TTFM: An International Encore

Tokyo 2000 Flier

Until we have something to talk about, let’s keep the thematic playlists rolling. A lot of people enjoyed Friday’s international flavor, so let’s take another dip into Phish jams from foreign lands to open up this week. Today’s selections contain some real heavy hitters to ease the transition back into the week. Enjoy the tunes, and by all means, “Read the book!

Stash” 7.2.97 II, Amsterdam, NL

Though its tough for me to separate this jam from its set—a frame of non-stop, top-notch Phish—this “Stash” flirts with Phish’s finest pieces ever.

Ghost” 6.15.00 II, Osaka, JP

Phish followed Radio City’s all-time rendition with this “Ghost” from Osaka—another mammoth version. Enojy Kenny Powers’ remaster.

Piper -> Makisupa” 7.6.98 II, Prague, CZ

One of the first fully blown-out “Pipers,” the improvisational centerpiece of the show. A stunning jam that had the audience in awe all the way to Barcelona.

Halley’s Comet > Roggae” 7.10.98 II, Barcelona, ES

After an aborted opening set due to sound issues, Phish came out and threw down this lasting, funked-out highlight from the last night of Europe ’98

Down With Disease” 6.15.00 II, Osaka, JP

Another creative monstrosity from Japan 2000.

Harry Hood > Izabella” 7.9.98 II, Barcelona, ES

Phish reprise the “Drowned” progression within this “Hood” then blow out its peak, bringing this Barcelona version into Hendrix’s “Izabella.” Note the whole crowd World  Cup-based “Ole!” chant after the set closer.

  2. HYHU Says:

Being a Canadian Phish fan I would love to see the boys phinally make a triumphant return north of the border at the home of the most successful sports franchise on the planet, but the Bell Center? In the summer? Don’t see it happening. As always, thx for the tunes Miner. Happy Monday all.

@Miner – thanks again for the tunes; great way to start the day.

Saw The Darkness last night; great time.

  8. Wilson123 Says:

Thanks for another international playlist, Miner. Some of my favorite shows took place overseas.

Really itching for some dates…hopefully soon.

  9. GhostDog Says:

    Sick Halley’s…

    Underrated.

  10. Robear Says:

BB Massive, we need some council this morning.

My ex wife just dropped a bomb on the fam this weekend. She decided she’s moving…..not to the coast, to be closer to daughters school, but to New Hampshire.

She wants me to have the kids for school, with her for summer and holidays. My daughter is crushed. Who does that? Only in the movies. We can’t afford to fly the kids back and forth all the time. Also, have no idea how to get special needs son back and forth.

And no, I’m not moving to NH. Beautiful place, with nothing happening for me.

Anyone know any fams that do this?

  11. verno329 Says:

Damn Robear, sorry to hear that. Don’t have any personal experience I can share but you are in my thoughts.

  12. Phamily Berzerker Says:

  13. Kaveh Says:

Bon Iver is stellar. He has been talked about on here over the last month or so.

  14. Phamily Berzerker Says:

That is horsecrap, huggiebear! Sorry hombre.

She needs your explicit approval and you can fight it should you opt to do so.

  15. Phamily Berzerker Says:

yeah kaveh I know iust saw that stuff and had to laugh, ‘new artist’

  16. joemeg Says:

Wow Robear, that’s quite the bomb to be dropped on you. I don’t know any fams with that type of situation.

There may be nothing happening in NH for you, but Maine is great, “the way life should be.” And we have medical here.

  17. Robear Says:

What towns in Maine are near Ossipee, Nh?

  18. HarryHood Says:

    @ Robear

As you know all too well from my previous posts/e-mails, I’m no stranger to dealing with a woman who makes irrational decisions with no regard to others who are impacted by the fallout. If there is anything I can do to help, even if it’s just to lend an ear, you know how to get in touch……. And if it comes down to you moving, let me say that aside from the cold winters, VT/NH is a wonderful place to raise a family….

  19. kayatosh Says:

robear: hard stuff. I salute you for keeping it together. i would rip apart at the seams.

Is there any way you can negotiate/compromise with her? Doesn’t she realize the strain this will put on the kids? Have you given NH fair consideration? (I enjoyed Lake Winnipesaukee as a youth. gorgeous).

bottom line: you have friends and you will prevail.

  20. kayatosh Says:

east coast would be glad to have you.

  21. HarryHood Says:

    Robear,

There are some places in Maine that aren’t far from there that are really nice. It’s within an hour drive of where I vacation in the summer. Like I said, if it comes down to you moving, it’s honestly not a bad place to be.

  22. HarryHood Says:

I just looked a Google Maps and Ossipee, NH is actually a pretty convienent East Coast location. A few hours from Burlington, VT, A few hours from Boston to the south or Montreal to the north. An hour from Portland, ME…… And the area itself is very very rural…….

  23. kayatosh Says:

    Robear’s going bi-coastal
    his ole lady went postal

Can see him now, chillin by the campfire
One cool summer night in good ole New Hampshire

  24. voopa Says:

Wow Robear, words fail me. I know some cool folks at Dartmouth, but that’s a ways a way.

At the beginning of the Prague Piper Trey sounds like he’s quoting that old 70’s tune that has “look around you” in the lyrics somewhere…can’t remember who sang it, what the rest of the song is like or anything, but Piper sounds just like that song at that moment, and when Trey hits those 4 notes I get totally deja vue’d. Anyone know what I’m talking about?

  25. joemeg Says:

I’m like 20 minutes from Ossipee, NH in a town called West Newfield. Not really a town, just a Post Office and gas station/convenience store.

I go to the Supermarket in either Ossipee or Sanford, ME. Also, North Conway, NH is about a half hour away from Ossippee
