TTFF: The Comeback Year

10.30.09 (G. Lucas)

****

Tweezer > Light” 12.5 II

On of the most impressive jam sequences of Fall ’09 with one of the darkest and most abstract “Lights” the band had dropped to that point.

Wolfman’s > Piper > Joy” 10.30 II

10.30.09 (W.Rogell)

A dark-horse segement of 10.30.09 that may includes the most creative jamming of Indio.

Rock and Roll” 8.8 II

While the first night of The Gorge proved most magical, this jam from night two is, arguably, the most impressive of both.

Back On the Train” 12.30 II

12.29.09 (W.Rogell)

Amidst a song-driven show, Phish blew out an unsustpecting, mid-second set “Back On the Train,” and crafted one of the jams of the year in the process.

46 Days” 11.18 I

The dirtiest funk jam of Fall tour came in the first set of all.

Stash” 7.30 I

Red Rocks (G.Lucas)

This “Stash” from Red Rocks opening frame set the stage for a transformative weekend in Colorado.

Disease > Twenty Years Later” 11.24 II

One of the year’s most creative jaunts sprouted from this mid-set “Disease” in Philly’s first show.

Split Open and Melt” 11.21 II

This first-set “Split” in Cincy upped the bar for the song in the 3.0 era.

Salt Lick was a winner @MiA. I’d been twice previously (96 and 97) and it was good to see things hadn’t changed. Extremely kind waiter. Extremely kind half spliff we hit before going in. We all did family style and the breakdown is as follows: brisket>ribs>sausage. Then the blackberry cobbler laid the haymaker.

  2. KfL Says:

    morning folks

    thanks for the tunes miner.

a couple other jams from 09 worth a listen:

    camden fee (and sand)
    mpp 46 days>oh! sweet nuthin

  3. Jtran Says:

Good call on that 46 Days KfL. Made that long drive, and then back up to SPAC worth it.

Those first chords to Light get me going everytime. Office dancing over here.

  4. Mr. Palmer Says:

SPAC Numberline was another good one from ’09. Songs first trip into the deep end.

  5. thedayman Says:

during the above split, one of my buddies had to take a seat cuz he was so spun, and the split was fucking with him pretty hard. he was literally splitting open and melting at the same time, pretty funny stuff in retrospect

  6. Mike in Austin Says:

Split has taken down many a soldier.

  7. Luther T. Justice Says:

^That Cinci Split almost made me topple over.

  8. KfL Says:

  9. KfL Says:

    msg disease>piper

  10. KfL Says:

    and last but not least

    knoxville waves>ocean>bowie

listening to all these really brings back memories of that percussive jam>ambient fadeout featured so heavily in 09

also made me realize i have caught the 2 worst tweezers of 3.0 (maybe ever) 😐

    later peeps

    MSG Disease>Piper…another nice call kwl!

  14. Kaveh Says:

    Good morning everyone.

@Gdad: Isn’t the sausage at the Salt Like crazy good? We loved it when we were there for ACL. And the brisket is dynamite.

  15. Leo Weaver Says:

” brisket>ribs>sausage. Then the blackberry cobbler laid the haymaker.”

Peach/blackberry cobblers or banana pudding do it every. damn. time.

I also agree that that Wolfman’s > Piper was top shelf 09

just kinda got pushed back cuz of all the festival related expectations and the other Phish sets that weekend were fairly uneventful

great little piece of Phish there
