Shipping Balls!

Book Cover (Masthay)

Ever since the books were delivered around noon yesterday, I’ve been shipping my face off and haven’t been able to accomplish anything else. I’ve been workin’ round the clock to get all holiday orders out the door by tomorrow. The only exceptions to these will be international orders—I will have to deal with those separately; I apologize for the delay. Anyhow, look for the book in the mail soon! I’ll see you on the other side!

UPDATE: Any domestic orders placed by the 12/5 holiday deadline have been shipped as of 12/17. The rest of the books will begin shipping Monday. I will be in touch with international orders individually regarding postage. Thanks for your support! Can’t wait ’til you get em! MSG is lurking in the shadows…

MONDAY UPDATE: Any domestic orders places through December 13th have processed and will be shipped out today. The remainder of the domestic orders should be out the door tomorrow, and at the latest, Wednesday. I’ve been too busy packing to type thoughts, but I’m getting excited at this point…9 days…

Well Steely Dan was totally doing it cynically which to me just feels a little different

round about 1974 they just went “okay…so you radio guys like this glossy, overproduced sound? we can totally do that” and started stacking the gold and platinum records

and Queen, man, Queen was just from a different planet. It’s funny cause a lot of their songs are the kind of thing, stylistically, I generally hate. But I love that band.

  2. MrCompletely Says:

Dan were also the masters of the lyric that seems light and poppy on the surface but is actually darkly cynical when you look a little closer

combined with their production style…it’s like a dagger hidden in a candy cane

  3. MrCompletely Says:

    awesome…for NYC peeps

  4. albert walker Says:

    Professional players making rock music

Def not typical rock musicians. Higher level pop rock. Jazz rock pop. Some killer tracks for sure

  5. albert walker Says:

I was trying to think of the band in my own collection that personified what I hate about mid 70s rock and queen came to mind first

Another set of next level rock guys though

  6. MrCompletely Says:

and yet at the same time I never argue with anyone who hates Steely Dan

cause just listen to it (the later, big hits stuff)

it sounds like everything a lot of people rightly hate in music

to be honest I probably like it for the same reason I like some of those Graceland tracks…

I got laid to it in high school = it must be awesome

all the “reasons” I have might be valid but I’m not sure they’re meaningful

  7. MrCompletely Says:

yeah it seems like most people who really know their music in a higher level way tend to agree that Freddie was the best male rock vocalist there’s ever been so that’s kind of an outlier to start with

  8. MrCompletely Says:

although I know you are a big collector of Dr. Hook vinyl @aw

    that stuff’s pretty groundbreaking too

  9. bob dylan Says:

overshare on the getting head while playing the mix and reading the book AW

but seriously, you made me feel better about waiting for the book signing to get it. post show will be a good time to crack it open.

C, thats a cool site. time warp over here.

  10. MrCompletely Says:

(growing up I confused Dr. Hook with Dr. Teeth from the Muppets)

  11. DaNcInG fOoL Says:

@bob dylan, did you see the pic of you that was posted today??

  12. DaNcInG fOoL Says:

Mr. C has never seen Repulsion.

  13. MrCompletely Says:

hilarious, I forgot even Dr. Hook (the epitome of bad 70s soft rock) didn’t start off that way, “Freakin’ at the Freaker’s Ball” is from their first album

the 70s were a confusing time

  14. MrCompletely Says:

I haven’t read Jerry Sandusky’s books on defensive strategy in college football either. I hear they are excellent!

  15. MrCompletely Says:

anyone who can read a book while getting head is operating at a different level than I

peace, all. big game comin’ up

  16. Mr palmer Says:

Would never consciously put $1 in Polanski’s pocket. Fuck that freak.

Queen is great. Watched a concert of there’s on Palladia last week and was blown away. 4 piece band that tips. Brian May shreds.

  17. Mr palmer Says:

IPhone’d ^^^. Sorry for the typos.

  18. gavinsdad Says:

fan of the dan here no doubt

  19. BingosBrother Says:

New video of Pac getting head in the middle of a party whilst spittin rhymes, drinkin on Hen, and puffin a B came out recently. Top Level.

  20. gavinsdad Says:

so so many quality dan songs. summer of 88 was sponsored by pretzel logic and countdown to ecstasy and katy lied. we used to drive to the dimebag spot from northern nj to 94th st in manhattan. round trip would be an hour depending on GWB traffic. get the shit, hit the bodega for big bambus, pull over to the side on 96th, roll the gorilla finger and blaze it on the way back with a mess of nicks or dimes for all the kids waiting for us at whatever house we were hanging out at. all with “they call alabama the crimson tide/they call me deacon blues” blasting as our soundtrack. did that almost every single day that summer. one of us made the run. we learned more Dan that summer than any other summer. shouts to rob antonelli and chris gunther.

  21. gavinsdad Says:

God Street Wine did quality covers of Brooklyn and Any Major Dude taboot.

    Percy Hill anyone?

  22. gavinsdad Says:

though Gaucho, babylon sisters, and time out of mind are my top three Dan tunes in no particular order

  23. Mr.Miner Says:

so kaveh and jtran got it, anyone else? I’v’e been dying to hear what someone other than my designer, editor, and wife think…any thoughts?…you can be honest. If its a bit much, its a bit much… 😉

  24. Mr palmer Says:

    Not yet.

  25. Jtran Says:

I’m not allowed to open it even though 1. I ordered it and 2. I know what it is. Have to wait until the first night of Hannukah tomorrow (women always win).

All I know so far is that it is HEAVY. The pictures made it look big, but I never realized it’d be THIS big. Suffice to say I’m sure psyched for tomorrow night.
