Ten Tunes For Friday: 1994

Many enjoyed the focus on one era last Friday, so this week we put the magnifying lens on 1994. Without choosing one particular tour, here is a tasty sampling from the entire year. Enjoy another installment of Ten Tunes, and have a great weekend!

1.1.11 (La Jaunie)

Reba” 6.13.94 II

1994 and “Reba” go together like peanut butter and jelly, and this is but one of many outstanding versions.

Peaches,” “Bowie” 11.14.94 II

An imposing start to the second set in Grand Rapids, Michigan.

12/2010 (Lavery)

Down With Disease > Have Mercy > Disease” 11.12.94 II

A classic sequence from Kent State University in Ohio.

Tweezer” 6.29.94 II

A succinct yet heavy version during Phish’s first visit to Walnut Creek.

11.21.09 (Rogell)

Stash > Catapult > Stash” 10.23.94 I

An improvisational beast from Gainesville during the band’s Florida swing of October ’94.

2001 > Split Open and Melt” 7.9.94 II

A fierce beginning to Great Woods’ final set of a two-night stand.

Harry Hood” 10.20.94 II

A top-shelf version from St. Petersburg, Florida during October ’94.

  19. plord Says:

@DF Gorge Gin is awesome for sure, but I find myself going back for the Sally jam more often. Different strokes…

  20. plord Says:

aaaaan good morning BB. Another foot of snow last night here by the lake. Might have killed our satellite TV feed, which is completely unacceptable on Super Sunday. I smell man’s work. Getting the ladder and an ice scraper now.

  21. Mr. Palmer Says:

    careful up there @ Plord!

    Packers- 31

This score would get me a grand, so i’m going with it.

  22. Gavinsdad Says:

    Rooting for the Pack.

I’m gonna pull a slight Willowed here. I attended the Gorge and had a blast. Not willing to confer the “best of” title to it’s Gin, RnR, or Sally……yet. At the time I felt that there was still a faint whale essence to those tunes. That tone really fucked with me, I have to admit it. Notes felt/sounded clipped….lacked that singing/ringing sustain I associate w Trey. ocedoc immediately won me over summer ’10 leg 2 obvs (tho I enjoyed lots of early summer ’10. But ’09 I had a chip on my shoulder because of the whale.

No time to listen today but this week I’m gonna respin the big daddies of 09 for sure. And I’m gonna avoid all the 09 tweezer chat cause I liked 4 of them alot.

  23. Jtran Says:

    Morning BB

Wet, Pac NW style snow here in VT today. Totally out of the ordinary for these parts.

Doing some laundry and packing (heading to UT Tuesday for a week), blasting IT Waves, followed by Manchester Light, followed by an 09 highlight TBD.

Doing a numbers pool/table (I don’t know the real name) with my office for the first time. Got 7 and 0 as one pick, and 7 and 6 as another. Hoping those treat me well.

  24. kenny powers Says:

    @ KWL

  25. Jtran Says:

If anyone has any good Albany dinner recommendations that are nice but not too $$$ ($$ is fine) let me know. I’ll be away from the slf on V-Day so we’re doing the TAB weekend in Albany as a make up.
