that gin is in need of a remaster

  2. Mr. Palmer Says:

Utica! Revisited that yesterday. That’s a phish show. I do love me sOne 1/1/11 though.

  3. poop goblin Says:

Utica is a much better 2 set show

Other than the have mercy Im not sure why that set gets hyped so much

I prefer Manchester or 31 and the first for set 2s

  4. albert walker Says:

being that I’m the only kid that was somewhat underwhelmed by Utica’s seconds set I think I’m gonna give it a spin on my run here

haven’t played it since the week of the show I imagine

    laterz ya’ll

  5. SillyWilly Says:

    mother fucker

the republicans sneak attacked the collective bargaining rights cancellation through just now

split the bill in half and pushed through the non-fiscal part

    god damn it.

  6. willowed Says:

Watching a show about MDMA on Nat Geo

Very interesting. I wish summer tour was here.

  7. willowed Says:

    I’m with you AW
I didn’t understand all the hub bub about it either.
    Set 2 that is

  8. Mr. Palmer Says:

The Drowned, Sand is good , not great in Utica.

However the Birds Split> Have Mercy> Piper> Split is nasty. with a nice slave to cap it off. $$$ to these ears.

But, we are probably splitting hairs anyway. Go spin that shit again Willowed!

  9. willowed Says:

The only thing that interested me in that Split sandwich was the jam in Have Mercy

    That’s it IMO

  10. bouncin fan Says:

still waiting for the definitive 3.0 Split which sucks

Red Rocks and Creek were nice at the time. mostly cuz of the storms that accompanied them though. little too much whale in the splits that summer maybe.

I dug the Brim Split that when to the major key for a while but not really the heavy psychedelia we are looking for with the song

Cinci is prob my fav. crazy little full band dissonant jam. another not typical split but still not exactly what I’m looking for

bumming no split in MSG. Walls?

segues of Utica is nice and this band has had trouble with them lately but as individual jams they aren’t my fav versions

    hot set though

  11. bouncin fan Says:

Have Mercy is some of the best Phish since they’ve been back though. love that surprise little organic jam

  12. sumodie Says:

@kwl: I found a different 6.10.00 torrent for the same source:

plus it’ll go to 100%…seeding this one now

  13. willowed Says:

I agree AW. I feel we get all excited when they drop a split. Our brains in 3.0 convince us that they are better than they really are.

No monumental ones in 3.0 IMO

An average Split is better than any blue grass wankery (love that word by the way) or any other slow Velvet Sea jam that they showcase

  14. garretc Says:

Yeah, I thought for sure we were getting Split to open 1/1/11 set II, and I can’t complain about getting Crosseyed instead, but still, that may have been the most certain I’ve ever been about something and been wrong…

  15. Tzara's Ghost Says:

Love the Low Anthem’s Charlie Darwin album, will have to check out the new one

For me, Tupac>Biggie. All Eyez on Me, disc one anyway, is poetry, high and low.

Being a west coaster, 3.0 is all about gorge Sally/gin->hood and Greek simple and especially light. 1/1/11 was awesome on simulcast though.

  16. Mr. Palmer Says:

Yeah, I thought the Split was a given on 1/1. The Jibbo, Reba, Walls was sick though. I know not a lot of people like Walls, but once you get past the lyric part, its pretty shreddy.

  17. Mr. Palmer Says:

^ people don’t like Walls (should read)

  18. Mr. Palmer Says:

Anyone Drive by Truckers fans? Heard good things about their live shows. The little bit of exposure i’ve had to them leaves me in the fence. Theya re playing a local venue in June. Tix go on sale friday. Thinking about checking them out. Feedback?

  19. garretc Says:

    @Mr. P

Never seen ’em live, though I hear the same good things. As long as you can get past vocals that sound decidedly country you’ll probably dig it. I have an album of theirs, can’t recall which one just now, which I think is pretty cool. Guitar heavy southern rock with some really good storytelling lyrics.

But again, if you can’t get past the twang, you’ll probably hate it.

  20. sumodie Says:

I really dug the 1.1.11 Walls

while I would have loved hearing a Split in NYC, at shows I try not to think about what songs I’d like to hear/not hear (doesn’t always work). Mostly I just wish for ‘EPIC’ anything, Bouncing included

  21. Mr. Palmer Says:

garet- the vocals don’t bother me at all. I think i’m going to check them out.

Decoration Day is the album i have. They have some powerful songs, like you mentioned. Good story telling, no doubt. Plus the bass player is a chick who swigs from a bottle of JD on stage. Thats awesome!

  22. garretc Says:

    @Mr. P

Just checked, I’ve been spinning The Dirty South. However, it’s been a while, so I think I’ll have to go back and give it another spin after I finish this Dead show (5/8/81, sick Shakedown and Playing, unexceptional Terrapin, but even unexceptional Terrapins are the business!)

  23. Leo Weaver Says:

I’ve only listened back once since the show, but as I recall the Deer Creek Split was pretty damn hot, then a really nice >Dog Faced Boy. With it going unfinished, I thought we might get a split Split (we’d recently discussed the split split topic here on the ol’ BB). Thought the >Split could’ve come at any time during the encore…would’ve fit perfectly in the >NO2>Kung> segment. Damn. I need to listen to that second set again. First set blew…bad.

  24. Lycanthropist Says:

I don’t think that DC Split > Dog is all that great.. i mean there are some cool parts, but in reality it seems like they just really lost the groove, and covered up with a puppy dog face.

Cinci is definitely still my fav, and the Fest 8 one has some real weird moments too.

But as Poop Fan Goblin said, still no real definitive Split for 3.0.

Somebody needs to piss Trey off to get a good one of those again.

  25. garretc Says:

So we need to start throwing more glowsticks on stage then?
