“Venues of Summer Vol. I” & Utica Giveaway!
As Summer Tour is around the corner, and in the spirit of the new soundboard tracks from the archives that continue to trickle out from “Past Summer Tours,” I decided to combine a compilation of my own with a contest and giveaway. Here’s the deal: in the compilation linked below—”Miner’s Venues of Summer Vol. I”—you’ll find 12 tracks from the history of Leg One venues. Just drop folder into iTunes and the setlist of the compilation will pop-up. But here’s the catch, you won’t see the venues or dates of the selections. Your job is to come up with the correct venue and date for each selection, nothing too hard, and shoot me an email with the subject line “Summer Venue Contest.” All correct responses will be entered to win one of three brand spanking new copies of “Phish: Live In Utica” DVD/CD box set! All winning entries will be put into a hat and the three winners will be drawn at random. You may enter anytime until Sunday at 3pm pacific, and the winners will be announced on Monday! Send your entries to mrminer@phishthoughts.com (FYI: I didn’t get all techie and strip MP3 tags, but just drop the folder in iTunes and play by the honor code. The point is to get as many candidates as possible for the Utica drawing, not to trick anyone.)
Enjoy the Tunes!

Jam of the Day:
“Halley’s -> Roses -> NO2” 7.13.99 I
Here’s a selection from Great Woods history that didn’t make the compilation, but is a retro-summer treat, nonetheless.

nevermind i just found a thread on – gasp -the green board. man, i am off my phish research A-game lately. but i guess that’s a good thing seeing as how i feel great these days and have been focusing on other things that i had been neglecting for a while.
SBD’s. more to come

@selecta
I have definitely heard ringcraft as a sample on more than one dj comp
lovin’ the flow so far today.
no doubt. I developed my hate for those youngsters when they were playing the reggae fest circuits in the late 90’s. kept having to catch their sets.
can’t say I hated it any more than Ziggy. he’s pretty lame too.
can’t say I’ve really heard anything they’ve done since. they were still riding the our dad is Bob so who cares if we suck coat tails back then. music seemed pretty silly.
should check out something more recent.
ftr I know absolutely nothing about reggae. just what my ears dig.
LOVE this Melt>Kung>Jam..this was what I was hoping will get released from this venue
That’s pretty cool @t3. Never heard it anywhere except on that track and a few dubs. (It’s on Dub Landing Vol. 1, for example.) I’ve never even heard a later version. You’d think that one would get a rewind and come again. Ringcraft riddim is a straight murderer.

The Traffic Jam has a pretty pimp video, imo. Lots of Rastas playing soccer and then the whole getting pulled over by the cops thing.
“Are you smoking marijuana?”
And I said, “Yes I am.”
Ziggy makes a few cameos, too.
^Just messed up the flow by playing the wrong track. Sorry, t3.
watching some of these Utica clips on vimeo and have listened to the show many, many times…just spectacular; my question is: how much of that show unfolds organically and how much of it is pre-determined? some of it has to be pre-determined but what make the phish choose to make that night a “special” special night over any other?
WOW there’s already 4 tracks released! So, so happy! I fucking love this band, and Duanebase at PT who has created a mediafire folder with some cool custom art

Big update to my Leaked SBD Tracks Project coming soon, folks!
oops
further down the thread he said MediaFire was causing issues…in case you have problems he also created a Sendspace page

seif…I’m guessing it was pre-determined setlist-wise, maybe with the exception of the Guyute. I don’t think it’s pre-determined to rage a show like they did in Utica. I think the crowd added to it. And I think the history Utica has with Trey in general may have had an impact. Don’t get me wrong, and apologies to any I may offend, but Utica is a dump, but Trey shows there have almost collapsed balconies.
I’m just stuck one 1 of these jams,…
I think this may be the last Selector show I can hear for a while. Giddyup!!!
Me figuresd it out
the scat during wolfman’s? that’s gotta be discussed prior.
@selecta
I know where it is from now. It is used on The Orb’s Star 6 and 7 8 9 track. so not a comp, per se…
Alpine II, Utica, MSG 1/1/2011
seems like they know going in when they are gonna go big for both sets
what determines the dates they decide to do this on is the big ?
can usually tell from the opening notes when you’re in for this type of evening.
Nice @t3. File that one for future ‘reggae factoids brought to you by Selector J.’
A lot of it has to be preplanned right down to jam themes. That said I think they’re used to be a lot more wiggle room back in the day.
You know your workin in a heady area when you come into work and there is a puddle of fresh blood five feet from the door, classy.
Call me crazy but I really don’t think all that much is planned at Phish shows. Trey is constantly calling tunes during the show.
Watching these Utica clips. Do we see less signs this tour. Jeez! It is so annoying. After every song. Dude/dudettes, they see your sign. If they want to play it they will. Now go fuck off! I’d go crazy if i had a sign guy in front of me.
Sorry, on edge a bit, T- 90 minutes till job interview.
@palmer
good luck!
and trey is to blame for the sign-splosion.
“we are the all request band” <-remember that??
def the setlist construction is some predetermined and some on the fly
but every kid in New York knew 1.1 was gonna be straight fire
don’t think Trey was just feeling it and it went the way of sickness. It was 1.1. a lot of the custies didn’t come back after 31 and they were gonna bring it. they could have failed but stepping on that stage Trey had a sick ass 2 set show in mind IMO
@selector,
Don’t get me wrong, I don’t think they plan out every last detail. But when they drop something like the Greek Light, I’d be surprised if that wasn’t discussed.
