TTFF: Ten From ’10

12.31.2010 (Ryan Gilbertie)

With only two weeks separating us from the kick-off of Phish’s massive Summer 2011, let’s take a moment to revisit some of last year’s finest moments, in no particular order. For anyone who thinks Phish doesn’t jam anymore, take a run through this playlist…enjoy….

2001 > David Bowie” 10.30 II

10.30.10 (D.Lavery)

The smoking conclusion—and finest segment—of a wild, pre-Halloween night.

Reba” 10.19 E

The divine creation that came out of nowhere in Augusta’s encore.

Ghost” 12.31 II

12.30.10 G.Lucas)

The Holy “Ghost.”

Seven Below -> What’s the Use?” 12.27 II

A delicate, introspective journey from Worcester’s snow-covered opening night.

Rock and Roll -> Carini” 10.22 II

10.23.10 (R. Gilbertie)

Providence’s exploratory set-opening combo; from an avant-garde “Rock and Roll” into a blissful “Carini.”

Light” 8.7. II

The band’s magnum opus from the Greek—one of the year’s improvisational peaks.

Harry Hood” 12.28 II

12.30.2010 (G.Lucas)

An impeccable, four-part musical conversation that, in my opinion, represents musical perfection.

Backwards Down the Number Line” 6.12 II

One of very few jams from June’s tour with staying power. Phish came together in an instant amidst a noodly jam and crafted a soundtrack for secret-agent.

Simple” 8.6 II

8.5.10 (W. Rogell)

One of the most engaging jams from, arguably, the most creative three-night stand of the year at the Greek.

Disease -> What’s the Use?” 8.14 II

Face melting rock and roll morphs into sublime territory, landing perfectly in “What’s the Use?.”

I’m actually spinning Chopin right now! Nocturnes 1-3, specifically. Also very good, but different than the Rachmaninov I’ve listened to, but those are piano concertos, so kinda an apples to oranges comparison at this point. But I love ’em both. I’ve loved every single song I’ve listened to from my “classical music starter set”, so to speak.

    I haven’t… Any good?

Highly recommended. Geoffrey Rush plays the savant.

    “I’d like to complain about the no-jam Piper > “Staccato-funk head-fake” no-jam Free.”garret

seconded, my only let down all night. I mean the first set could have been better but oh well.

That rock and roll was killer though, something lit a fire under trey’s ass and man did it burn.

  6. lastwaltzer Says:

and shine is pretty damn good garrett.

  7. jdub Says:

JB # Line>AC Stash>Holy Ghost. A progression that personifies one angle of the new sound.

  8. garretc Says:

    Damn, not on Netflix instant…

  9. lastwaltzer Says:

Watch Stagecoach instead. John Wayne at the top of his game, good stuff.

  10. phoammhead Says:

    the holy ghost delivers.

  11. lastwaltzer Says:

Christ is gonna be pissed, the holy ghost wasn’t supposed to roll out the delivery service until next year.

wait what……….why isn’t anyone laughing……..why am i recommending john wayne films instead of movies about nut jobs who play piano……………..oh yeah because its a dope film…………why am i talking to myself……….why

  12. jdub Says:

Goodwill Hunting. But being from the west coast John Wayne might suite you better.

  13. lastwaltzer Says:

Robin Williams is a bad ass.

  14. jdub Says:

The mayans called it first @LW.

A little tipsy tonight after a pleasant evening at a wine tasting. My brother provided the acoustical acroutrements. Hence the attendence.

  15. phoammhead Says:

    skipped ahead to after midnite

  16. phoammhead Says:

i’m in a rippin’ mood and trey can do that and i like it!

  17. lastwaltzer Says:

how much did you drink? Whats all this about mayans?

  18. lastwaltzer Says:

did some mayans order delivery? I’l lost

  19. jdub Says:

A corrected progression of one angle of the new sound. JB #Line>AC Stash>Woosta 7 Below>Holy Ghost. Love it.

Lemonwheel Ambient jam for my evening cooldown.

  20. jdub Says:

I thought you were referring to the 2012 apocolypse predicted by the mayans.

Quite a few glasses of wine and I am a rambling idiot.

Sox take first two from Yankees to make me a real happy drunk.

  21. phoammhead Says:

    yeah, now piper free . . . .

  22. lastwaltzer Says:

no worries, as I reread the comment i made i see where you made the connection…although I saw it i didn’t stare :ting:

currently listening to the MPP Piper, forgot how dope this was. I mean holy shit. Really love the note bending trey does early in the jam.

  23. phoammhead Says:

now slave and thank god . . . i love this tune! 😀

  24. lastwaltzer Says:

ghost from this one is pretty sweet as well. Trey drives that sucker. Like the way he keeps switching between the rhythm licks in between the driving lead stuff in most of the jam.
