Ten Tunes For Friday: 1994

Many enjoyed the focus on one era last Friday, so this week we put the magnifying lens on 1994. Without choosing one particular tour, here is a tasty sampling from the entire year. Enjoy another installment of Ten Tunes, and have a great weekend!

1.1.11 (La Jaunie)

Reba” 6.13.94 II

1994 and “Reba” go together like peanut butter and jelly, and this is but one of many outstanding versions.

Peaches,” “Bowie” 11.14.94 II

An imposing start to the second set in Grand Rapids, Michigan.

12/2010 (Lavery)

Down With Disease > Have Mercy > Disease” 11.12.94 II

A classic sequence from Kent State University in Ohio.

Tweezer” 6.29.94 II

A succinct yet heavy version during Phish’s first visit to Walnut Creek.

11.21.09 (Rogell)

Stash > Catapult > Stash” 10.23.94 I

An improvisational beast from Gainesville during the band’s Florida swing of October ’94.

2001 > Split Open and Melt” 7.9.94 II

A fierce beginning to Great Woods’ final set of a two-night stand.

Harry Hood” 10.20.94 II

A top-shelf version from St. Petersburg, Florida during October ’94.

“I’d been to my roomate from rehabs funeral that day, I wore all white in protest. He died from aids, and his parents never came to see him in the hospital. At the funeral they spoke of Howie like he was a saint, but they treated him like a base animal. I shoveled dirt on his casket and said I’d celebrate him via dance later that nite. And I did just that.”-GDad

Who, some heavy ass shit right there! Sorry mang

  18. Spasm Waiter Says:

    Hey Gang-
Fired up for some choice 94 Phish. I had just arrived at UVM during the Fall of 93. Saw some great shows that year, but not one of the day’s featured. Boyz were riding a wave that year for sure.

GD- Thanks for sharing that memory.

I brought a buddy to his first Phish show (MSG 09) and we caught the Peaches. Place went bananas. He looks at me and asks, “WTF?” My response, “Zappa tune that they rarely play.” I definately didn’t think it’d been 10 years though. He actually got IT, at the next show.

  19. EL Duderino Says:

Bob Marley & The Wailers “Live Forever” 9/23/80 – Stanley Theater – Pittsburgh, PA. Last Performance.

on the ’93 NYE Run they played it three times in four shows (all in the first sets). caught the first two but not the third since I didn’t hit the worcester portion of the run. took me until NYE 96 to catch that many again!
