3.5.2011 TAB @ The Fox, Oakland, CA: Butter

2.25.11 (M.Stein)

…The night seemed to begin at “Heavy Things”;  as simultaneously – the rest of TAB took the stage –  and people began to care about what was going on, onstage. Liquid Time is a showcase tune in this setting and the  horns help color the musical pallete. Trey currently has the young Natalie “Chainsaw” Cressman on trombone, TAB staple; Jennifer Hartswick on trumpet, and Russell Remmington on saxophone and flute. While this is not “The Tower of Power” horns section, they help develop the sound of this band, playing mostly charted out lines…Read On Here!

3.1.2011 TAB @ The Ogden, Denver, CO: Mike San Clements

2.25.11 (M.Stein)

…Trey came out around 8:30, did his classic nod and wave, picked up his guitar and quickly launched into Farmhouse. I’d read a lot of complaints about people being loud during the acoustic sets, but the crowd at the Ogden hushed immediately and stayed quiet and sang through all the right parts. It was actually quite impressive, particularly during Theme and Backwards Down the Number Line where they instinctively filled in for the missing band members.  Trey enjoyed it too, and it felt like a true collaboration between performer and audience…Read On Here!

So I feel like this will result in me getting shit, but you know what album is really good?

The Raw And The Cooked by Fine Young Cannibals.

Yes, it sounds very ’80’s, and if you just can’t listen to anything with that’s obviously from the ’80’s then it’s not for you, but that’s ok because you’re being close minded anyways. But if you can deal with a few cheesy synth textures, this album has a lot going on. Lots of diverse influences thrown together into a really solid pop album. And I stand by that sentiment, so take your best shots!

    TAB – LA

    no idea re: quality.

  3. Type III Jamming Personality Disorder Says:

if you can find it, check into The Raw and The Remix

nothing earth shattering, but some interesting remixes of the album you mentioned.

  4. Mr. Palmer Says:

    she drives me crazy…..and i can’t help myself….

  5. Robear Says:

kick down before you get down 😛

If you think about it, Mike is kind of a genre unto himself.

What I mean is that, for instance, Weigh, Contact, and Round Room are all VERY clearly Mike songs (at least IMO). But that’s really the only common thread there. Just an overwhelming sense of Mike-ness.

miner: the colorado tapes are iffy. I like the 3 mic mix pull from 3.4.2011.

spinning set II now (skipping devil went down-ugh) . sounds great. went for the whole set after being impressed by it makes no difference and sand. have not listened to set I.

  8. voopa Says:

garretc- Along those lines, I recently revisited Scritti Politti’s Cupid and Psyche 85. Slick stuff.

  9. kayatosh Says:

    I concur w/ miner’s MGB assessment.

  10. Mike in Austin Says:

My buddy has like 8 pavs for Pine Knob. Shut out for Bethel. I think he’s looking for trades + cash if anyone is interested. I’m looking for nTelos and will reward for tickets. I’ll be in on tour from GA to VA. And all of West Coast.

Loved reading today’s BB, interesting stuff, but wish I would have been around for it earlier when it was more timely to comment. See, this is why I’m MiA.

I’m not sure I’d make a good Fed Gov Robear. My natural inclination would be to disband my own group and end fiat currency and push for a Government that truly believed and acted towards fiscal solvency.

I don’t get why we just can’t be a solvent country. Wait. Yes I do. Politicians don’t get as much power when they’re responsible with money.

“Giving Money and Power to Politicians is like Giving Whiskey and Car Keys to teenage boys. Nothing good will come of it.” – P J O’Rourke.

Where are his Pine Knob Pavilions. I need four together if possible.

  12. garretc Says:

Can’t say I know ’em, but it sounds like it’s worth checking out?

  13. Kaveh Says:

@MikeinAustin: send me an email: kjrahimi at yahoo dot com. (I might get it today.)

  14. angryjoggerz Says:

Where is the BB staying after Pine Knob. Lets organize, get a good spot on the road to Blossom, party, get up and caravan to BTB.

  15. DukeOfLizards Says:

So on a scale of “The Final Countdown” to “Billie Jean,” what are we talking in terms of synth cheese?

  16. SillyWilly Says:

Lawyer talking to us today. Graduated from ND in 94 I think. He’s a juvenile defender.

    Ben Gonring…

Wouldn’t happen to know him would you?

  17. Robear Says:

    hey folks:

open this link. little impromptu jam coming from members of Greensky, in about 15 minutes. live from ocean view apartment in mckinleyville

  18. Mike in Austin Says:

Just left of the sound board. I think they’re all in pairs though.

  19. garretc Says:

We’re leaning a little more toward the Billy Jean side of things I’d say. The biggest synth thing you’re dealing with is the big echo-y snare hit, and there’s a few key things here and there, but the album just has a very ’80’s feel to it in general.

  20. Robear Says:

I’m not sure I’d make a good Fed Gov Robear. My natural inclination would be to disband my own group and end fiat currency and push for a Government that truly believed and acted towards fiscal solvency.

^ ahhhh, Mike, that’s exactly why you would be appointed !!!! bravo.

you can all crash at my parents place after Pine Knob show.

  21. Mike in Austin Says:

    Kaveh … will do.

  22. angryjoggerz Says:

Word, Robear. Will you be there? Please say yes.

  23. Chuck sweD Says:

rob, what time greensky going live? :45 past?

  24. garretc Says:

Hell, I’ll just throw it on the mediafire real quick here…

  25. Type III Jamming Personality Disorder Says:

can’t say I do. but he would have been in my sister’s year, not mine. I’m a 96er.
