Five Favorites From Summer ’95

Jones Beach — Summer '95

Tweezer” 6.14 II, Memphis, TN

The Mud Island “Tweezer,” a classic and personal favorite that—I feel—is captivating for the entire 50 minutes.

Runaway Jim -> Free” 6.15 II, Raleigh, NC

Phish took this doggie a long way from home in Walnut Creek, another classic rendition.

David Bowie” 6.24 II, Philadelphia, PA

In a summer that contained countless standout “Bowies,” this version from the Mann Music Center is among the elite.

Down With Disease -> Free” 6.26 II, S. Springs, NY

One of the finest sequences of music from a spectacular summer—a two-pronged, psychedelic monstrosity.

Stash” 6.17 II, Gainesville, VA

A mind-numbing version from that closed the first set on the fifth night of a five night run. And it wound up being the highlight of the show.

with all the old school dead heads in here, surprised to see so much love for Phil’s projects…always good, but I didn’t think real heads cared…

  2. tela'smuff Says:

after what i saw in Broomfield a couple weeks ago Miner, it’s hard not to give love to P&F.

  3. Al Says:

That nonsense talk about that I didn’t really like tht 11/21/97 Ghost too much is that it just simply didn’t bring me to that place. There were some moments in that MSG 11 Ghost that I loved. Maybe my place is just a shithole…

BB rec’s working well for me so far this morning. Started with a little Black Byrd, now checking out that Sun Kil Moon. Good work, kids. Keep it up.

    @Halcy

You have a chance to grab the “Cowboy Songs” playlist yet?

I meant to explain when I posted it why it’s called that, but forgot… “Cowboy” was what my dad and step-mom were calling young master Quinn while he was still in utero, before the grand name reveal, and so I figured it had a nice ring to it, and didn’t see any reason to change it, so that’s why it’s called Cowboy Songs, despite mostly consisting entirely if not-Bobby tunes.

    The more you know!

  15. garretc Says:

There we go, Halcy, thanks for the heads up. I still had that URL going to my home folder on mediafire, which I forgot was a no-no.

Should take you where you need to go now, I hope!

    Thanks, Robear.
I know there are some holy-grail versions. But nothing’s better than a hot board at Miner’s place…

  19. vegas wolfmans Says:

Someone on the bb turned me onto that Sun Kil Moon album (Ghosts) and I had a similar reaction. Love it. Their other records are great too, but that one is particularly excellent IMO.

New Galactic record, Carnivale Electricos, in my medaifire. Pretty good listen.

How filthy is that Philly Bowie Miner linked above? Brilliant.

  20. Robear Says:

it has philth and dirt all over it vW. i also particularly enjoyed the DWD>Free.

Why all the Phil & F interest now? For me it’s just a random convergence of ‘events’ that sparked my interest. Something different to explore

Already have Dave’s Picks #1 (5.25.77) loaded on the pod for when I’m ready to return to the grayfolded
