Tunes of Tuesdays Past

6.27.10 (Graham Lucas)

Welcome to Tuesday! All songs in today’s playlist were performed on Tuesday, therefore bringing synchronicity between today and this music. Enjoy some of these lesser known selections.

Wolfman’s Brother” – 6.24.97 II, Strasbourg, FR

A heavy helping of raw, unpasteurized cowfunk from Europe ’97.

Bathtub Gin > Cities” – 7.1.97 II, Paradiso, NL

How about some more?

Ghost > Halley’s > Tweezer” – 11.24.98 II, New Haven, CT

Fast forward to the last Tuesday of tour during Fall ’98 in New Haven Coliseum.

Mike’s Song” 10.29.96 II, Tallahassee, FL

I often push this “Mike’s” in which the band got in some pre-Atlanta practice, vamping over Remain In Light’s “Houses in Motion” during the song’s second jam.

Simple” – 12.9.97 II, State College, PA

One of Fall ’97 most exploratory jams comes from one of its least talked about tour stops at Penn State.

Glide II” – 5.16.95, Lowell, MA

After a Voters For Choice benefit showcased six new originals and three new covers, many fans have been waiting for a return of this one-timer ever since.

David Bowie” – 6.13.95 II, Atlanta, GA

Summer ’95 + “Bowie” = psychedelic monstrosity

Keyboard Cavalry > Jam w/ MMW” – 10.17.95, New Orleans, LA

After playing an opening set for Phish in New Orleans, John Medeski, Billy Martin, and Chris Wood came out opening for an extended jam session with the guys to close out the second set. Fishman spent stints on vacuum and trombone.

    2011 soundcheck jams:

just the stand alone jams, no songs, no banter, etc. just an hour of jamming.

  3. alf Says:

^from all the soundchecks that circulated: sbix, dicks 2 & 3, & essex

  4. Spasm Waiter Says:

“Young man, what is this case about?”

    “Um, subject matter jurisdiction?”

    “Correct, but what about it?”

“In this jurisdiction, I do not know the subject matter.”

  8. Jtran Says:

    How about the 9/24/00 Cities

Never even heard anyone talk about this jam. Pretty sweet. $$+

  9. Kaveh Says:

@alf…can’t tell you how many times I’ve spun your soundcheck music file. It is so good…and perfect for the wife and I, since we are starting to remodel our basement. Thanks again man, really appreciate it.

Nice mix of tunes to wake up this morning. Thanks Miner!

The 1st jam in the Essex soundcheck is sweet.

Did anyone see the aurora’s last night. Couldn’t see them down in CO 🙁 easily one of the greatest displays of light I have ever seen. CK5 has nothing on Aurora’s 8)

  13. SillyWilly Says:

I can perform any amount of manual labor as long as I have Phish jams to accompany

one of my favorite winter activities is being at my parents’ and telling my pops to leave the snowblower in the garage.

then loading up the ipod with jamz and shovelling for hours.

it’s good for the earth, better for your cardiovascular system, and best for your ears.

  14. alf Says:

    glad you’re enjoying kavek 😮

  15. alf Says:

    oops, kaveh

  16. Guyute711 Says:

The only problem with that Silly is sometimes great music gets associated with work and I don’t like that. I have a couple Pavement songs I love but every time I hear them now I think of working in Pizza Villa in Rochester NY.

here are some photo’s of last night’s aurora west of Madison Wi

Here is another link of last night’s aurora display

  18. Kaveh Says:

I heard you could have seen them in north Minneapolis, but from our house in NE Minneapolis, we could not. They are great to see…when we do get the chance.

  19. SillyWilly Says:

    how’d I miss that?

    sleep is for quitters.

yeah, that’s a good point. I guess I don’t mind some work (and therefore isn’t “work”?)

when I was in college, our strength coach 1. always told us we didn’t need music to work out to 2. but sometimes he let me play Phish (which was weird because I wasn’t the model of strength on our team, if you couldn’t tell)

I did vow never to power clean – even to NYE ’95 – ever again.

  20. halcyon Says:

One of my greatest memories was seeing them on Kodiak island several years ago. Stayed up all night to watch them.

  21. Guyute711 Says:

I used to run to stuff like old Metallica. Sometimes I would have to say to myself, “whoa buddy, stop sprinting and throwing punches.” You can wear yourself out in a hurry trying to run to metal.

  22. Kaveh Says:

@halcyon – thanks for the links. And yes, for once, CK5 has nothing on the aurora’s, indeed.

  23. BingosBrother Says:

Wrestling, Metal, and cutting weight go hand in hand. PYITE is a great song to warm up to.

  24. Phamily Berzerker Says:

    Feliz Cumpleaños MiA!

  25. alf Says:

    mmmmm… unpasteurized
