One Month To Go…

7.3.11 - Watkins Glen (Graham Lucas)

I’ll be back tomorrow with a new post and a Hampton/Winston-Salem Box Set giveaway! In the meantime, here is some listening music from this day in Phish history.

Ghost” 11.28.97 II,Worcester, MA

This silky-smooth rendition greeted the post-Thanksgiving crowd in Worcester ’97.

Tweezer” 11.28.98 II, Worcester, MA

A relatively straightforward version from the least significant show of Worcester’s three-night, tour-closing stand in ’98.

Seven Below > Ghost” 11.28.09, Albany, NY

When this sequence dropped two years ago tonight, it was nothing short of a revelation for a jam-deprived fan base of Fall ’09.

i was hoping hard for that hampton rumor

guess it did seem too good to be true

gonna be a long offseason for this kid.

and while the circumstances behind Clapton writing “tears in heaven” were tragic, i always looked at that song as the major cheese crossover moment in dudes career. the tune is too woven into sadness to really be able to escape it, and the song resonated with millions. (and i also have seen clapton rip shit at crossroads so i’m not blinded to the fact that he’s got it in his soul, i’m just saying that the adult alternative stuff changed my opinion of him forever)

not saying that will happen with the Trza symphony, and i’m not so dense as to not appreciate this sort of arrangement, but this is our very own Ernesto going full VELVEETA. i’m sure many of you will support this “progression”, and i dont begrudge the guy his creative outlets, but…now dude is old as fuck and acting the part. this may be his headier santana moment for all we know. i’m just mad cause i want him to stay the beserk nerd prog, dare i say “jedi”, ive come to know over the years. im having a hard time letting go of the face melting image of the Triz i have in my head and want to keep in my head.

and you dont need to be old to cheese: even the gnarliest dudes like Gregg Allman did albums like “Allman and Woman” early in their careers.

sometimes you cant ever tell. i will wait for reports from the road i guess.

Trey should make a stop in Beaver Creek for me. Those old rich snoots that live up here love a good symphony up in the mountains.

  5. Mulitbeast Says:

I am still hoping for those rumored vegas dates in ’12….any additional info on this rumor?

  6. Guyute711 Says:

    Cyber Monday just sounds filthy.

No Miley Cyrus talk today? Can’t wait to burn one with her on tour next summer.

  7. tela'smuff Says:

    i’m sure i’ll go, but i won’t like it dammit. ๐Ÿ˜‰

  8. GhostDog Says:

@Robear. Thanks for the suggestion, I will check that out.

  9. seif Says:

    1.5 TB = $70

  10. gavinsdad Says:

word seif my 2tb was all of 89

  11. Mr. Palmer Says:

Kaveh- I do not have a good feeling about the g-Men tonight. Boley is out again. The defensive signal caller, which means Brees will be able to pick apart the middle of their defense like Vince Young ( sigh) did last week. Stranger things have happened and this team tends to play to level of competition and actually plays better on the road…so who knows.

I love how people seem to take it personal when Trey goes out of his comfort zone and tries different things. The ‘ I can’t believe he’s doing this to us”.. I don’t give a crap what he does as long as he continues to allow Phish to be the primary focus, which is the case. The guy lives, eats, breathes, music and is thinking outside the box on ways to create it. Should be commended, not condemned.

  12. ThePigSong Says:

That Atlanta show is a block and a half from my house, looks like we’ll make it a nice proper evening out. which is weird.

  13. voopa Says:

    Well said, Palmer.

  14. Mulitbeast Says:

Nicely put Palmer. Summer 2011 relived any concerns I had about the state of live phish. If he wants to do some solo dates with the local elementary school choir belting out Fee, I am ok with it.

  15. EL Duderino Says:

I could give 2 shits if Trey takes 2 shits on stage for a 45.00$ entry fee…

    whatever makes him happy…

  16. tela'smuff Says:

i’m certainly not condemning it Palmer, but musically it might not hit me, but that’s based on recordings/vid and i’m sure being there is another story. overall though, based on what i’ve heard it’s not my thang, but i respect Trey and his musical outlets completely.

i for one hope that with this presumed Winter/Spring break we get a Pork Tornado tour. i’m on it.

  17. gavinsdad Says:

trey does what I say palmer, not the other way around ๐Ÿ˜‰

  18. bob dylan Says:

El dude, the drobo is one of the cases you’re talking about but what’s awesome about drobo is that it does the copying of files to other drives for redundancy for you.

  19. EL Duderino Says:

    @ Bob D

I bet those are not cheap

  20. poop goblin Says:

love that Trey has other outlets for different kinds of stuff as long as it doesn’t dilute the phish experience

I need dirty, funky psych rock from the boys please

if he wants to make musicals and adult contemporary with his time off fine by my.

let’s just pick up where Gorge, UIC, and DIck’s left off and he can cheeze away with his side projects

  21. halcyon Says:

Classical music is deep and complex. It is great for an occasional listen. Gustav Holsts Music for 9 Planets, Chopin, Hector Berlioz, etc etc

When is Page doing a jazz piano tour?

  22. bob dylan Says:

Trey symphony was great at carnegie. Doesn’t mean I’m excited that’s what he’s spending his time on.

    Nitrous mafia outside Carnegie. Unreal.

  23. halcyon Says:

    Right PG

In order to get UIC, Dick’s, Gorge RnR, there will be Orchestral Trey, Mike G doing his solo thing, Fishman milking cows on his farm, and Page doing who knows what.

    Something like that…..

  24. poop goblin Says:

Love classical music. Just canโ€™t think of many times I enjoy rock or acoustic guitar music with symphonic backing. Just never really works for me.

Who knows. Iโ€™d give it a shot. Canโ€™t be worse than a TAB show.

  25. poop goblin Says:

Now where is the all instrumental fusion project with Medeski, Brian Blade, and Stanley Clarke
