Phish Confirmed At Watkins Glen?

A local blog from New York State, Bands That Jam, is claiming that Watkins Glen is official, contracts have been signed, and that the festival will be an 8-set, Phish-only affair from June 30-July 3rd! Let’s hope this report is correct. I’m not doubting anyone’s journalistic integrity, but one can’t believe anything until it’s on Phish.com.

Well, I would probably go with the torrents, that way you can pull both tiers simultaneously, which I did cause my internet connection at home is brutally slow… I know at least I’m seeding them right now, and will be for a couple more hours today, and then again later tonight I’ll be able to leave it open for days, pretty much…

But I didn’t try the hosting site, so I don’t know how quick/easy that’ll be… I don’t think you can go wrong either way, really!

I was about to recommend Limb By Limb from Lemonwheel as a great jam, but then I realized that the version I’m thinking of is from Went…

But the Went Limb By Limb still comes highly recommended!

    11/22/97- new source to circulation

  4. phoammhead Says:

so, the format is the same on either download – mp3, yes?

in other words there’s no choice to be made other than how to download, correct?

  5. garretc Says:

Yup, they’ll both come out the other side as mp3!

  6. phoammhead Says:

    ^thanks gc!

  7. jdub Says:

Count me in on the RV Willowed. Not looking good getting the family up there. Wife wants a real vacation that doesn’t include Wooks, 80,000 people, and my distracted attention.

  8. garretc Says:

Not a problem, happy to help!

  9. garretc Says:

    Your wife sounds boring…

(I’m sure she’s actually a very nice lady, but that would have gotten in the way of the joke…)

  10. willowed Says:

    Nice jdub

  11. jdub Says:

She is boring in that regard, not a party girl at all. But stable as rock. Which I need.

i tried the torrent first but it didn’t go or i couldn’t get it to go, so i went with the iPutIt zip download, which seems to be downloading fine

i would like to do the torrent someday

anybody got any tips or tricks to follow?

  13. Mr. Palmer Says:

phoam- on a mac, i use a free program called ” transmission” for my torrenting. Then to convert the flac/shn to wav or someother itunes ready format use Xact ( also free). It takes a little getting used to but worth it in end.

I end up skipping the conversion part and just listening to flac via COG (also free music player). For itunes usage, you must convert though.

This guy is doing some interesting stuff in painting/photography.

  15. phoammhead Says:

sounds like a lot of trouble, MrP, but you say it’s worth it

anybody else want to chime in on torrenting with a mac?

  16. garretc Says:

I use transmission as well, and I convert to .wav using xAct, a free program. Then I convert again in iTunes to mp3 for space saving reasons, which you do by selecting all the tracks to convert, then go to advanced menu and select convert to mp3…

But other than that, just make sure you have designated files for torrent files and FLAC output so you can keep everything organized…

  17. Gratefulcub Says:

Are the live phish remastered shows from the Greek worth buying if I already have the lp downloads?

  18. phoammhead Says:

    thanks MrP and garretc

i’ve got a text file started with your notes

anybody else want to add anything?

  19. phoammhead Says:

holy sweet – i feel rich – thanks, KP! – just got the leaked tracks and tier 2 bonus compilations downloaded and added to itunes – didn’t use torrent – that was easy! 😀

  20. plord Says:

@willowed – very tentative yes on the RV. Still gotta win the argument but sounds like a killer plan.

@garretc the electronics in the Moog guitar are crazy. You can set the pickups for infinite sustain or infinite damping (taking staccato jams to a new level). The sustain thing is like having a touch-controllable e-bow on each string; you can *feel* the guitar giving energy to the string. It’s wild, you definitely start thinking in non-guitar idioms just toying with it. With all the gimmicks turned off, it’s still a nice axe, not the most liquid pickups you’ve ever heard but not brittle. Hate the pointy-guitar look of the thing, though.

I’ve seen Fareed play a fretless 12 string. Can’t wait to hear what he gets out of the Moog guitar after dedicating some time to it.

  21. Jtran Says:

You free at all this afternon? Garretc is coming over for brunch/chillin til around 3.

  22. Robear Says:

all right team. remind me which airport to fly in for Watkins? Want to head straight to KfLizzle and jump in the RV.

of course, don’t we need to find out which shows will be right before the festi?

  23. KWL Says:

phoam, miner has a torrent tutorial here

but as others have said, use transmission to run the torrent files

if the file you’re downloading is mp3 (as is the case with KP’s sbd project), you’re all set, just play when the dl finishes

but most lossless music comes as flac – you’ll need to either decode to a format you can play (I use XLD to convert flac to mp3 or apple lossless), or get a program that plays flacs directly (like cog or vlc media player)

once you finish downloading, you should leave your torrents running in transmission so you seed just as much as you download… (your ‘share ratio’)

  24. KWL Says:

yeah robear, i’m waiting to see how the tour shakes out before making definite plans, but an rv is definitely in order. where the rv trip originates depends on tour dates before the festi i’d imagine…

  25. Gavinsdad Says:

    BB brunch. Love this place.
