i always think the dudes in the just for men gel: touch of grey commercials should be rocking tie-dyes

  4. EL Duderino Says:

“crazy how you can plainly see the “white powder” sprinkled on his shirt in multiple photos.”-KP

Yeah, probably ‘cuz Jer hasn’t taken a shower or changed his clothes in a week.

On the topic of hair-care products for men:

There’s a commercial for Rogaine foam that keeps playing when I watch the Daily Show online and the guy in it says something along the lines of “when I started using it I got a huge confidence boost, and there’s really no price I can put on that.” and then at the end of the commercial it tells you you can get rogaine for $10 off… So he may not be able to put a price on it, but they can, and, hell, they’ll take $10 off that nonexistent price!

    Just something I found funny…

  8. SillyWilly Says:

    that is funny, garretc

i love seeing blatantly contradictory logic in advertising

it’s like they don’t even try to fool us anymore

  9. Tzara's Ghost Says:

@silly, you’re back and seemingly in good spirits. Hopefully your PA trip went well.

  10. SillyWilly Says:

    The hearing is tomorrow.

i’ve just had all day to kick it in the hotel room.

I figure being in good spirits is the best way to be. After all, I’m not helping anything by being upset or anxious.

and I’m just happy to be on the road to have this settled. I’ve just been worn down worrying about it.

  11. SillyWilly Says:

and thanks for thinking of me, T-ghost.

  12. Selector J Says:

    you got mail @silly.

  13. Selector J Says:

thanks for everything you bring to this board and to our community.

a truly kind thing to do.

Sad thing is that they don’t HAVE to try to fool most of America anymore. Had a big discussion about spin this weekend with my sis, who’s been a marketing director and coordinator for several magazines. She has trouble pitching smart ad ideas to most companies. They continue to try to dumb down America.

  16. Selector J Says:

anytime @silly. what am I good for if not the latest in penis spike evolution?

  17. joe Says:

read an essay in the Chuck Klosterman book “Eating the Dinosaur” about the concept that advertisers don’t even try to fool us anymore.

  18. Admiral Ackbar Says:

    Dig the new avatar.

  19. BingosBrother Says:

Miracle Whip has the best new ads in a long time. Honesty. It can work.

  20. SillyWilly Says:

i’ve been going nerd-theory lately, but there’s a thinker named Jean Baudrillard who’s basic thesis is that our age (the post-modern one) is marked by the notion that nothing is real, everything is simply a symbol for something else.

Of course, he allows for simple realities like your thoughts and food and physical realities.

But, he says that we gave up caring if symbols referenced anything at all a long time ago.

His famous work is Simulacra and Simulation and it’s a total mind-fuck if you ever want to read something fun. He’s totally a cultural theorist, though. And his ideas help us to understand what’s happening in art and culture today.

One of his predictions that was eerily accurate was his idea that reality television would become dominant. He predicted this in 1981.

Just catching up, this is the Went Gin of BB pages. Good stuff.

Also, attention all NYers: Steve Kimock + Marco Benevento tomorrow night at Sullivan Hall. I’m not *definitely* going but will definitely try to make it. Just thought I’d let everyone know.

  22. phoammhead Says:

    el dude

yeah, not only his guitar, but his entire set up with speakers, etc. – produces a big, big sound.

  23. Leo Weaver Says:

Hmmm, sounds interesting S(erious)illy…may have to check that out. I’ve been on a real anti-marketing/advertising kick lately, much more so than normal.

  24. EL Duderino Says:

Johnny Winter was very, very instrumental in Muddy Waters’ resurgence in the mid to late ’70’s

    Star Wars Reprise:

Don’t miss Jambe Davdar’s channel on youtube. He has created a pretty incredible fan-doc on each of the 3 original films. It plays in real time, interspersing different shots/takes/audio, deleted scenes, storyboards, comments from interviews and behind the scenes footage throughout the story. It’s pretty cool. Star Wars Begins; Building Empire; Returning to Jedi. Check it out. Maybe this will work:
