Five Favorites From Summer ’95

Jones Beach — Summer '95

Tweezer” 6.14 II, Memphis, TN

The Mud Island “Tweezer,” a classic and personal favorite that—I feel—is captivating for the entire 50 minutes.

Runaway Jim -> Free” 6.15 II, Raleigh, NC

Phish took this doggie a long way from home in Walnut Creek, another classic rendition.

David Bowie” 6.24 II, Philadelphia, PA

In a summer that contained countless standout “Bowies,” this version from the Mann Music Center is among the elite.

Down With Disease -> Free” 6.26 II, S. Springs, NY

One of the finest sequences of music from a spectacular summer—a two-pronged, psychedelic monstrosity.

Stash” 6.17 II, Gainesville, VA

A mind-numbing version from that closed the first set on the fifth night of a five night run. And it wound up being the highlight of the show.

Those dates Tela linked suck cause there’s no woosta. Always the chance the band will rehearse at the Centrum but not publicly play there -boo!

bearito, those AC dates are most legit of all based on the info published in the AC Press articles -should hear this coming week

Do I smell? I smell home cookin’!

  7. sumodie Says:

Ah, missed Memphis. True or not there was a greenboard thread about the boys playing there. Doesn’t make sense to leave a 5 day gap between the Roo and AC. Adding Memphis still leaves an odd 3 day gap tho

I feel like a poker player evaluating his card strategy: Catching 3 ACs means passing on 2 JBs, but then SPAC is a must, so I drop nTelos…or…? So don’t know what’s possible right now even if those are the legit dates.

Not knowing Leg2 is a major monkey wrench but I’ve already assumed Labor Dick’s is happening and so is a can’t miss

Time to finish 4.20.01 Phil (PLQ). Very enjoyable but I’m ready to move back to the real thang

Miners book is outrageous. We are lucky this guy decided to contribute in the way he did when he did. I’ve learned much along the way.

  9. tela'smuff Says:

i actually have chewed on the idea of hitting Memphis, just so i can get back to Rendezvous. best ribs i’ve ever had.

  10. phoammhead Says:

i’m not buying 2 portsmouth dates and 2 mpp dates . . . something’s amiss . . . in addition to the AC shows, which is a lock, that seems like a lot of shows in the same general area

  11. Gavinsdad Says:

With u @phoamm. Way too saturated. 2 at star lake would even be too much. Perhaps NC gets another small taste instead of nTelas?

  12. phoammhead Says:

^nc . . . that’s what i’m hoping for. it occured to me that florida hasn’t had love since new years ’90 . . . that seems a stretch, though, in a lite touring year. it wouldn’t surprise me, though.

  13. phoammhead Says:

    *new years 2009

  14. Gavinsdad Says:

Those early dates showed Raleigh and lakewood

  15. Gavinsdad Says:

    Early fakes that is

Wish I had a seen a show down south in the 90’s. Granted, was spoiled with all the shows within a few hours drive of beantown, but never had the wherewithal or the balls to do more than drive to NOLA for Mardi Gras one year. The Dirty South always brought the swampy jamz.

  17. phoammhead Says:

hershey or somewhere in pa and ohio are starting to make more sense

  18. phoammhead Says:

wait . . . where is hershey . . east or west pa?

    maybe pittsburgh . . . that’s in west pa

  19. phoammhead Says:

i think it would be cool if they threw in a wildcard location . . . yeah, like memphis and somewhere else in a college town or something . . . old skool

Truth. I will never listen to phish the same way. and thanks to the BB Massive, music in general. Used to be more shaded to the lyrics, which is why I loved the Dead so much, and also phish(1 of a few it seems, mostly for the signposts and spiritual synchronicity). But this place has shaded me way over to the music side, where if the music is uninteresting, the lyrics have to be among the best ever.

Just picked up a poster reprint of 9/16/90. Our heroes look especially young and nerdy in it.

  22. ElJefe Says:

Bingo- did you see the scary pics of the boys posted yesterday. Fish man penis tuck particularly disturbing.

  23. BingosBrother Says:

No. Thankfully. i like these though.

  24. ElJefe Says:
