Five Favorites From Summer ’95

Jones Beach — Summer '95

Tweezer” 6.14 II, Memphis, TN

The Mud Island “Tweezer,” a classic and personal favorite that—I feel—is captivating for the entire 50 minutes.

Runaway Jim -> Free” 6.15 II, Raleigh, NC

Phish took this doggie a long way from home in Walnut Creek, another classic rendition.

David Bowie” 6.24 II, Philadelphia, PA

In a summer that contained countless standout “Bowies,” this version from the Mann Music Center is among the elite.

Down With Disease -> Free” 6.26 II, S. Springs, NY

One of the finest sequences of music from a spectacular summer—a two-pronged, psychedelic monstrosity.

Stash” 6.17 II, Gainesville, VA

A mind-numbing version from that closed the first set on the fifth night of a five night run. And it wound up being the highlight of the show.

Scored flyers sharks tix for the ongoing west coast run. Time to show some illy love. It gets so bad/good when anyone on our hill harvests…the UPS women stops delivering to our houses and leaves packages at the PO…see quit years ago and still get teased.

    Foam makes me acid scared.
Ha Ha Ha used to too until they brought it back super weak non-mind fk.

Going hiking for some turns. Enjoy your day everyone!

Re Radiohead: if u can make a show in your area they are a great live band and really care about their craft. Excellent textures and moods throughout the shows. Even if u don’t know their catalog they are worth it to me because they are so much more than straight ahead rock. Great band to blaze a little to, and climb into the aural cave. (tho when I saw them I was completely sober). Thoms vocals are hard to discern but they act as yet another layer within the mix…think many miss how much his distinct vox are integral to appreciating the band, ESP in the live setting.

ISO best/fav Phil & Friends shows with Scofield, Jorma, or Trey (excluding April ’99)

Duder sent me a list of his fav PLQ shows (thanx!)

and that Mtn Jam P&F show w/ Scofield is June 3, 2007 (not 2008) -one source lists a seeder but it’s not currently torrenting:

    Dunno who sings Scarlet>Fire

I usually assume Jackie is singing when it’s not Phil or Warren but I’m not sure how much Jeff Chimenti sings and so I may confuse those two

  6. phoammhead Says:

    thanks @dusty

  7. phoammhead Says:

yeah sumo, it was hard for me to tell on that scarlet>fire, which may mean by process of elimination that it is jeff . . . only listened once so will have to go back and give it another listen

11/21/97 Ghost comment … if that is searching and not finding, than that’s just the kind of searching and not finding that I love.

Seen Radiohead twice (Kid A/Amnesiac tour and Hail to the Thief tour), both great, though the first show was top 5 ever shows. They are great live, really worth checking out.

Rob, no Cali plans as of now, but would consider for ze Phish if they choose to tour this summer. Hope to see you soon!

  13. phoammhead Says:

thanks to whoever started seeding Mtn Jam P&F show w/ Scofield June 3, 2007

Jackie sings Scarlet, Warren sings FotM

I have one Radiohead ticket for the show in Broomfield on March 13th.

the MSG ’11 Ghost was the most glaring example of what failed this past NYE run, but like Sumo, I’m moving on to summer.

  17. Mike in Austin Says:

I don’t remember MSG 11. Watched it, but don’t remember it.

  18. Mike in Austin Says:

Love this SKM tela’s. Maybe my favorite albums in the last few years

  19. dusty Says:

Sco with MMW tour ala Go Go awhile was fun. Missed the one last year since they fear the left coast.

  20. tela'smuff Says:

nice MiA!! glad you like it. Kozelek/SKM is near the top for me. When my buddy turned me onto Ghosts of the Great Highway, i had that same reaction.

  21. BingosBrother Says:

    Knock knock mofos.

  22. garretc Says:

While I enjoy the other SKM albums I’ve heard, Ghosts of the Great Highway really is on another level for me…

That’s the one where it all comes together just right

  23. garretc Says:

The MSG ’11 Ghost is, however, not where it all comes together…

  24. kayatosh Says:

11.21.97 ghost not as good as recent MSG ghost.
