READER REVIEWS:
3.5.2011 TAB @ The Fox, Oakland, CA: Butter
…The night seemed to begin at “Heavy Things”; as simultaneously – the rest of TAB took the stage – and people began to care about what was going on, onstage. Liquid Time is a showcase tune in this setting and the horns help color the musical pallete. Trey currently has the young Natalie “Chainsaw” Cressman on trombone, TAB staple; Jennifer Hartswick on trumpet, and Russell Remmington on saxophone and flute. While this is not “The Tower of Power” horns section, they help develop the sound of this band, playing mostly charted out lines…Read On Here!

3.1.2011 TAB @ The Ogden, Denver, CO: Mike San Clements
…Trey came out around 8:30, did his classic nod and wave, picked up his guitar and quickly launched into Farmhouse. I’d read a lot of complaints about people being loud during the acoustic sets, but the crowd at the Ogden hushed immediately and stayed quiet and sang through all the right parts. It was actually quite impressive, particularly during Theme and Backwards Down the Number Line where they instinctively filled in for the missing band members. Trey enjoyed it too, and it felt like a true collaboration between performer and audience…Read On Here!

Morning BB.
Nice little score in the lottery – 3rd row 200 level at Darien, which will probably be my only 1st leg stop.
#Winning
Hope everybody gets similar good news!
Really digging Scott M.’s playing on this ‘Andelmans Yard’. Dude is the perfect fit for MGB imo.
Nice TAB reviews @Butter & Mike
anybody want to update the exchange board? I jumped in there today with the thought of updating it. I quickly realized I was in waaaaay over my head.
There are charts and graphs and shit. I was just going to change the dates on the bottom tabs to reflect summer tour. I realized there was much more to it than that.
Charts and graphs at 6:00 a.m. Pass the hippie speed ball.
On a side note. Furthur tonight at the Oakdale.
Very excited. Pay my respect to the forefathers.
@ willowed
you working a full day today?
@willowed
I’m psyched for you for tonight. have yourself a blast. wish I was going with you
cash or kind for your h3tty kevlar vests
good morning people of the BB! Snow is finally gone, owls are hooting, and spring training is underwat.
Wish I could swing Phil tonight at the Oakdale. Knowing my tendencies I will probably find my way there. Who’s got my ticket?
And even though Mike gets some heat for his “B” grade lineup at least he keeps the setlists fresh for those on Mike tour. Who goes on Mike tour though?
what is the purpose of having charts and graphs on a ticket exchange board? either way is there a link here on Miner’s page? If not, could some one provide it? I may find it useful after this weekend.
willowed – I’ll be looking for a report from you on your Furthur experience. I still have a lil more than 3 weeks before I hit it up and am kinda amp’d for it. So I guess if it’s bad lie to me.
Nice score Foul! And Murawski is VERY underrated!
Murawski would get more credit if he didn’t play a Doc
what up kiddos?
4/4 on the lottery yesterday, two pavs & two lawns – both for Alpharetta
Works for me! How’d everyone else do? Seems like the general off-board consensus was the lottery has been a success.
Free Mike SBD from Minneapolis last fall at LivePhish. A nice kick down for those who care.
thanks for posting som MGB, miner. I know it’s not your favorite but it is a nice diversion. bar band, maybe. but I like his arrangements. he has a unique mind and it i dig the quirkiness. and I also realize it isn’t everyone’s bag.
Murawski would get more credit if he didn’t play a Doc
I’d say that most people don’t even know that he plays one (besides we overly informed people). it’s not like its some magical guitar that only Trey plays. I know a few people who rock the doc. the player makes the music not the instrument, right? 😉
“Murawski would get more credit if he didn’t play a Doc”…
Agreement with both Dude and Type III…people that go see MGB are more than likely people that go because he’s from Phish (and there are most definitely alot of dumb bastards, ie Green Board) and therefore spot MGB guitar player using the ‘doc and assume he’s trying to be Trey and give him static for it.
However, us intelligent phans know “the player makes the music not the instrument”
Nice write up Butter and Mike.
Butter: “Jumping all over the dance vibe, like wooks to free booze” – well penned buddy.
Willowed: enjoy furthur brother – I listened back a few times to the Friday show I hit and it holds up nicely. Yeah, it’s not Jerry, but its no nostalgia act. I had a great time and I bet you will too.
@ T3
Yes you are right. the musician plays the instrument. But unfortunately for Murawski, 90% of the people who see MGB are Phish fans… He also owns and used to play a Doug Irwin too if you remember the ’02 MGB tour
Word Bhizzle. I dig Murawski – dude has been in the game since the 60’s. Seasoned vet with some decent chops. At least he can nail the licks in Sugar Shack – more than I can say for our beloved Bad Leiutenant.
I caught the after Providence Max Creek show. It was pretty solid (from what i can remember of it, which was quite limited…)
Murawski is definitely a fan of fine crafted guitars… I wish he would find another luthier and play that builders guitar and be more of his “own”
I saw the end of that max creek show too @Nono. Murdawg has been a staple in the northeast for genarations, got to give him some credit.
@el dude
I understand what you are saying and I’m really not trying to argue with you here but I think you are giving the “90%” more credit than they deserve. I just fail to believe that all of those people recognize the similarity in the guitars enough to have it influence their enjoyment (or lack thereof) of his playing
Now I’m seriously thinking of heading up to the Oakdale ticketless. Whenever Phil comes around I always wonder if this is the last chance to soak in the man who was at the fore front of it all. Plus, grooving to Dead tunes is always a good night, beats a solo acoustic set.
Really happy for everyone who has gotten tickets through the lotto. Is the consensus that this means there is less demand, or that the tiered system of lawn/pavs has simplified the process somehow?
With a 5-day old, I’m sitting out the lotto and on-sale. I figure I’ll throw myself on the mercy of the BB if/when I try to steal away for one of the Homdel shows…
I’m not trying to argue/fight either…
But I do think you’re mistaken about the “guitar”… It’s a powerful symbol for all musicians and their fans when watching them play.
“but I think you are giving the “90%” more credit than they deserve”-T3
You’re probably right there… after all we’re talking about Phish fans. ie: half had never heard WFC before 10/31
My PTBM confirmation was sent at 3:30 yesterday and I got it at 7:30 this morning. Nice work yahoo. I did get a pav for 1 Alpharetta show and Raleigh.
