Pre-Ball Odds and Ends

6.10.11 (G.Lucas)

Trey In Rolling Stone: In a short but candid interview published in Rolling Stone yesterday, Trey mentioned that Phish will be working on a new album this winter, 2012 will be light on touring, and that he is considering covering Metallica’s “Master of Puppets.” Read the whole piece here!

An interesting excerpt from Trey on the history of Phish festivals:

The festivals grew organically out of our early scene in Vermont. We were always a party band and we used to play outside a lot. People always seemed to show up. I remember a big pig roast at our friend Ian’s farm one summer – everyone came and slept in the field. We did a gig at our friend Amy’s farm in Maine and suddenly it was 5,000 people. Then we went to Plattsburgh and it was 50,000. You have to keep in mind, though, that there were no festivals to speak of when Phish was doing those early ones. I remember hearing about Burning Man, but even that was just getting going in the Nineties. Now there are tons, but it all felt very cutting edge in the mid-Nineties. There was no playbook. We were making it up as we went along.

purple – there’s this one band, you might have heard of, the good old grateful dead. As far as MMW, I really dig what they were doing back in ’96. And then all the radiolariens stuff is fun too. Bitches brew is great, if you like that, get in a silent way and tribute to jack johnson, for miles in general, definitely check out relaxin’ and working’ with the miles davis quintet. That shit is mind blowingly good.

yeah, if you like bitches brew, check out the live stuff form that era, all amazing (Dark Magus, Black Beauty, Live/Evil, etc.) I also love Directions, which I think Voopa had in his mediafire.

Miles alone can just take up months.

  20. ThePigSong Says:

Forgot to add the phishthoughts podcast to that list. Haven’t used it, but I’m sure it will come in handy. Also just realized all of summer 2010 is labeled as 4/20

    currently spinning 12/31/95 Reba

yeah, I found a Heineken in the fridge.

  21. guitarpicker420! Says:

I would be hard pressed to think of a sbd that beat the best aud tapes on this tour. The sound coming out of the pa is so on it and the sbds don’t reproduce the hugeness of mike, they just sound sterile. Sometimes its little things, like the entire audience singing bouncing, its not on top of the music, but its there. Click my name, the show is torrenting really fast right now, I think I got it in about 15 minutes or less. Check out the difference and tell me what you think.

  22. ThePigSong Says:

is phil and phriends with trey and page cheating?

  23. angryjoggerz Says:

    ^ cheating on Jerry, yes

  24. purplehumpbackwhale Says:

gp – i cant!! haha. i’ll DL them, but i cant listen till after friday!

  25. purplehumpbackwhale Says:

you can imagine my distress when the morning i started the fast, they drop love bait 05. 🙁
