Five Favorites From Summer ’95

Jones Beach — Summer '95

Tweezer” 6.14 II, Memphis, TN

The Mud Island “Tweezer,” a classic and personal favorite that—I feel—is captivating for the entire 50 minutes.

Runaway Jim -> Free” 6.15 II, Raleigh, NC

Phish took this doggie a long way from home in Walnut Creek, another classic rendition.

David Bowie” 6.24 II, Philadelphia, PA

In a summer that contained countless standout “Bowies,” this version from the Mann Music Center is among the elite.

Down With Disease -> Free” 6.26 II, S. Springs, NY

One of the finest sequences of music from a spectacular summer—a two-pronged, psychedelic monstrosity.

Stash” 6.17 II, Gainesville, VA

A mind-numbing version from that closed the first set on the fifth night of a five night run. And it wound up being the highlight of the show.

Radiohead puts on amazing shows. Think there albums are overproduced? Think again, what you hear on albums you will hear live. Unbelievable textures in their music.

The Wall @ Yankee Stadium, that would be awesome. Caught The Division Bell tour there. That was incredible. Brain was melted at that show.

  3. Mr.Miner Says:

Saw Radiohead once. They are good. Going again in San Jose. Psyched for Spiritualized at The Fillmore, and def psyched for Trey in LA, despite all the haters on here…

  4. Robear Says:

Miner, if you need a chaperone, maybe I can do the LA symphony with you.

Little man might dig Radiohead show. Lots of bass and lights? Might look into special access tickets.

  11. Robear Says:

Your right, Miner. Indoors too smokey and intense for little man. Guess I’ll wait for the YouTube video. Shit. Tried getting job at Coachella. Didn’t try hard, but no avail.

  12. phoammhead Says:

  13. Robear Says:

If Phish plays Memphis, that will be 2 shows in Tennessee for Leg 1. When was the last time that happened?

  14. tzara's Says:

Put me on the Radiohead roll call too. Also psyched for Jeff Mangum (neutral milk hotel) and Of Montreal.

for the recent P&F shows human mic stand seems to be the man and since his initial torrents on etree, which are about 1gb per show, he now has lossless at about 4gigs per show . . . has anyone checked out these lossless, yet?

  19. halcyon Says:

I think the 4g shows are the 24b/92khz shows. The other ones are flac 16b/44khz.

  20. phoammhead Says:

    yeah, that’s right @#halcy . . . i guess their all lossless but the larger files are 24bit . . . big difference?

i’ll probably eventually download at least one and compare for myself, but i’m kinda lazy that way and wondered if any peeps around here have an opinion about them

  21. phoammhead Says:

    their = they’re doh!

  22. sumodie Says:

Phish played 3 shows in TN during 2009, not 2 😉

As for Broomfield Phil, the human mic stand pulls are great – I only spin them in lossless (which is both 16bit, like CDs, and 24bit)

24 bit recordings contain more information and therefore more sound, but it’s unlikely you’ll hear a difference unless you’ve got a swank setup

  23. halcyon Says:

Unless you have a really nice hi-fi system and equipment that can play 24/92 (iPod doesn’t for example), you may not find that much of an auditory difference.

  24. phoammhead Says:

    ah, good to know, sumo

hey sumo, do you know who’s singing on scarlet>fire?

  25. phoammhead Says:

    ^and halcy – thanks.
