TTFF: The Comeback Year

10.30.09 (G. Lucas)

****

Tweezer > Light” 12.5 II

On of the most impressive jam sequences of Fall ’09 with one of the darkest and most abstract “Lights” the band had dropped to that point.

Wolfman’s > Piper > Joy” 10.30 II

10.30.09 (W.Rogell)

A dark-horse segement of 10.30.09 that may includes the most creative jamming of Indio.

Rock and Roll” 8.8 II

While the first night of The Gorge proved most magical, this jam from night two is, arguably, the most impressive of both.

Back On the Train” 12.30 II

12.29.09 (W.Rogell)

Amidst a song-driven show, Phish blew out an unsustpecting, mid-second set “Back On the Train,” and crafted one of the jams of the year in the process.

46 Days” 11.18 I

The dirtiest funk jam of Fall tour came in the first set of all.

***

Stash” 7.30 I

Red Rocks (G.Lucas)

This “Stash” from Red Rocks opening frame set the stage for a transformative weekend in Colorado.

Disease > Twenty Years Later” 11.24 II

One of the year’s most creative jaunts sprouted from this mid-set “Disease” in Philly’s first show.

Split Open and Melt” 11.21 II

This first-set “Split” in Cincy upped the bar for the song in the 3.0 era.

  4. aaron Says:

    what does TTFF stand for?

  5. halcyon Says:

Working the night away …. should have left 4 hours ago probably will stay until 6am at which I will have worked 17 hours in a row…. Winter Storm has me locked in the office and to think it was 65 degrees yesterday. Springtime in the rockies!

I have most of these shows on my ipod so TTFF and my ipod to the rescue .. keepin me awake!

  6. ThePigSong Says:

mornin’ kids – might actually get to jam these ttff later on after work! Have a good one!

  7. st8 of mind Says:

Yes! TTFF. Thanks Miner! Have a good day all.

  8. Type III Jamming Personality Disorder Says:

oh, I like this TTFF. always makes it better when you were in attendance for a few of the shows that make the cut. just ask willowed.

that RnR was a game changer. Wasn’t there but heard it the next day and simply knew that it was a transcendent piece of music. love the FOTM type jamming in there.

but really, these are all great choices.

keep your ears open for the staccato picking in that tweezer!

    ::pulls up chair::
    ::grabs popcorn
::waits for dancing fool to comment on the lack of Gorge Gin::

and this image is fantastic. schadenfreude’s a bitch, ain’t it, pitino?

  9. thedayman Says:

its crazy looking at this list, remembering a lot of these great jams, and also looking at it and thinking about others from 09 that arent here. 09 was a pretty solid year in retrospect. ’11 will be great, no doubt. happy friday to all.

  10. ThePigSong Says:

Has Mike been going on right at showtime? Two sets? How late? I’ve got an engagement Saturday night until 9:30, but still want to hit this. Especially since I can walk to the venue.

  11. Spasm Waiter Says:

Morning Folks. How was the webcast last night?
Tinge of a hangover today for SPAZ.
Gonna be beautiful today in the East. Have a great one.

Miner- Thanks for the jamz, as always.

  12. nonoyolker Says:

Need to spin that Indio section today. After hitting the weekend and having a good time, the only music i ever (infrequently) go back to is the Stones costume and the acoustic set. Nothing from the weekend really stuck out improv-wise, except for the free form blurble light show. Looking forward to listening back

Day one over and my brackets are hurting. Great day of hoop though – some nice finishes. This is what smarch is all about

  13. Type III Jamming Personality Disorder Says:

    @spaz
right there with you on the hurt head…

    Spring is finally springing.
    spring, Spring, spring!
    soon Spring will be sprung.

    @nono
IJWTSHF jam will take you right back. shit is transportive.

  14. Mike in Austin Says:

I thought the Suzy and Loving Cup at Indio were quite good, as well as the Undermind.

I am also a fan of “Solid” as much as I am a fan of Magical.

A good mix of tunes today. Thanks!

  15. Gavinsdad Says:

Wow….I’m slightly slow myself…hit up the Salt Lick BBQ outside of Austin last nite with a crew. Sipped some PBR, some Black Bush, some Guinness and some Bulliet Bourbon. In moderation and advil before bed but still a little logey.

11/24/09 was the shit I concur! Also concur that it was nice to have hit some of the shows in 09 that had some heat.

Saw a couple indie bands yesterday that had merit: Braids and Sun Airway. Tonite is more for me….Oddfuture, Green & Wood and Pentagram. Stoked.

  16. Mike in Austin Says:

Obama is 14-2? I get the Louisville miss and Mi State, and good call on Gozanga Mr. President.

  17. Mike in Austin Says:

Hey gdad. How was the salt lick?

  18. bhizzle Says:

Good Not-to-be-hungover morning to you all alkys!

Vandy, Louisville & St. John’s fuct me!

Re: MGB last night…meh and it sad because I was really geeting into all those streams Miner was feeding us too. tsk, tsk

  19. Spasm Waiter Says:

Bhizzle- was it a real slick operation w good sound and vid ala tab last year?
special guests? Just curious. I also liked some of the MGB streams. Mound made me feel weird.

  20. Spasm Waiter Says:

    My hangover needs saltlick.

  21. willowed Says:

I am in rough shape. 😕

I was hoping for the 2001>Slave from Jones Beach.

    I liked that

    Great picks Miner!

  22. Spasm Waiter Says:

May have to bust out the golf sticks today.

  23. nonoyolker Says:

I forgot how that Wolfie’s gets into a nice ambient wall of sound at the end, pretty solid. Piper has some spirited playing and the ‘See his face’ jam is spot on. Nice to be impressed on playback

Suzy from Indio is the shit for sure. Best Type I version i know of. Horns killed it. Going to spin the Undermind again, along with some other joints to see how it holds up.

Sluggish at best today. The bean was a shit show last night, between the holiday and the tourney. ::Office door closed, commence hiding for the day::

  24. Jtran Says:

    Morning BB

    TTFF, streaming march madness, weekend

  25. Type III Jamming Personality Disorder Says:

    somebody wake up akbar
