Retro Post: Exploring on the Eighth
Today, I’ll let my blog do my work for me. Here’s a link to last year’s December 8th installment of December jam memoirs, a series of posts in which I tracked the calendar using Phish jams. The intro is below.
****
Today, our December focus shift onto two sprawling excursions that took place on the eighth day of the month in 1995 and 1999. Both selections — Cleveland’s “Tweezer > Kung > Tweezer” and Cumberland County Civic Center’s “Piper” — feature musical explorations that veer far off the beaten path, providing snapshots of the band’s experimental side as seen through the lenses of 1995 and 1999…Read On!

Jam of the Day:
“Piper > Dog-Faced Boy” 12.8.99 II
Part of a stellar second set at Cumberland County Civic Center in Portland, Maine. Read about it in the article linked above.

VIDEO OF THE DAY: “Jennifer Dances” 12.7.99 II
One of the three December ’99 performances of the much-maligned tune. I’ve always wondered, “What’s not to like?”

Nice Dude. I have a custom Martin HD-28 I bought with a 1 3/4 neck for fingerstyle playing. Love it. I use a Takamine for a backpack guitar.
you could always go the cheaper route and by a Fender “Hot Rod” tube amp series I guess
the D-45 is my dream acoustic… although the HD-28 has the same wood and construction the D-45 is gorgeous
I do like tubes, but I’m currently using a Jazz Chorus 120, and love it.
I really felt guilty with the $$$ for the HD-28. Love it’s sound, and fits my hands perfectly. The D-45’s are usually a lot prettier, but…
Just can’t afford to be pretty. You could buy another guitar with the difference.
@BB and @Palmer thanks for representing in my absence 🙂
Yes, PB, I’m in search of a single 12/29 and 12/30. And yes, I just got the crazy eye from my wife. She knew I bought the plane ticket. She did not know that I am sans tickets at the moment.
Rock.
true.

Papa Joe Craven is a bad ass!
rehearsal footage taboot
I drove through Nazareth, PA last weekend, staying in the Poconos. The plan was to take the kids to the Martin factory for a tour, but we ended up staying in Jersey an extra night with friends from school, so that didn’t materialize like I’d hoped.
bummer man.
i bet that would have been a great experience
Good evening, BB. Just got my H/W-S set on my doorstep, throwing it on whilst fixing dinner. Cactus sounds just like Mr. Hankey from South Park on Emotional Rescue. Can’t get the visual out of my head.
On another note, that Miles release is fucking incredible. Blows my Live at the Plugged Nickel box away.
I’d still like to get my hands on a smaller body OOO, but I’m concerned the bottom end may be too shallow…
lol Tzara’s
I grew up on a OO Fender acoustic my father bought me for my 8th b-day
Definitely on your side on the song part, @eldude. The jam is a good way to start a show though.
Hello Comrades.
Steelers getting stepped on if opening drive.
@MIA- my guitar room became baby room. Sort of cool actually… my axes hanging in the new kids room. I wish I had a telecaster in my first room.
trucks don’t need no stinkin’ picks
Dear god, never buy a “Hot Rod” fender. Use the same money on an old Showman or Bandmaster. Hell get a Princeton and swap tbhe speaker baffle so you can put a 12″ in it. The Hot Rods are total monkey crotch in comparison.
no he don’t!
you’re probably right plord!
but Soldano’s and Marshall’s are pricey. The old saying goes “you get what you pay for”
Nice Spasm, I like it. My guitar room is where I would have a baby room. If they were that easy when you turn 40.
Duder’s dream Fender.
