Five Favorites From Summer ’95

Jones Beach — Summer '95

Tweezer” 6.14 II, Memphis, TN

The Mud Island “Tweezer,” a classic and personal favorite that—I feel—is captivating for the entire 50 minutes.

Runaway Jim -> Free” 6.15 II, Raleigh, NC

Phish took this doggie a long way from home in Walnut Creek, another classic rendition.

David Bowie” 6.24 II, Philadelphia, PA

In a summer that contained countless standout “Bowies,” this version from the Mann Music Center is among the elite.

Down With Disease -> Free” 6.26 II, S. Springs, NY

One of the finest sequences of music from a spectacular summer—a two-pronged, psychedelic monstrosity.

Stash” 6.17 II, Gainesville, VA

A mind-numbing version from that closed the first set on the fifth night of a five night run. And it wound up being the highlight of the show.

happy b-day Tzara! keep in touch in re: to west coast run.

@Gd – i’m a big fan of the Port Wipeout IPA.

hit Oskar’s Breweries Tasty Weasel tasting room for the release party of the Deviant Dale’s IPA in 16 ounce cans! both me and Stapes did some damage and ended the evening sampling our first 4-pack. nothing like a dank IPA buzz if beer drinkin is your thing.

  7. Spasm Waiter Says:

IPA talk has me geetting thirsty. 2 days ago, my mom came to visit armed with 6 packs of 60 minute Dogfish and 16 Mile Inlet IPA. Dank IPA buzz achieved.

  8. tzara's Says:

Thanks, guys. Had a nice dinner with a couple friends. Had a couple wines I made at my old job. Now it’s Ninkasi IPA out of Eugene and the best Reuben in the city.

AJ, If you do go, tell those hackers at Shanghai MUHE games that they suck donkey balls for hacking my iTunes account.

  11. mike in austin Says:

Finished Season 4 of Breaking Bad, and I gotta say, that is one damn fine show.

  12. BingosBrother Says:

That dude was in a good movie I saw last night. Drive. Had a real 80’s feel to it. Excellent until the end. Didn’t like the way it finished.

  13. stapes Says:

I think it might be time for a Deviant Dales IPA. These 16 oz cans could be trouble. Wow.

    Couch, beer, Mountain Gazette, tunes.

Then heading to Denver tonight for dinner. First night of Denver Restaurant Week.

Mmmmm a rueben sounds bomb right about now!

    Happy B-Day Tzara’s!!!

  14. stapes Says:

Is Breaking Bad 4 out on DVD yet? Can’t wait to get it via Netflix.

  15. Mike in Austin Says:

No stapes, but I have all the eps in 720p HD. Send me a stick or drive and I’ll send it to ya. But it only took me a day on the ‘noid.

  16. phoammhead Says:

shiva ipa and 2nd half of tarheels

  17. angryjoggerz Says:

Just came home to the BOOK! Damn, that is a big book. No inscription, oh well. I did not qualify as a long time poster.

Now Apple India has contacted me, and told me that they are making an exception, because most “in app purchases are final according to their terms and conditions” Um. A company, illegally hacked my phone, and withdrew money, and you allowed this company/person from CHINA to access my account? And withdraw $50 from it?

Amerian Express never would have let that kinda of charge happen. And they should pull the App Immediately from their store. It’s obviously a scam.

Then they gave me $5.03 less than the app took out and disabled my ID, even though I’ve already changed the password.

I get why they only want this account stuff to be from the Internet, and from India.

    No help at all.

last nite was at my hideout…a harpoon ipa and a yards brawler…but i noticed the drunk women having “dudebombs”…Three Olives Dude vodka and redbull. GNAR.

i like that sixpoint rocks the 16 oz cans. you get mad at the 4 pack price then realize it’s a total of 5 cans at a decent abv and stop hatin.

    10.20.94 hood is the medicine.

think i got a few shows each year 94 and 95. still pretty jealous of all your tour kids/college kids from that era. i was really green in recovery those first couple of years and finishing a college degree in s. florida so wasn’t making any grand travel plans at the time. still woulda liked some more live phish at that time.

  20. Mr. Palmer Says:

    Dear Aj,

    Merry Christmas.

    there you go… 😉

  21. phoammhead Says:

i wish i had been even more into phish and less dead back in early to mid 90s but dead brought me to phish . . . so alls well that ends well

  22. gavinsdad Says:

still like my OG bliss tunes: reba, hood.

still like my OG shredding jam: antelope.

those are my trinity. there is ALOT of tweezer love here and amongst the fanbase and i’ve come to respect it quite a bit more in 3.0 than the quintessential phish song i always labeled it as. much has to do with more exposure to old versions and Miner posting sick sick versions of it.

said this a year ago but the tune that’s really phishy to me is The Wedge…then really anything from Junta cause those tunes were my entry point and also capture the spirit of phishiness to me: div sky, foam, esther, yem, daam, bowie, contact. all of them are archetypical phish to me.

looking at it now Foam might even trump The Wedge. Wedge makes me feel really good tho and Foam makes me acid scared.

  23. angryjoggerz Says:

That would have been an epic inscription, actually. Too funny.

  24. gavinsdad Says:

rambling…but i saw 10/21/94…sunrise fla…one day after this louisville Hood show it just dawns on me…i was listening to the crowd hoot and holler on this Hood in louisville and remembered how electric the Sunrise show was and how blown away i was at the size of the place and how many people were “on tour”…i remember leaning over to a kid next to me and asking what Simple was and him being really stoked on the handful he’d seen since that fall tour started. i was blown away that a kid that young had already done a few solid weeks of phish tour.

    (STOPS AND REALIZES…Hey Miner…this 10/20/94 Hood is actually St. Petersburg FL…not Louisville…FYI)

btw there is a beauty of a classic 94 reba from that 10/18/94 pelham AL show. years back charlie dirksen liquidated his cassette tape collection and i bought a lot from him…that reba was on one of the tapes…it got many a listen.

  25. gavinsdad Says:

^putting my exchange with the kid in perspective..i was a year and a half outta rehab and all of 25 years old. this “kid” was 19 or so…
