I didn’t realize the unrecognized Manteca sign from AC got an additional “?!”

That must have sealed the deal. Funny stuff right there.

  2. kayatosh Says:

jtran: indeed there are some 09 highlights, mainly concentrated toward the back half of the year.

I just love the photos! I’ve been listening to the shows too – boy, they threw down!!! I have a bunch of photos I took… If anyone is interested in reviewing them, please contact me!

10.19.2010 reba may need a fourth $. absolutely brilliant.

great article Seif, thanks for posting.

Is the letter he quoted at the very beginning from a blackboarder? Isn’t there a Holger from Germany who posts here or am I confusing him with someone else.

At any rate, this run will keep me busy for a while as I digest all 11 sets. The diversity of sets they laid down is astounding and unique to this band. I hold 12/28 set 2 in as high regard as any from MSG, it just has a different musical vibe and wasn’t the raging set that gets everyone off. I love that delicate spacey Phish scape they hold down for the latter half of the set after getting everyone moving for the first half with Carini, # Line, BOTT, LxL and then marking the shift with Wedge. Not the most mind blowing jamming (aside from Hood of course) but very poignant playing with a storytelling nature from start to finish.

Towards the end of the day yesterday, I started digging back through some ’09 highlights and many stand the test of time.

However, i let some of the shows play through and had to switch many of them up due to Trey’s tone. Was almost painful to listen to. Lot of slop in there too. Nice to document just how far they have come after this past fall tour and the last 2 nights of MSG

In ’10 I am most thankful for the return on Trey’s tone and chops. Thank you Jeebus!

fish: “crab in my shoe mouth” during 10.19 reba.

manteca hints all year, as buitter noted yesterday, culminating in YEManteca on NYE.

  8. BingosBrother Says:

@kak : send them to Miner, he’s always looking for photos. love your blog, you’re a funny mf.

Ghost opener this morning. pretty sure Page turns on and off the faucet on that one. May not listen to anything else today.

  9. kayatosh Says:

nonyolker: i find the refinement of the trey tone to be the most improved element from 09 through 2011. if trey’s tone grates, I head for the gates.

next up blossom (6.12) #line. can it stand next to some of the exceptional jams we heard recently?

^^^^^well put, jdub. I’m right there with ya. love that set. grateful for it.

i followed that manteca sign everywhere. telly, ac, msg. was glad to be there when it dropped.

  12. Mitch Says:

robear, email me when you’re up. i got that msg masthay set for you.

  13. jdub Says:

@Kaya, glad to see people here giving Woosta some props. It seems to get a lot downplay on the intrawebs because it wasn’t raging madness like 12/31 and 1/1

Manteca left a huge mark on fall tour and the New Years run. I know the staccato playing is something that has been around for a while in one form or another but I have pondered what led to what this fall: the Manteca quoting or the staccato jamming? In retrospect, the new age staccato jamming began in that Reba Manteca mini jam. I have very limited knowledge of the technical aspect of music but I can sure as hell hear a connection between Manteca and this evolved staccato jamming.

  14. nonoyolker Says:

@ Kaya – Blossom # line was one of the jams I spun yesterday. Still $$$ to my ears. Some great urgent ambience toward the end of that one. Gem is a kinda ehh first leg of summer

  15. nonoyolker Says:

    * in a kinda ehh…

Just gave the DCU Stash a close listen – don’t sleep on this one, very nice work. Delicate section in the start, solid peak, well done

  16. butter Says:

just as we said yesterday that the MSG Light was the least interesting of 2010, from my few spins of Woost Carini, it sounds like the least interesting Carini of 2010 – a year filled with great ones

  17. butter Says:

will spin that Stash today nono

  18. nonoyolker Says:

@ Butter – i think AC Stash still has it beat by a good margin, but a solid effort. That AC Stash is something special. My favorite since the return.

Going to spin the RR version today, as someone was talking it up yesterday. RR feels like forever ago now…

  19. butter Says:

    awesome pictures

top is of the new Manteca sign, the kids had to make after getting their old one stolen

  20. butter Says:

our b’ day stash! its a keeper, set the bar kinda high and Stash’s didn’t live up for a while to the RR one

  21. DukeOfLizards Says:

    @butter

Add Theme to the list of all-2010 performers that were non-notable (possibly even letdown) performances over the holiday run.

Good news is, how many best-of-2010 performances did the run give us? I can think of five or six no-brainers off the top of my head.

  22. Mitch Says:

If that’s the worst light, id say things are in their right place right now.

  23. HarryHood Says:

Morning BBer’s! Cold and snowy day here in VT……. as usual 😉 Perfect day to give the Trey from Princeton a spin while driving into work at a blistering speed of 15mph.

  24. Litteringandd Says:

Has anyone on this board been to Pretty Lights show? Looks like good time

  25. willowed Says:

I have to agree. 2010 Theme’s have been very very special

I recall getting home from the Hartford shows and posting that a top highlight was the Theme.

A few BB’rs mentioned I must be spun to put that song in the highlight file after a show. Trust me, I was shocked too. Theme’s delivered this year!!
