Is anyone else picking up these staccato funk phrases all over the place? Ever since the New Year run I keed finding them.
Just listened to the Cypress Sand (thanks KP and the SBD Project) and I caught myself listening to these little staccato licks.
Different but very similar. Right around the 7:40 minute mark.

I am not a guitar player but it sounds like the same style.

kind of a slap in the face for folks that have spent big coin on live phish to not be able to get the BEST possible product the same way you’ve been getting it….just sayin

i guess the option is there for hard cd’s

  3. willowed Says:

jdub..road trip to Boston for Trza. Can you make it happen?

  4. butter Says:

very cool that they are remastering

just don’t make a scarcity about it

  5. neemsbane. Says:

willowed, kfl mentioned that last night and miner said its been going on forever. but this go round, the band steps the hell up.

  6. mitch Says:

    i. hate. aliases.

  7. kenny powers Says:

it is weird butter. esp since physical media is slowly evaporating. i get the desire to have a tangible “collector’s” item of a limited edition remaster, but at least use some bandwidth to offer a FLAC. actually they should really be offering it as a 24-bit FLAC (FLAC HD)

  8. mitch Says:

gotta be a ploy to get people to shell out the cash butter. limit the run and people will step up and buy rather than dilly dally. these dudes are trying to get paid. they are having trouble paying the bills these days.

  9. ThePigTail Says:

anyone remember the rumored Atlanta dates in May? I’m trying to block off some time so I don’t end up in Vegas for a bachelor party that weekend. (I know it could be worse)

  10. poop goblin Says:

    no doubt Willow

the staccato funk is an old Trey trick

the new sound has more to do with the others playing in a similar feel on top of Trey

just exaggerates the feel. most of it comes from Page playing similar licks on top of it.

  11. ThePigSong Says:

I remember thinking that The Wedge was almost Type II – so that’s how they played it in ’93?

  12. jdub Says:

Hadn’t planned on it Willowed. But if you drive I probably won’t need that much convincing. Been thinking about Trey tour. Could be interesting actually, sit through an acoustic set and then get an entires night worth of full band creative energy in one set. That one set be worth it.

  13. kenny powers Says:

don’t look now but my Friars are up 24-16 against #7 Villanova…

  14. willowed Says:

I love the way Page and Grordo rap their play around it now. Before Trey would do his little likcs and it seems like they (page and gordo) kept doing their own thing.
Now page mimics Traza with his organ or clav (not sure which one) and Mike weaves thru the staccato licks.
I really dig it (the new sound)
    Love the communication

  15. neemor Says:

I’ll drive to Boston for Trey.
Mango maybe meet me in New Haven.
We can go with willowed and jdub….if they don’t mind.

  16. jdub Says:

I guess the main difference with staccato Trey work these days is it’s now a staccato jam and not just some notes. Like AW said, full band participation these days with Teey on that one. I like it a lot.

  17. mitch Says:

extra trey shows are tough for me. was gonna do philly til i saw it was at the “please bend over while i stick my arm up to my elbow up your ass center”

my bday is 2.26 so i’m headed home on the train so my days are all laid out around that time.

  18. willowed Says:

I will be staying up there guys. More than welcome to ride but I will be rolling back next morning.

It would really be great to have a nice little crew. TIII’s bday

  19. mitch Says:

gonna be a full day each way but its cheap and i can avoid the airport and puff on my stops.

  20. mitch Says:

so i didnt make it up right? there were atlanta and mpp releases? when did those happen?

  21. jdub Says:

Make it a full on group road trip @Neemor. Now my wheels are turning as my last fix fades further away.

  22. jdub Says:

An even better idea Willowed. I got some peeps in Boston that are probably going. I’m still not too old to steal a couch for a night. Is it sold out?

  23. bouncin fan Says:

damn this DWD > Free is hot

haven’t heard this since I was there

this is why 95 summer is my favorite tour
    so great

  24. mitch Says:

dont forget about the two bk bowl shows for mike. only 15 bucks.

  25. neemor Says:

These Trey and Mike shows were clutch last year as a way to bridge tours and get the feel.
Sort of like Phish Light. (ie, Miller Light.)

Wasn’t planning on any of them this go ’round because there’s none at the Oakdale or Toad’s but if you guys are down for it, the blackboard makes all the difference.
