TTFF: Phish2k—Summer Tour
The Summer of 2000—moving from Tokyo, Japan to Columbus, Ohio—represented Phish’s last true push of creative music. Though the band’s playing in Japan was on another level than in the states, the band, nonetheless, cranked through a solid summer tour—their last until 2003. Once the fall came, Phish shows turned less consistently creative, and standout jams came less frequently as the band moved towards hiatus. Today’s playlist features some of the tour’s lesser known jams to go along with a couple fan favorites, all arranged chronologically as they came in the Summer of 2000. Enjoy ten more tunes as the wait for summer dates continues!

“Piper” 6.10.00 I, Tokyo, JP
The only “Piper” of Japan happened in a big way in the first set of Tokyo’s second show.

“Theme -> Dog Faced Boy” 6.16.00 II, Osaka, JP
This unfinished “Theme” followed a massive “Runaway Jim” (featured last week) in the band’s final show in the far east.

“Tweezer” 6.24.00 I, Atlanta, GA
This sunset “Tweezer” from Lakewood is one of my personal favorites.

“Bathtub Gin” 6.28.00 I, Holmdel, NJ
A spectacular and triumphant version that Trey leads to the mountaintop.

“Birds -> Catapult > Heavy Things” 6.29.00 II, Holmdel, NJ
Phish dropped this stellar piece of improv to open the final set of PNC’s two night stand. The dark and twisted “Birds” jam has hints of Coltrane’s “A Love Supreme” laced throughout .

“Ghost” 7.1.00 II, Hartford, CT
This scorching, second-set closing “Ghost” snuck in the door at the last minute to highlight the show.
[audio:http://phishthoughts.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/02/Track-02-3.mp3]***
“Limb by Limb -> 2001” 7.6.00 II, Toronto, ON
A dark horse combo that got things moving after setbreak in a quick stop north of the border.
[audio:http://phishthoughts.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/02/Limb-By-Limb-_.mp3,http://phishthoughts.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/02/Also-Sprach-Zarathustra.mp3]***
“Split Open and Melt” 7.7.00 II, Burgettstown, PA
Though not with the unbridled fury of 1994, Phish could still rip a serious “Melt” in 2000. Can they still?
[audio:http://phishthoughts.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/02/Split-Open-And-Melt.mp3]***
“Mike’s Song” 7.14.00 II, Columbus, OH
A driving and sinister jam transforms into beauty, representing one of the last—if not the final—versions of “Mike’s” with two jams.
[audio:http://phishthoughts.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/02/Track-04-5.mp3]***
“Down With Disease -> WMMGW” 7.15.00 II, Columbus, OH
Summer’s dramatic “farewell jam” came at the top of the second set, while sliding smoothly and unexpectedly into “While My Guitar Gently Weeps.”

Once again I went with the FOB mk41 pull for Phil 3 that Palmer linked above. It is brighter sounding than the mk22 cmc6 source (didn’t try the mk4 cmc6 source)
Happy Prez Day
I’ve DL’ed the MK4’s Sumo and will report back later
I’m just stoking the fire, El Dude. We haven’t had a decent team in so long we are just a little excited. Heat in Miami on thursday, true test.
Why is it that all of Melo’s teams are better without him then????-just sayin’
I know and I’m giving it right back 😉
Bulls -vs- Hawks today @ 3:00pm
You know of Melo being on three teams. Syracuse, Denver, and the Knicks. Which team is better without him?
federal holiday bitches
rolled out of bed got some soul diesel wax on the nail and opened up miners phish thoughts book for some summer 95 picks
2 shows I was at but no memory of
7/1/95 hood and Stash> strange design
7/2/95 Runaway > makisupa
wow they used to be able to peak out those hoods. no type II, no plinko just sick ass full band improv. listening to this some of my Trey hate needs to be dropped on Fish. damn that cat could swing back then.
amazing hood.
Good point dude. I’m a little worried about Melo coming back. But Linsanity is going to change that.
All of ’em G$$$
Sugarbush ’95 brah-nuff said
Nail… yeah, that’s what she said
Chuck D was droppin the knowledge on twitter last night about how there were only athletes in the NBA these days and no players
how everybody wants to be MJ without the background fundamentals and couple years college education.
seems like Chuck is drinkin the LIN kool aid too
Lin is gonna have to work on his ball handling skills this coming off season.
You have to be able to dribble well in this NBA league
Hey all!
@Palmer is correct. D. rose is the new Iverson. Bulls the new Sixers.
Got a copy of Miner’s book yesterday signed and all…
Thnx Leo for the very fine b-day gift-love it!
@ Robear
D.Rose is nothing like AI- Dude, pull a tube and rethink.
they do need one scorer no doubt but the team D in a leage of defenseless hot dogs gives Bulls an edge
wish they weren’t kinda forced into that Boozer deal. even though he has been better this season I hate that fucker.
they don’t even need another huge scorer just one more piece to bring in some consistent points.
Rose needs to protect himself a bit more to. kids always hurt. only plays half the season it seems.
I love D. Rose. I wouldn’t go that far, but the point is made.
7/1/95 Stash > Strange Design
holy fuck that’s that soupy aggro psychedelia this some is known for.
morning all. great picks here, miner. love some 2000
gave P&F a cursory spin, and I’m still in the traditionalist camp — I’ll stick w/ the good ole GD sbds. Listening time is finite and there’s lot of awesome GD and phish to consider.
spinning 5.7.80 Feel Like a Stranger now — one of my fave bobby tunes along with esau and black throated wind. I’m a stranger fanatic.
Lin thoughts: Dude is fast and super poised. His poise and calm make his shot unhurried and smooth. The poise comes from not putting any pressure on himself. He figures his run with the Knicks is all gravy. Should his NBA star fade, he can fall back on his Harvard degree and kick ass in some other milieu.
We can all learn from SiLin in the Morning. If you reduce the pressure on yourself to zero, you are more likely to succeed.
Bulls won’t be able to beat Heat or Knicks in a 5 or 7 game series. Enjoy the perennial #3 spot Chicago fan.
Spin/DL this fella’s!!!
