priority would be bong hits, not maps and gps systems….the driver’s got it covered.
@Garretc
Your first perk is you always win Scrabble.
May not come in handy right now, but when you’re 60…
you’ll be all that and a bag of chips.
i had a hard time keeping up with Bigjig, butter, AW and their buddies for just one nite in AC. 10 shows would put me in the ground.
^dude Miner please stop. that type of talk is making my hands clammy. (LETS DO IT).
@Miner
re: Bus Driver
I’ll start studying atlases right now.
I could even work an angle at Triple A if that will improve my resume.
Doing a full Phish tour would be a life-changing experience, that’s for sure. I can only imagine the kind of fun that would be. Takes a whole lot of work though.
i was just looking for carpooling to really act green on tour. gotta represent, phish made top 15 green acts
holy cow, a tour bus. that’s carpooling in style
@BK
Do you graduate HS in 2012??
I graduate Law School in 2012.
Let’s face it. Im not the best law student and I probably won’t be employed. What better way to celebrate unemployment than heading out on tour?
We could do summer tour ’12.
BBBus
Summer 2011
the BBBus sounds glorious.
How you folks gonna get the bus to Europe?
I’d need a good divorce lawyer before i could pull a tour off. little 2-3 packs sprinkled here and there is where i max out.
@Mr. P
Help me (tour) help you (tour).
^^ pure genius.
Yeah @Silly I graduate HS in 2012. If I’m gonna be pushed into college the end of that Summer (which could happen), I’d definitely want to do that.
I guess I can start saving now, because regardless, I want to have $ to see shows on my own when i start driving.
for the record (since there is one here I guess)….I was totally joking about the sponsorship part of the idea. BUT, finding a sober driver would be so money. How much could it be to contract someone? and how much for a bus? it’s all just daydreaming at work for me anyway.
Youre either on the BBBus or off the BBBus
I might just have to figure this out and charge you mutherfuckers for the rides…I hate my job anyway.
phishthoughts tour bus. it’d make for a great book. a bunch of yahoos of various ages and soci-economic backgrounds from all over the country and beyond come together with the common thread being phish tour.
