TTFF: Ten From ’10

12.31.2010 (Ryan Gilbertie)

With only two weeks separating us from the kick-off of Phish’s massive Summer 2011, let’s take a moment to revisit some of last year’s finest moments, in no particular order. For anyone who thinks Phish doesn’t jam anymore, take a run through this playlist…enjoy….

2001 > David Bowie” 10.30 II

10.30.10 (D.Lavery)

The smoking conclusion—and finest segment—of a wild, pre-Halloween night.

Reba” 10.19 E

The divine creation that came out of nowhere in Augusta’s encore.

Ghost” 12.31 II

12.30.10 G.Lucas)

The Holy “Ghost.”

Seven Below -> What’s the Use?” 12.27 II

A delicate, introspective journey from Worcester’s snow-covered opening night.

Rock and Roll -> Carini” 10.22 II

10.23.10 (R. Gilbertie)

Providence’s exploratory set-opening combo; from an avant-garde “Rock and Roll” into a blissful “Carini.”

Light” 8.7. II

The band’s magnum opus from the Greek—one of the year’s improvisational peaks.

Harry Hood” 12.28 II

12.30.2010 (G.Lucas)

An impeccable, four-part musical conversation that, in my opinion, represents musical perfection.

Backwards Down the Number Line” 6.12 II

One of very few jams from June’s tour with staying power. Phish came together in an instant amidst a noodly jam and crafted a soundtrack for secret-agent.

Simple” 8.6 II

8.5.10 (W. Rogell)

One of the most engaging jams from, arguably, the most creative three-night stand of the year at the Greek.

Disease -> What’s the Use?” 8.14 II

Face melting rock and roll morphs into sublime territory, landing perfectly in “What’s the Use?.”

  2. Jtran Says:

    Morning comrades

Anyone have a good recommendation for an ipod dock..I need it to bring out to the deck when we’re hanging out outside, or bring to a different small room in the apartment that doesn’t have any speakers.

Preferably gets reasonably loud with decent/good/great sound and not too pricey

  3. ThePigSong Says:

spinning 7 Below>WTU again this morning; I’d like to echo the confusion with why they slowed it down to start up WTU. That tranny could have been perfect. (I realize how late I am to this discussion)

Anyway, getting cold down here, after a week of 90 we’re looking at a week of 60. No complaints from me.

    Wook Alert!</a?

  5. Bad Nirvana Cover Band Says:

I agree with @PigSong. It would have sounded way better as

    ‘7 Belo/>Horse’

  6. ThePigSong Says:

^Someone has to get that that dog to a Phish lot this summer.

  7. butter Says:

Just cuz we got 1 absolutely perfect transition, to die for, into WTU

The bar is set extremely high

  8. Robear Says:

Butter, golf game getting rained out?

  9. Robear Says:

Lost on Phish tour? Can’t find the venue? Need a hotel? There’s an app for that. Just downloaded iTour app.

    good morning peeps!

hips are sore from dancing to funkiest latin band ever!

Had a great time at the Hippo last night.

Sad to see it go, but stoked that they decided to bring some heat this last month.

Was a very old school night last night.

    Whoo! So much fun.

  12. Frycanthropist Says:

    better late than never.

yeh I was the one brought that up.

It just doesn’t flow for me.

  13. joe Says:

  14. Frycanthropist Says:

    if you are still around,

    check out Bela Bartok

amazing 20th century composer that is very out there.

I also happen to share a birthday with him.

  15. Frycanthropist Says:

top songs of that set: Pickpocket, Bob on Bourbon, Mellow Methodist

  16. ThePigSong Says:

I feel they could have morphed the jam around the 8:00 mark seamlessly into WTU. Hindsight 20/20 of course.

  17. phoammhead Says:

  18. Frycanthropist Says:

  19. kayatosh Says:

    g’ afternoon, pholks.

got on the paradox charlie wagon today. spinning bob on bourbon from the boom boom room. nice!

watched a bunch of phish on youtube last night including page’s new shirt and the bluegrass sessions from Nov. 94 w/ jeff mosier.

    I love phish.

    day two of herbal hiatus.

  20. Frycanthropist Says:

    thanks guys!

  21. Robear Says:

Frycan, I have a friend that is an excellent musician. Guitar is his specialty. His take on Phish:

“The guitar is way too loud. Isn’t the keyboard player playing? Listen. He’s way too low in the mix. “

  22. Frycanthropist Says:

    ha ha that is hilarious..

I will say that the 3.0 mixes do a lot to bring Page more to the fore front, but that has always been a complaint of mine.

Particular during some older Maze solos, Trey’s dissonant chord chops always seemed to overpower PAge’s solo.

As I said, it has seemed to get much better now.

  23. Robear Says:

He’s always complaining about guitar players. Must be in their nature…

  24. garretc Says:

Spun my first Bartok a couple days ago, Piano Concerto #2. Lots of parts I really liked, a few that I didn’t, all in all quality.

  25. BingosBrother Says:

Hey Robear, ever try 3 Floyds Robert the Bruce? my new favorite beer. by far.
