A Box Set Debate…

In Stores Today

Instead of posting on Phish Thoughts today, I co-wrote an article with “Guy Forget” of Online Phish Tour for publication on their site. With the official release of the Hampton/Winston-Salem box set today, we had a written debate on which show is the “best” in the box—nothing like making art compete! I made a case for 11.23 at Winston-Salem, while he took the position of Hampton’s second night, 11.22. Check out the article, it should be a fun read!

Jam of the Day:

Tweezer -> Izabella” 12.6.97 II

Today is the 14 year anniversary of my favorite “Tweezer” ever played.

Here’s a link to a piece I wrote about this jam a while back. I’ll post the beginning below.

My “Go-To” Jam

12/6/97 "Tweezer" T-Shirt - LE

Everyone has a go-to jam. It fits any mood you could ever be in, and you’ve listened to it several hundred times in your life. It is the first piece of music you want to hear when you are glowing after a show, ready to conquer the world. It is the first piece of music you want to listen to after a hard day at work. It is the only piece of music you could never possibly get sick of, even if played on a loop in your head forever. It is that analog tape you played to death, that CD you never lost, and now it is forever stored on your computer, iPod, and several other devices. It is part of you; you feel like what you hear, it just all fits. For me, there is only one answer to this scenario—the “Tweezer” from Auburn Hills ’97. Read on!

question – is brooklyn legit to stay in for the new years run? Tom, garret, and I just lost our hotel reservation due to nyc shutting down our hotel (haha just ridiculous).

anywho, I seem to still be able to find good deals on hotels in Brooklyn now, and the subway ride in is like 10 minutes to msg.

    any thoughts?

Weird. Ticketmaster hates me or something. I can’t sit here emotionally and type in for tickets and get rejected each time.

I’d make a terrible telemarketer. Give up easy.

  5. tela'smuff Says:

  6. angryjoggerz Says:

Whole family approves of Washed Out album. At the house album of the year in the joggerz house.

  7. tela'smuff Says:

that’s a good one @AJ. saw him at Pitchfork last year and for a guy on a computer, i still enjoyed it.

  8. angryjoggerz Says:

I tend to enjoy guys on computers a lot. I think about 98% of the music I like is a guy on a computer.

  9. angryjoggerz Says:

18 of my top 30 lps are guys on computers, ha! Modern times.

  10. Mulitbeast Says:

Digging the Washed Out album at our haus too….M83’s new one is also very good.

  11. Mike in Austin Says:

    30th still. Thanks AJ.

  12. tela'smuff Says:

i’m so so on that M83 record. need to give it some more listens.

yeah, Lindstrom was fun as well.

    Mouse on Mars…..drool….love em.

  13. Mike in Austin Says:

I guess the TT is just a guy on a computer (in a way). I vote for TT to be my album of the year.

  14. DaNcInG fOoL Says:

@AJ, their EP “Life of Leisure” is even better

  15. DukeOfLizards Says:

AJ, saw you were staying on the upper east side for the run. Whereabout?

  16. Mr palmer Says:

I randomly watched the pilot of Breaking Bad last night.

What is the deal with this show? How many seasons are there? What channel was it on because the episode I watched was on AMC but had language bleeped out. I want to watch more.

  17. angryjoggerz Says:

Staying across from Lincoln Center, it is my usual spot, close to my office. I think it might actually be upper west side. Im not so good with NY directions.

  18. angryjoggerz Says:

DF, new James Blake ep dropped today

  19. halcyon Says:

What’s the word on James Blake? Is he any good? Is he the dubstep cheese that’s out there, or something a bit hipper?

  20. DaNcInG fOoL Says:

    AJ, hear it yet?

  21. DaNcInG fOoL Says:

@halcyon, as a dubstep hater i give my full stamp of approval for james blake. love him

  22. angryjoggerz Says:

James Blake is a young British guy, classically trained, but yeah def influenced by dubstep. He sings. His music is pretty low key, not dancefloory (though he is on R&S, a legendary techno label). Saw him live this summer and he was great. His lp is probably my most listened to album this year. Def not for everyone.

  23. angryjoggerz Says:

I am not a dubstep hater, though. I do think it is well past it’s time, though, but I was a big dubstep person early in the game… it has gotten pretty horrible, but that is the nature of the sub genre game.

  24. tela'smuff Says:

i’ve had a tougher time with James Blake. I don’t know the technical way to describe it as i can’t keep up with genre tages. it’s more chill elctro glitch? Washed Out and Lindstrom tend to be more “groove” less glitch. If you’ve heard Burial before, that’s what James Blake reminds me of. but i could be off in my shitty description.

  25. angryjoggerz Says:

Listening to it now, very cool. He has such a specific sound.
