3.5.2011 TAB @ The Fox, Oakland, CA: Butter

2.25.11 (M.Stein)

…The night seemed to begin at “Heavy Things”;  as simultaneously – the rest of TAB took the stage –  and people began to care about what was going on, onstage. Liquid Time is a showcase tune in this setting and the  horns help color the musical pallete. Trey currently has the young Natalie “Chainsaw” Cressman on trombone, TAB staple; Jennifer Hartswick on trumpet, and Russell Remmington on saxophone and flute. While this is not “The Tower of Power” horns section, they help develop the sound of this band, playing mostly charted out lines…Read On Here!

3.1.2011 TAB @ The Ogden, Denver, CO: Mike San Clements

2.25.11 (M.Stein)

…Trey came out around 8:30, did his classic nod and wave, picked up his guitar and quickly launched into Farmhouse. I’d read a lot of complaints about people being loud during the acoustic sets, but the crowd at the Ogden hushed immediately and stayed quiet and sang through all the right parts. It was actually quite impressive, particularly during Theme and Backwards Down the Number Line where they instinctively filled in for the missing band members.  Trey enjoyed it too, and it felt like a true collaboration between performer and audience…Read On Here!

Hey ya’ll! Listened to that 7.31.97 YEM this morning… what an inspired version!

Saving the second set for later… can’t wait to hear the Jim!

    Big fan of experimental Jims…

  2. AintNoTele Says:

That’s too cool GD, have a good time. I would imagine it would be a shitshow and a ton of fun. Where is this going down?

  3. gavinsdad Says:

right on @aintno….i rode cards board too in 93….the one that gonz did the graphics for…one of my fave boards. i’m riding a toy machine team deck now cause they make em 8.5 for old bums like me. ricky oyola lives in my town and we hang out like dads and burn and i’d rep Traffic hard but he only makes an 8.0 wide.

cards is a phenomenal person to have done so much after having his back broken and has one of the sickest JA 7″ collections too. if you haven’t checked out his episodes of epicly laterd you must!!

  4. gavinsdad Says:

@aint no – in austin next week for South by Southwest. my company is doing 4 days of music and there is all sorts of stuff happening all over…it’s a zoo.

  5. Type III Jamming Personality Disorder Says:

man, that’s too funny. a friend of mine from dead tour days used to tote around a tv/vcr combo thingy with a bunch of tapes for hotel post show time (this was before hotels had good channel options when touring the motels and crappy hotels near venues). we used to throw fantasia on with some big space or darkstar and other jamz going as the soundtrack for comedowns. I honestly have never done that with the phish though.

I used to have the crappiest AUD of Oswego and listened to that Have Mercy with the rain dropping on the mics a 1,000 times.

Or at least that’s how I remember it after my life was a haze….

  12. Admiral Ackbar Says:

    Quadfecta!

    Or is it?

  13. plord Says:

@Lycan, for phasers I love the new Moog pedal but it’s kinds big and not that cheap; it’s cheaper than a used Maestro Stage Phaser, though, which is my other top shelf rec (and also a Moog design). The old script-font Phase 90 sounds great but doesn’t have enough adjustments; you can build the BYOC clone pedal if you have soldering skills, it’s a clone and has extra knobs. I never liked a Small Stone on Rhodes; not sure why. Those are the only 4 I’ve heard and can compare.

Tremolos, er, I think the standard way is the trem circuit in the Fender amp attached to the Fender Rhodes, but you don’t have that. Not sure what to suggest; BYOC has a trem that I built, it has a nice depth control and can get up to a medium tempo chop.

The BYOC stuff is cheap if you have the DIY skillz. I’ve built a dozen and they all worked first try except the !@#%~! analog delay.

  14. Lycanthropist Says:

    llfa @ plord

well i am definitely looking into DIY stuff, which is a part of why I wanted the rhodes.

it will be nice to have an instrument i can really get inside
