TTFF: Tour Bookends

The Gorge '09 (W.Rogell)

With the Gorge exactly one week away, let’s take the final Friday before tour to review a few seminal jams that have gone down at both the Gorge and leg two’s closing locale, UIC Pavilion. Though some of these tracks have been posted before, they have the type of timeless staying power to warrant hearing again. A five-five split between the Gorge and UIC brings the last week before tour to an end. Enjoy the music…leg two awaits!

…and 7-31-99 just popped up, but I’m not seeding it…go buy a copy of Japan Relief instead! It includes the WTU soundcheck from 7-29.

  3. Leo Weaver Says:

Yeah Corey…I like to talk from time to time and made that discussion a long one.

Good call on that Desert Sky show. That was a good week or so of shows. Don’t miss the Lakewood ’97 KP Remaster Special from a few days earlier.

Caramels turned out really nice, though a little chewier than I like. Now to dip in chocolate.

  4. Mr. Palmer Says:

thanks Voopa. I agree, buy a copy of 7/31/99. Worth every penny.

Voopa – man I could open up a huge noob ball of wax but I’m singling you out just for kicks. With any of the Phish shows that are up on BT.etree, is it generally up to the individual to single out the best source or are there rankings/comments as to which is the best source for a particular show? I’ve always wondered why so many versions of a show would be put up but everyone likes different sounding auds I guess…I mean I catch all of gp420s work and I see that kaya has his opinions etc but I’m not a voracious back catalog listener…and I primarily listen to sbd so those are a few more reasons I don’t commit to torrenting/lossless, etc. In general. It’s not really part of my make up but I completely understand it’s appeal, especially if one is a completist.

Evening and happy weekend to all.

I remember the Desert Sky show. It was one of my last days living in Tempe before I moved on to San Diego and eventually Colorado. I was piss broke, trouble finding a job, and stressed to the gills due to many other life events. That show provided a great relief for just one night. There were some highlights musically.

Pre and post show there were lowlights. There were sketchy people all around, and a lot of violence. I attributed it to the heat, and desert wooks. I was definitely jaded for a while.

Coincidental baby talk today. We just visited some friends who just had a baby and is a week old. He was super mellow up until we left when he proceeded to pee on my friend after he changed him into a new diaper.

GD- You can find comments for most sources at db.etree, but I think the general consensus is, draw your own conclusions. Some sources have obvious flaws of course, but with some shows, it’s a matter of preference.

That and most tapers like to have their work circulated, regardless of how many other sources may exist. The sources that are put back into official circulation by shnfamily are determined by whoever is in charge of the project at the time, and that person may not have every source in circ, and just shares what he has.

Myself, I try to grab every available source when I can, just so I have it in case someone wants it down the line (like tela’s request for shnid #3 yesterday).

I’m really grateful to have Waves and ASIHTOS back, just sayin’

I got to spin tons of Phish today due to my wife and sister becoming hooked on a jersey shore marathon. For the first time in my life I appreciate that show, I had all day to listen to Phish and read.

Hey, so we (mdawg and I) have something in the works for a bar very close to UIC on Tuesday night, 2 hours of fixed price drinking, then peeps can order food off the menu as they wish. Will put some info up here tomorrow, see what kind of interest we have, etc. Very close to venue, etc.

  14. angryjoggerz Says:

I should say that it was mdawg who put i tall together and I heartily nodded in approval.

  15. Gavinsdad Says:

    Thank u Voopa.

  16. ThePigSong Says:

    ^OH FUCK!

that furthur stream is in Atlanta. I’m such a fucking space cadet.

  17. angryjoggerz Says:

jazz radiohead covers going on at the TT, feel it.

  18. Gavinsdad Says:

Right on AJ…a couple pages back I had many UIC related questions…fill us non Chicagoans in when you have some time.

  19. ThePigSong Says:

That was one of the few shows I wanted to catch this month. Just asked my girls why they didn’t remind me? – Jersey Shore was polluting their minds.

I take back any props I gave to that show a few posts ago.

  20. Mr palmer Says:

Nice work mdawg and AJ. Thank you.

  21. EL Duderino Says:

You got a problem, take it up with my butt cause he’s the only one who gives a crap…

    UIC info:

    – Blue Line stop is Racine
    http://www.transitchicago.com/assets/1/clickable_system_map/200806C.htm

    – Tons of food in the area, Taylor street for Italian and bars, Greektown for Greek, Manny’s yes, hella Italian beef type of places all over.

    – If people are looking for a fun post show bar that is just oh so Chicago, def check out Skylark http://www.yelp.com/biz/skylark-chicago. Fun place, not too far from UIC, but def a drive, not a walk from UIC. Fast cab ride.

    – On that Monday there is a free concert at noon at Millennium Park, Josh Berman, a local jazz cat. A great venue to see a show, free, one hour. Come chill and have a coffee and take it in, Chicago in the summer.
    http://joshberman.net/

    – I would definitely hit the Art Institute while you are there, a world class museum, one of my favorite places in Chicago.
    http://www.artic.edu/aic/exhibitions/current.php

    – If people are up for late night music in a classic Chicago venue, hit the Green Mill for some late night jazz, open till 3 or 4. This is an old timey jazz place, Capone hung out there and all that, very cool vibe, classic Chicago bar. You can take the Red Line to Lawrence and walk half a block. I live about 2 blocks from there, so hit me up.
    http://www.greenmilljazz.com/phpBB2/cal_view_month.php?month=8&year=2011&category=&sid=5d006d97ffce9159ad15e3c4a09280cf

    – If you are looking for a cheap lunch downtown and dont want to do chain stuff, hit the Oasis Cafe for some fallafels and stuff. It is a trip, in the back of a jewelry store under the train tracks on Wabash. Lots of Art Institute students and regular folks, was my staple when I worked nearby.
    http://www.yelp.com/biz/oasis-cafe-chicago

    – Also, since you are going to be right downtown and you may want coffee, fuck starbucks and go to Intelligentsia, which is very close. Some real deal coffee, great vibe in there too.
    http://www.intelligentsiacoffee.com/locations/view/Millennium+Park+Coffeebar

    – Another Chicago institution is Reckless Records, with 3 locations in the city. If you dont have time to hit the Wicker Park store, check the one out in the loop, always worth a visit.
    http://www.reckless.com/

Alright, will think about if there are other things and also hope other Chicagoans will fill in and correct me.

just listened to the First Tube from sbix – although nothing mind blowing (msg 09) it sure made me appreciate how lucky I was to be there with most of my coolest friends.
