Five Favorites From Summer ’95

Jones Beach — Summer '95

Tweezer” 6.14 II, Memphis, TN

The Mud Island “Tweezer,” a classic and personal favorite that—I feel—is captivating for the entire 50 minutes.

Runaway Jim -> Free” 6.15 II, Raleigh, NC

Phish took this doggie a long way from home in Walnut Creek, another classic rendition.

David Bowie” 6.24 II, Philadelphia, PA

In a summer that contained countless standout “Bowies,” this version from the Mann Music Center is among the elite.

Down With Disease -> Free” 6.26 II, S. Springs, NY

One of the finest sequences of music from a spectacular summer—a two-pronged, psychedelic monstrosity.

Stash” 6.17 II, Gainesville, VA

A mind-numbing version from that closed the first set on the fifth night of a five night run. And it wound up being the highlight of the show.

wow that’s interesting, aj. good thing you had someone to tell you what’s up.

yeah, i like a woman with some initiative and get up and go. bek plans a lot of what we do and i like it.

    Typically brunette, Phoamm

but sometimes the Viking blood sneaks through the Gaelic and your red and blonde lasses happen

Talkative/outgoing types are usually the most compatible for me

Im slightly introverted and often worried about others’ feelings

and I think I need the type that constantly expresses so I know just where she stands

  3. phoammhead Says:

    cheers, aj. laterz.

gotcha, silly. it’s interesting that there are all sorts, shapes and sizes . . . makes for an amazing ride in this life . . . ups and downs . . . good points and bad points.

One last thing that was weird – I gave a speech to students at BYU yesterday and they were all amazing – Chinese was outstanding, super nice, etc. College kids. Then afterwards I was talking to them and realized that a) they had all lived abroad on mission, b) were all married and c) many already had multiple kids. But not in a white trash kind of way. Weird place, this Utah.

  6. SillyWilly Says:

    people are super fun.

  7. SillyWilly Says:

    I grew up in Utah.

Nice place to visit, but I wouldn’t want to be a young adult there (18 to whenever you feel comfortable in your place in life) because it’s closed-minded

not in a mean or overpowering way, but in a constant, real, and eventually oppressive way

my parents are Catholic and they had no friends. It was tough on them, but no one was gonna have a whiskey with my dad or a coffee with my mom

have a lot of great friends who are Mormon, though. Just like anything else, people are just people

it’s just when so many people are the same people, if you see what I mean

  8. garretc Says:

Yeah AJ, no coincidence that one of the only people from my high school class that’s already married goes to BYU…

    Married at 20, good god…

Robear says I should look into borrowing the book he got you, any chance of that going down? Pretty please with a cherry on top?

  9. garretc Says:

Dang, that move from Twist > Piper from Dick’s is so slick!

Also, always a good sign when you’re heading to the slopes and there’s snow both in the air and on the ground an hour sooner into the trip than you usually run into it!

  10. phoammhead Says:

i’m not convinced portsmouth gets 2 shows, either

  13. sumodie Says:

My bro had the same experience in China. He came home solo but his aussie friend got snagged by a Chinese woman who was a major control freak

  14. gavinsdad Says:

  17. Robear Says:

Keep going dub. Heading to stereo now.

Garrett, truth be told, I have two wishes from Red Light:
    1) Leg 1 East to West, Leg 2 West to East
    2) a three night run anywhere out west (In addition to any 3 nighter in Co.)

  18. Spasm Waiter Says:

    Hey gang

  20. Robear Says:

Some of those are pretty accurate, I think Telas. That’s not the official Phish deal though.

    Creative photoshop.

  21. tela'smuff Says:

    yeah, i figured as much.

  22. Mr.Miner Says:

those look pretty, pretty, pretty good.

  23. tela'smuff Says:

miner – do you have any firm dates or venues on West Coast? i really hate this Leg II delayed announcement tactic. it reeks.

  24. gavinsdad Says:

i’m with you @telas…from a wife aggravation, family alienation standpoint i could do AC, possibly think of a merriweather or a JB, OR do AC up front and wait for a nice 3 pack out west in aug. i’d prefer the latter so i can space things out more…

  25. tela'smuff Says:

i have some factors that limit my ability to hit as many shows as i’d like, so i want to pick one fun road trip type of thing, like Shoreline>Gorge. so it would be nice to see the whole tour at once so i can make my plans for the summer.
