Turkey Tunes: Pt. I

Turkey Day is Coming...

Phish and Thanksgiving have long held a connection in the minds of many fans. Landing on Fall Tour so many times, everyone has at least one funny story about a Phishy Thanksgiving spent on the road. But without a fall tour this year, let’s take the opportunity to look back at the intersection of fall tours past and Turkey Day. This playlist is plucked entirely of shows played on the Wednesday, immediately preceding the festival of family, food and football.

11.25.1992 Keswick Theatrek Glenside, PA

11.23.1994 Fox Theatre, St, Louis, MO

11.26.1997 Civic Center, Hartford, CT

11.25.1998 “The Knick,” Albany, NY

Fee -> Maze” 11.25.92 I, Glenside, PA

A classic song combo from the Keswick Theatre’s first set in ’92

Zero -> 2001 -> Cities -> Ya Mar” 11.26.97 II, Hartford, CT

One of my favorite jam sequenced of Fall ’97. The “Zero” jam,  itself, is a Hendrix-infused dreamscape.

Tweezer > Lifeboy” 11.23.94 II, St. Louis, MO

A jam of legend from The Fox in ’94.

Run Like An Antelope11.25.92 II

The first renaissance of “Antelopes” came in 1992.

You Enjoy Myself” 11.25.98 II, Albany, NY

This funked-out “YEM” was the following version played in The Knick after 12.9.95’s monstrous rendition.

Harry Hood” 11.25.92 II

A thrilling, old-school ride on the night before Thanksgiving.

    @Palmer: Maybe the announcement at 1pm (CST) was the NL MVP? Ryan Braun is your winner…for those baseball fans.

  7. Robear Says:

    you all need to spin that 11/18/98 ‘Slave’ one more time. listen to the middle section around 7;00 min on, to the build up. trey hits a lick at 8:15 that’s pretty much, life the universe and everything in one phrase.

    so, 97, 98, 99, 00 were good times. It’s the only break from the country being in open wars since 1991. good grief.

  8. voopa Says:

    It’s OK Robear, you can use the term “crescendo” there. Apt.

  9. Mike in Austin Says:

    Awesome rec Robear. Gonna get that. $2.70 used? What a deal.

    Man, seems like a great Christmas present.

  10. dorn76 Says:

    Errol Morris posted a short film today on the NYT on the occasion of the Anniv of the Kennedy Assasination. I can’t get enough of this guy’s documentaries.”Fog of War” about Vietnam/McNamara is simply awesome.

    silly: been listenig to 11.10 and 11.3. sound quality of the 11.6 tape I heard was sub par. I’ve been an MMW fan for a while but have really been digging them a lot over the past year, year and a half.

  18. jerseyjim Says:

    mrkt traced out nearly a perfect W today. straight down off gap open, bottom at 11:50AM; up to peak at 1:30 PM, in the wake of IMF bailout fund for EU news; been going down steadily since then. needs to go up in last 45 mins. to complete the W (unlikely). almost looks orchestrated, it’s so symmetrical.

    got stuck short when IMF news hit and stubbornly (stupidly) kept shorting right into the peak and 2:15 fed announcement. (fearful that the bernak was gonna let loose some more $ printing, but otherwise confident that people want to get liquid in this mrkt) Got out of the outsized short pos. as soon as I saw daylight. couldn’t rule out a continuation of the IMF induced move. could have made decent b a n k, but instead rookie’d it. such is trading. staying alive is the game and any $ made, however small is a victory.

    Fuck $. I hate it. but w/ 2 kids and self-employment it haunts my dreams.

  25. garretc Says:

    IMF bailout, eh?

    Gotta go hear the skinny on that one
