Three Eras of Tube”

6.6.09 - Great Woods (Graham Lucas)

Today we take a glimpse at three generations of “Tube.” Enjoy. And if you need more “Tubes” to listen to when you are done with this sample size, check out some others here. Have a great Thursday!

7.16.98 II, George, WA

This wide-open funk jam oozes with the sound of the Gorge. Over-sized, chunky bass lines anchor this version as Trey adds all sorts of wah-groove into the mix. Trey then set some loops as Page sculpts the sound alongside him, adding a whole different, cathartic ambiance to the music. Returning to an extended series of slamming, whole-band grooves, this Gorge version has always been one of my go-to favorites

2.22.03 II, Cincinnati, OH

This explosive version kicked off one of the marquee sets of February ‘03’s comeback tour at The Crown in Cincinnati. Both Trey and Page stood out in a jam that moves far beyond anything we’ve heard recently. This furious rendition took over the entire arena, whose roar you can hear in multiple mid-jam peaks. Fishman keeps a driving, cymbal-heavy beat chugging for the duration of this best-of-the-post-hiatus era “Tube.”

6.18.09 I, Burgettstown, PA

Though its Star Lake show was nothing spectacular, this first set “Tube” remains the most significant of the modern era. Page’s takes an extended clav solo as Trey comps him with a diversity of rhythm patterns and pitch-bent notes. Trey then moves on, hitting some high-octave lead lines before the band comes back together in swanky groove and the final verse of the song.

@Kaveh Congrats on the win last night. I’m still not prepared to talk about it. Needless to say I’m not looking forward to seeing Rivers shot over Zeller for years to come before every NC/Duke game.

@Robear I may have to check out that Greensky show in Birmingham. And then they play on my bday in CLT. That might be a sign.

  2. Guyute711 Says:

Seriously, Wowee Zowee is fucking awesome. I can’t believe I haven’t listened to this in forever.

“Needless to say I’m not looking forward to seeing Rivers shot over Zeller for years to come before every NC/Duke game.”

    ::experiences vertigo, stomach tightness::

  4. Kaveh Says:

@verno329. Thanks; a big win. But more importantly, let’s see how both teams respond to it. A long way to go.

  5. BTB Says:

Had no idea Trey changed the name of Let Me Lie!!! Sounds appropriate, no?

  6. halcyon Says:

Wish I was an Apple shareholder right now. Stock has been killing it lately. Up 130 since November.

  7. InAMinute Says:

Huge win from the Orange last night, but damn that was one ugly, albeit exciting game…

As for Tube’s, love the Dayton 97 mini Tube-prise after the rocking Tube. THis Cincy Tube is nasty.

    Where are the Bethel dates!?!?

  8. Robear Says:

Apple stock is a joke. Sitting on billions in cash while people jump out windows due to working conditions.

Eliminate the stock market. Distribute the wealth to workers. Watch economy explode.

  9. tela'smuff Says:

hard to pin down a best Antelope of 3.0. there have been some good ones, but nothing stands out above all the rest. the Gorge version seems to be my go to Lope due to the teases.

  10. verno329 Says:

    Boogielope Tela’s, Boogielope

  11. Guyute711 Says:

Very ugly Orange win. Sometimes you have to gut one out and hopefully learn from it.

  12. InAMinute Says:

Incredible that Derrick COleman filed for bankruptcy a few years back…dude made 80+ Million in NBA salary. Sad. Also, 3.0 Light…isn’t that redundant?

  13. Type III Jamming Personality Disorder Says:

I think ND holds the title for ugliest win last night.

up 26-16 at half (yes, it was as bad as that score indicates), give up 12 point lead to trail with two minutes left, hit three straight 3s to take back game after going 2-18 before that (wvu was 2-16 themselves in the game). also, allowed turkish monolith to hit no less than three sweeping hook shots.

flipping between that game and the unc/dook tilt was comical in how bad the play was in comparison.

but a win is a win is a win. second place, baby.

  14. HarryHood Says:

    @ BTB

Let Me Die…… Priceless! and very fitting.

  15. albert walker Says:

Utica Antelope is the goods. hands down 3.0 fav IMO

  16. tela'smuff Says:

    good point InAMinute, ha.

forgot about that one @verno. thx.

  17. Multibeast Says:

Great dead show from today’s date, which featured the live debut of 7 songs (Eyes of the World, China Doll, Here Comes Sunshine, Row Jimmy, Loose Lucy, TLEO, Wave that Flag):

  18. tela'smuff Says:

shit, you’re right AW. that was the first one in 3.0 that really had that filthy energy. nice.

  19. jdub Says:

Utica Lope is pure fire for sure. Might have to revisit that show soon.

  20. albert walker Says:

all NBA players go bankrupt thats what they do

    so did Busey apparently

  21. Multibeast Says:

Agree’d AW….Utica lope is the business, love the gorge version. Tease fest similar to the Bowie that proceeded the Utica lope.

  22. RoosterPizza Says:

Hhood in the house. How’s the new office working out?

  23. verno329 Says:

Thanks for the pampage Multi. Will definitely spin this today.

  24. albert walker Says:
