Sometimes, last night of tour, peeps are cleaning house on all their accoutrements. Doubling down, passing around, generally over doing everything. Sounds like the BBers were full on participants. I can see what @MiA is getting at, as far as intensity and off the charts psychic energy.
So I just acquired a 500 gig external drive – woohoo!!! Can’t believe this is true, but it is…I’ve never heard Island Tour.
Taking some of it for a long walk now. See you all on the other side.
Good point Robear.
Trey probably is the same way…trying to shove every single thing ( song) he can think of, into the setlist.
Last night of tour’d…..
Like almost everyone has said, UIC 3 set II, through Piper is pretty smoking.
UIC 3, Treys way of encouraging everyone to hit Colorado.
At least their wasn’t a harpua squeezed I’m
Well, to me NoQ has kinda that whole “Game of Thrones” sort of thing to it… (winter is coming…)
The snow falls hard and don’t you know
The winds of Thor are blowing cold
They’re wearing steel that’s bright and true
They carry news that must get through
The snow drives back the foot that’s slow
The dogs of doom are howling more
They carry news that must get through
To build a dream for me and you
Things really didn’t start to “kick in for me” until Maze, then Kuroda was really blasting the whites and yellows on us during Trey’s solo, instead of the soothing blues and purples. I couldn’t look into them. I would have lost my sense of balance. Had to look away.
I was thinking … “They’re trying to knock me over. I can tell it. They want this sonic boom to lay me on my butt. Mike’s bass bombs are like someone jacking with the boat, when you’re standing up in it to clear your line fishing.” Gotta stand strong swinging my fists like Captain Dan in a hurricane.
The whole floor looked to be trippin’ hard. Giving each other the “wow” eyes.
By Tweezer, I was sure Trey was going for the one-two punch. Although all the “still waiting” stuff, felt so laughably tongue in cheek, I lost all feeling that they were just trying to freak me out. (Deer Creek ’96 – Mike’s Groove. Mercilessly fucking with us by conjuring up hellacious jams) Don’t like that so much.
I told AW prior to the start of set I, the good part about 3.0 Phish is that you generally didn’t have to worry they were going to pull out an “evil” Twist or jam, and have you cowering under the seats somewhere anymore. They seem to be way over that.
When Ghost started playing, I thought, whew. There are no “dark” Ghosts and I’m out of the woods. It’s all downhill from here. This should be a funk fest. And then with the notes of Maki, I realized that like a trip that had the potential of going south, I was laughing my ass off and having a great time.
I’ll say it again. Trey saw melted faces with where he was going, and he saved (some of us). For those that wanted further melting, they were probably disappointed. I for one, still had a great time. Smile intact.
Sorry for the long post.
Lovin your long posts MiA. You cats have really helped me fill in the blanks of what life inside the storage shed was like. The recordings only tell part of the story.
Funny thing, Mikes bass sounded more twisted and crazy on the stream than it does the soundboards. Phunky sounding sheds, turned concert venue.
Try making a play list and just ‘delete’ Ghost, and it’s a wonderful set actually. Piper -> Makisupa. I love set II. Really do. But I like Sleep a lot too.
I hate the botched Golgi. I felt less “cross” about a 3:48 Ghost, then I did that Trey couldn’t play Golgi correctly.
For as both an experience and as a piece of music the Gorge RnR is top shelf remarkable. For me way beyond Tahoe Light.
I will never forget the look on my wife’s face during RnR -she was truly terrified. I was too – and absolutely loving it.
I think it is the most cohesive piece of 3.0 psychedelica.
had to weigh in – I love this jam.
” The whole floor looked to be trippin’ hard. Giving each other the “wow” eyes. ”
^^ pretty sure we exchanged one of those “wow” looks.
“Wow, and Whoa” are about the only sounds I could muster last day of SBIX.
I was really hoping you’d get a Harpua @ AW. Knew it was a slim chance after the ‘Forbins’ opener.
excellent post @MiA!
hit me up on email, wanna holla at you bout somethin…
lycanthropist.kelly at the gmizz
I’m “Still Waiting” for them to go back into -> Ghost.
Nhost’d
“wow looks”
^yep. folks got the nite 1 experience and didn’t let go.
Awesome posts all day.
Lmao @ Mdawg.
For such a collective, Phish can be so personal.
Bravo!
My life is in a huge state of flux. Worked out that I needed to miss UIC. Been nice re-capping and listening and such with so many good folks.
Robear
the universe is a tricky thing… bigger than any of us individually obviously.
I have come to realize that any action, anything, can be intrepreted as positive or negative. And that the “greater purpose” that is oft talked about lies deep within in the subtlety of little things.
I am sad that I didn’t get any Phish this summer…
BUT
I was able to save my marriage (or start to anyway)
I spent an extended amount of time with my daughter
I got a promotion at work.
All because I didn’t prioritize going to see Phish or playing my own music.
And I know that will make my next show that much better and a culmination of a lot of personal growth and hard work.
Hotel PSA: no need to EVER stay at the hotel Burnham in Chicago. The $500 “deep cleaning” charge on my Amex says so. Only downside to my trip was dealing with 2 hotel penguins when we were paying for 3 freaking hotel rooms.
/febreze’d
Noted Lycan. Nice work.
Awesome Lycan! Colorado it is?
@ everyone and anyone, Apologies for the harsh tones lately.
i wish Robear
unfortunately that USM’s first football game… which means all hands on deck at work that weekend.. no way i can get off.
AW, that Seun Kuti album comes across like rolling thunder on my little Def Techs.
Multiple spins already.
I need download codes for 8.8, 8.10 and 8.15 if anyone would be so kind as to share them.
I may be all hands on deck that weekend at home. I have flight, tix and room, but it’s up in air.
Damn, any chance at new years off in your line o work?
