A mere fortnight after Trey played two nights at the same Denver theatre, Mike’s band hit the Ogden with impressive guests in tow. Joining Gordon’s band onstage were New Orleans legends Ivan and Ian Neville, former 70 Volt Parade bassist, Tony Hall, and drummer, Raymond Weber—current members of the New Orleans’ outfit, Dumsptafunk. Together, the ensemble played three songs to close out the first set, including Prince’s “Alphabet Street,” and then two more for the encore, including “Things That Make You Go Hmm….” In addition, Mike’s band packed in plenty of jamming on its own in a show that looks to be one of the most interesting of tour. Check out some audio clips below, or download the show with one of three links above.

I: Andelmans’ Yard, Balloon, Black Tambourine, Willow Tree, Fire From a Stick, Ain’t Love Funny > Kryermaten > Ain’t Love Funny, Jaded*, Alphabet Street*, Down To the Nightclub*

I’ve got them going out in the sweet 16 in one bracket, and out in the elite 8 in the other.

  2. Kaveh Says:

I’m thinking first round upset even..5 games in 5 days…that is a lot.

  3. Mr. Palmer Says:

they have had 5 days off though in between. I’m a big east fluffer though. I have most of them doing well. I have Pitt playing St. John’s in the SE regional. 🙂

  4. Kaveh Says:

St John’s and Pitt…you are a Big East fluffer indeed. 🙂

  5. Jtran Says:

The one downside to our tournament bracket is that I don’t know everyone’s real names.

  8. Mr. Palmer Says:

St. John’s can beat anyone in the country. They can also lose to anyone too. Hoping they get hot. long suffering fan and season tix holder for 15 years. Actually gave up the tix 2 years ago because i was so frustrated.

  11. garretc Says:

    @Jtran

I was just thinking the same thing!

Mainly because I was trying to figure out what “Jtran’s” real name could be, so I could ensure I was stomping his bracket!

  12. voopa Says:

    Oh, there it is

  13. voopa Says:

  15. Tzara's Ghost Says:

damn, @garret– I poke a little fun at your “smooth” music, and you throw down the free jazz. Nice overcorrection 🙂 Those are two of the first free jazz albums I ever got into. Love me some Cecil. I’ve seen him play twice, pretty strange cat.

  16. Kaveh Says:

Good game going on right now. Second half under way.

  17. Mr. Palmer Says:

    BYU goes down tomorrow.

  18. SillyWilly Says:

Just hanging out about to go to bed and my roommate texts me:

Mind if I have some people over?

Of course, I don’t care, but who parties the night before St. Patrick’s day??

time to hydrate and get your mind right.

    Jameson can sometimes…

    well, you know

  21. Tzara's Ghost Says:

Reading back, looks like I need to check out some Shoreline ’97 for starters. 7/13/99 was kind of piquing my interest too.

  22. garretc Says:

    @Tzara’s

I was worried I might seem like I was overcorrecting and you’d call me out on it! Damn!

But yeah, the first time through Enter, Evening I was a bit overwhelmed, but by the end of that and on subsequent listenings it’s definitely opened up for me a bit… There may not be a song structure, but it sure as hell is a cohesive piece of music!

  23. ThePigSong Says:

stuck with the slowest internet in Louisiana tonight, what’s the deadline for the BBBracket?

  24. SillyWilly Says:

    good night, kids.

    have fun out there tomorrow.

may your brackets be clean, and your work day swift.

remember thursdays start best when they start with selector j.

  25. Tzara's Ghost Says:

That Cecil group stuff is seriously intense. It’s hard for me to listen to often. Nefertiti, a trio date from ’62 is a little more listenable, bordering on melody. His solo dates are awesome, though. Silent Tongues is a favorite.
