Tunes of Tuesdays Past

6.27.10 (Graham Lucas)

Welcome to Tuesday! All songs in today’s playlist were performed on Tuesday, therefore bringing synchronicity between today and this music. Enjoy some of these lesser known selections.

Wolfman’s Brother” – 6.24.97 II, Strasbourg, FR

A heavy helping of raw, unpasteurized cowfunk from Europe ’97.

Bathtub Gin > Cities” – 7.1.97 II, Paradiso, NL

How about some more?

Ghost > Halley’s > Tweezer” – 11.24.98 II, New Haven, CT

Fast forward to the last Tuesday of tour during Fall ’98 in New Haven Coliseum.

Mike’s Song” 10.29.96 II, Tallahassee, FL

I often push this “Mike’s” in which the band got in some pre-Atlanta practice, vamping over Remain In Light’s “Houses in Motion” during the song’s second jam.

Simple” – 12.9.97 II, State College, PA

One of Fall ’97 most exploratory jams comes from one of its least talked about tour stops at Penn State.

Glide II” – 5.16.95, Lowell, MA

After a Voters For Choice benefit showcased six new originals and three new covers, many fans have been waiting for a return of this one-timer ever since.

David Bowie” – 6.13.95 II, Atlanta, GA

Summer ’95 + “Bowie” = psychedelic monstrosity

Keyboard Cavalry > Jam w/ MMW” – 10.17.95, New Orleans, LA

After playing an opening set for Phish in New Orleans, John Medeski, Billy Martin, and Chris Wood came out opening for an extended jam session with the guys to close out the second set. Fishman spent stints on vacuum and trombone.

Didn’t really delve into my trip tho. Cali was awesome. Got there Thursday night and took our time driving up from SF on Friday checkin out the red woods along the way. Talk about magical. Those things are special. Glad they are protected. We arrive in the humboldt area with no cell service and can’t find my friends road. Use the gps the best I can’t and it’s pitch black so I see a house light and start yelling for my friend. Some local rides up on a 4wheeler to the street and starts giving me shit and yelling how people get robbed this time of year and I’m lucky he didn’t have his pistol cause we’d have had trouble and that I’m a fucking idiot. I remind the dude I apologized already and thought it would have been more sketch going to his door if he had a gun or a dog and if he wasn’t who I was looking for he could have stayed in his house. (fuck that guy) finally get to a phone on these country roads and make a call to my friend.

Sat and sun were spent grooming. Got the hang of it the 2nd day. Next time id stay a week to actually break even. We didn’t come close with the tear drop rental and uhaul by the mile. The tear drop tho was a lot of fun. It’s like having a 2 person tent and kitchen on wheels. Next time there’s a festival I’m taking one. They are awesome.

Then we drove back monday and I got pulled over. 101 cops have great hiding places. Shoulda been pulled over about 4 times before I finally did. Speed limit for towing is 55 and I can’t drive that. Cop gets me out of the car and checks my NY ID. “do you have any marijuana in the car?” no. “well the car was extremely pungent. I don’t know if you were around others but it’s bad…not that I really care but just so ya know if you aren’t from Cali, you can’t have it.” oh I know. I dont have any. Musta been the campers next to us… (get back to the car and we still don’t think we smell but we start looking and our clothes have leaves all over em, didn’t realize til we were at the airport just how much we smelled, we still stunk in the cab in jerz but out noses must have adjusted) I just schmoozed with him about the camper and he let me off.

Then we stayed on haight in the red something hotel which has themed rooms and was a hoot. Went out drinking til the bartender turned on the lights at 2am. Lame last call hour. And went home Tuesday.

The whole trip was a blast and relaxing and everything I wanted. That’s why im really thinking about moving. Plus you guys don’t have winters like we do which is a plus.

Ps AW I didn’t take a custy pic in the garden. That as a joke. Sorry to let you down.

Debating transferring jobs or joining as a trimmer at a dispensary. Read an article in the local humboldt paper about how you can actually do shit like that as a profession and pay taxes and be legit. I bet they are lenient about taking off for shows which is what I’m actually trying to start doing alike I originally intended in NYC.

Went to penn a bit ago. Crowd outside was loud for the rangers. Was like a Phish show going in.

  6. gavinsdad Says:

  13. bob dylan Says:

Speaking of 215, I think I can milk the broken bows for a mj card if I move someplace. Blame it on arthritis or some shit. “they hurt when I lift heavy stuff for a while or if it rains a lot”

How legit does it have to be? I hear in jerz you gotta have a terminal illness.

  14. Spasm Waiter Says:

    Congrats Oldskool.
    Amazing story bingos. Cool cool.

  15. bob dylan Says:

Thanks for the kind words all, inhale and exhale towards spas and oldskool family. And to all you TicketHunters out there. The world needs the BB in the Garden. Great to have a place to share stories like that with people who appreciate it. Be it ever so voraciously alternate.

  17. Jtran Says:

    sick story bob, cheers

  18. BingosBrother Says:

Hey BD, finally figured out why they call you Mango last night whilst cooking breakfast burritos for dinner. I am slow.

  19. MrCompletely Says:

@bd, depends on the state and the doc

on the west coast you can find a friendly doc and say something about it helping you sleep or you have anxiety or whatever and that’s it

    I don’t have one though

just don’t want to bullshit. I don’t puff for medical reasons. I’d be medically fine without it. Perfectly OK with just breaking an immoral law

  20. SillyWilly Says:

    great story, bob d

  24. bob dylan Says:

Bingos, figured my old avatar would help clear that up for any stragglers.

  25. Mr. Palmer Says:
