TTFF: Relics of ’98

Denver 2011

This Friday’s playlist is composed of jams from a different era. All of the songs featured today have taken a back seat during the modern era of Phish, but were once central jam vehicles. I decided to pluck stellar versions from 1998 to add cohesion to the selections. Enjoy the tunes today and through the weekend!

You gotta pray for a Greece default after bondholders talks fall apart

Are futures up huge on the Apple print?

Those were the numbers of all numbers they busted. I’m a bit fearful of how the euro recession picking up steam in 2H knocking us down but peeps be gettin bulled up near term it seems.

    UIC 1
    1/1
    Greek 3
    Alpine 10 1

Probably my favs I caught from a flow perspective

Bethel 1 and 2 flowed well too

  4. albert walker Says:

3.0 is all about sbix storage. Just straight mind bending experimental psychedelia. Still can’t believe that was 3.0 phish

They should tour in that box as the storage band.

  5. kayatosh Says:

good to hear from ya, aw. that’s my take. i think europe is still messy and this business about decoupling is bunk. the world is inextricably linked.

Futures look tame. AMD stunk it up and yahoo was lackluster. IWM (russel 2k) was hot all day. I am way behind on my short IWM trade but am giving it another day or two to get right. I added to the short AH right into the apple surge. appl cooling off somewhat here.

greece is small but emblematic of the growing crisis in europe. yes, the ECB greased the wheels in the short term but there is a big funding gap and someone’s got to pay.

    aapl cannot carry the economy.

    love UIC 1

  10. sumodie Says:

where was the storage during MSG?

    In storage, waiting till 2012

  11. albert walker Says:

It’s not the economy kaya but its a heavily owned real stock that just destroyed their print

Everyone in our office took that as a maybe were to bearish sign

Several semi companies say their bottoming and intc looked great

I’m more bullish near term but more bearish 2H

I’ve been buying gold and some equities. They printing in Europe has just begun. We will not stand for dollar strength. Race to the bottom eur vs dollar

We look good though. Housing jobs a lot of better data. I really feel this collision of us gaining steam and Europe in recession will Def play out but could be months.

As small as Greece is a disorderly default would get a bit messy. People will look to it for a model on how Portugal plays out next. Another small problem. Italy is the true disaster

  12. kayatosh Says:

love the hyperbole, palmer. i am not short aapl thankfully. short the r2k. will still probably take a gut wrenching body blow tomorrow. trading makes me drink.

What’s up BB? Holding down the fort at my shop tonight but there are no customers so I’m 5 beers down and spinning 10/16/10 first set.

  15. [Not Tom] Says:

speaking of stock – the shares of AAPL that I’ve been holding since May of 2007 sure jumped tonight.

  16. Mike in Austin Says:

    Calamity Joe.

    http://www.zerohedge.com/news/art-cashin-calamity-joe-granville-and-january-23-market-top

The Dow is only 30 companies. They are specifically placed in the Dow for political reasons, not “economic” reasons. The Dow isn’t an apt reflection of the business activity in the United States. Funny, that AAPL isn’t even in the Dow. And it’s a market capitalization weighted index.

Apple’s Year end equivalent CASH on hand is $97.6 Billion.

The only catastrophe on anyone’s radar is (as AW pointed out) all out cascading defaults of companies in the Eurozone of Europe. If there is a bunch of Credit Default Insurance on these bonds, and they are held by US based companies (Morgan Stanley I’m looking at you) and a major issuing bank of CDS (Société Générale I’m looking at you) fails, then, like in 2008, the “net” is that a major banks takes down all the other banks. That would be bad.

But, I can assure you, that will never happen. The Federal Reserve will wring their hands, and hate to break it to the American People, but they will have to Bail out Europe. And the Fed will ship them another 2-4 Trillion dollars.

Dominoes don’t fall anymore. I’d bet on that.

  17. Mr. Palmer Says:

This is pretty sweet 17 + minutes of music. Wowzers.

On Broadway – Psychedelic Guitar Circus – GAMH – San Francisco, CA – 8.1.93

    http://youtu.be/CPzMaHYy66g

  20. kayatosh Says:

That’s what everyone is betting on — that the trouble is in the rear-view mirror and that mrkts. have been insulted from credit defaults and such. I say not so fast.

  21. Mike in Austin Says:

I should refresh before posting sometimes.

  22. butter Says:

Freddie Roulette linked above is the steel pedal guitar player in Psychedelic Guitar Circus

  23. BingosBrother Says:

“that’s how grandma’s boy is for me. ”

    You’re dead to me lumpyhead.

  24. [Not Tom] Says:

Hey Butter – how’s life with the little kiddo?

  25. albert walker Says:

Now we got s gs alum with his finger on the printing press now

This backdoor LTRO euro print is comical. They’re ashamed to just print in the open like helicopter Ben.
