  1. Mulitbeast Says:

@ Silly – I seem to recall some one on the board suggest the Radiohead tune “National Anthem” as a possible great tune for Phish to cover. Alas, Umph McGee beat them to it….

  2. Lycanthropist Says:

    oh thats a shame @multi

National Anthem would be very much suited for a Phish freak out..

Chance Fisher used to play it a good bit and it is such a fun damn song to play.

  3. Lycanthropist Says:

    National Anthem = Insta-energy

  4. albert walker Says:

you take a half a decade of your life nodding out to vinyl SW and you too can develop some half ass knowledge too

I don’t know shit compared to these other kids. they read books. study the history research this shit. I just spin the fuckin record.

  5. SillyWilly Says:

I mean, hanging out with AW, Cal, and Lastwaltzer is shameful for me

those kids can run circles around me about music

i just try and soak in a third of the stuff they talk about

at the tortoise show when they got going, i was in over my head.

  6. albert walker Says:

Lycan. we may disagree on a lot musically but we dig 2 out of 3 of the same new album Radiohead tracks

I’ve only spun it once and heard it once when vinyl digging though

  7. BingosBrother Says:

“I tend to really enjoy lyrics that tell a story as opposed to some nonsense.”

Word. Just bought the new Bright Eyes record. We’ll see.

But as far as Phish lyrics go, they’re very unique in that a lot of the songs have the feel of the lyrics. i.e. Its Ice, maze, LXL, rift, Theme, 1/2way to the moon, Foam, SOAM, etc.

  8. cal Says:

SW–You’ll have to let me know what you think. I have tried two Furthermore brews and didn’t really care for either one. (feel bad saying that what with “WIsolidarity” and all…)

Ever since Europe all I want to drink is the ancient Hefe Weisses. Weihenstephaner is my favorite brewery at the moment; can’t believe I never tried any of their beers before. Just cracked an Ayinger Weizen-Bock, first time I’ve tried this one.

  9. Mulitbeast Says:

@ Lyca – A damn shame. I streamed it and UM “got” the gist of the song but their attempt to replicate Thom’s vocals was brutal. But isn’t that the case with UM and vocals? Phish could rock the shit out of National Anthem.

  10. Mr. Palmer Says:

If there is a better dwd than 6.15.00, show me the way.

  11. Lycanthropist Says:

yeh they could really destroy the end of that song ala ADITL or Frankenstein, just sonic overloads

  12. SillyWilly Says:

    cal

    the Furthermore Three Feet Deep

    here’s the description:

“With a hint of peat smoked malt, this stout is a return to County Cork and the warmth of the Irish hearth.”

Could they not market to me in a better way?

  13. Mulitbeast Says:

I feel that the whimsical nature of phish lyrics are what makes them so special. I mean why do I find the lyrics of Harry Hood so uplifting? Possibly because of the music that goes with it? Or is it just yelling with thousands of phans that you can feel good. Nostalgia definately plays a part for me having grown up listening to the tunes with close friends.

  14. albert walker Says:

I mean do you find Dillinger CB 200 a lyrical record Palmer

Bruce Lee will make you run and flee just like a chimpanzee

kung fu fighting, cuz natty kick like lightning

doesn’t really need the kind of lyrical analysis I’m talking about.

but I do agree there is some heavy shit on a BUrning Spear album or that Culture two sevens clash. still can’t say I pay all that much attention to it though. they do have great hooks though. that is key.

  15. garretc Says:

Really? Nobody is going to ask what the hell @AW was doing at a Radiohead/REM show?

So much for hating white rock frontmen, eh? The facade comes down!

  16. Mr. Palmer Says:

” I got Cocaine, running around my brain”…. i see your point @ aw.. touche

  17. albert walker Says:

big game for the Hawks tonight. coach Q back on the bench after missing 4 games with a bleeding ulcer.

bouncing around on the bubble in the west. most of their division has been hot.

need to beat Nashville. fuckin hockey in Nashville. to take over them in the standings.

    need 2 points tonight.

  18. albert walker Says:

    Stipe is awesome.

  19. albert walker Says:

can’t even say that as a joke. other than the Rattle and Hum and Zoo TV tours that was def the worst show I have ever seen.

wish I could remember why I was there. never owned an REM record. knew the radio tunes.

new I”m a Creep or whatever that fucking song was

  20. garretc Says:

Haha, I read “Stipe is awesome” and spent a couple seconds trying to figure out what the reason would be for you not hating him before moving on to the next post…

I could think of no reasons

  21. Mr.Miner Says:

i love REM. Was WAY into em through Green, which is when I faded out. Though I dug Automatic for the People. But Document, Life’s Rich Pagent, Fables of the Reconstruction, Reckoning and Murmur are all bomb imo…

  22. cal Says:

You are NOT gonna get me on a stout kick, SW. Just what I need when I’m trying to get back in shape.

Okay, I’ll have to try that one, though. Just stay away from the Fatty Boomblatty, that shit is nasty.

  23. albert walker Says:

I take that back. worst shows.

    Ive seen SCI and Moe

  24. Mr.Miner Says:

    6.15.00 is a dark-horse banger…there are just so many though…

  25. Mr. Palmer Says:

Older REM was pretty good stuff.
