Five Favorites From Summer ’95

Jones Beach — Summer '95

Tweezer” 6.14 II, Memphis, TN

The Mud Island “Tweezer,” a classic and personal favorite that—I feel—is captivating for the entire 50 minutes.

Runaway Jim -> Free” 6.15 II, Raleigh, NC

Phish took this doggie a long way from home in Walnut Creek, another classic rendition.

David Bowie” 6.24 II, Philadelphia, PA

In a summer that contained countless standout “Bowies,” this version from the Mann Music Center is among the elite.

Down With Disease -> Free” 6.26 II, S. Springs, NY

One of the finest sequences of music from a spectacular summer—a two-pronged, psychedelic monstrosity.

Stash” 6.17 II, Gainesville, VA

A mind-numbing version from that closed the first set on the fifth night of a five night run. And it wound up being the highlight of the show.

How was the show last night JTran?

  2. Kaveh Says:

    Morning BBers.

Thanks for the tunes again today @Miner! (and all the tunes over the last month, for that matter).

  3. Robear Says:

    Top of the mornin!

    Summer 95

Red Rocks 1&2, Deer Creek, Blossom = 4 of the best shows I ever saw

95 Waterloo = one of the worst

    4 to 1= good summer

  4. Jtran Says:

    verno

We ended up just going to a movie then home instead. Weeknights til 2 and work at 830 don’t mix well in my old age.

  5. Mr.Miner Says:

    couple more nuggets of “truth”—

    Portsmouth after AC

    dc > alpine > JB > SPAC

west coast = 9-10 shows all out west.

  6. Mr. Palmer Says:

4th of July at Jones beach, huh?

Should be a fun traffic experience. I’ll be there though.

I guess some fireworks over the water will be pretty cool.

  7. PrinceNabby Says:

Miner — are you hearing two nights at Portsmouth or no number specified?

  8. bhizzle Says:

    only SPAC in 95….

    i’m ok with it.

No Darien? Limited East coast tour due to AC?

  9. Robear Says:

Someone at red light loves me?

  10. kayatosh Says:

1.1.2011 mildly plinko’d Runaway Jim. so smooth.

No doubt that phish is the best band out there right now and extra effort should be made to catch shows. Trey is on point once again, playing cleaner and sharper than at any pt. during 2.0, and the other boys are ready to march with him to glory.

can already taste the salty, dirty AC air as Phish plays to the wide open. Bader field is on the back bay. expect some water tunes.

  11. willowed Says:

BB throw down in the last row at Jones Beach on the 4th with fireworks blowing up over the water.

I got goosebumps just typing that!

  12. albert walker Says:

not you Robear I think they dig Stoney Case

  13. albert walker Says:

may have to save my vacation times to hit that whole west coast run other than the 3 in AC and Alpine Valley. probably skip creek again.

  14. Mike in Austin Says:

This is a quality sounding SBD of this Jim.

I only saw Minneapolis and Dane County Fair in ’95. Birthday show so had to do it.

    I think Palmer saw this…

already booked my hotel room for JB. Some of you should look into it. It’s a hop, skip and a jump to the venue.

The people are really cool as well. Not a bad little spot. They remodled the whole thing last year. I stay at this place every time I hit JB shows.

Freeport Inn and Boatel. I think the room was like 125.00 or something.

  16. Wilson123 Says:

Most we’ve known about Summer dates all year. Leads me to believe these are somewhat accurate.

  17. Mike in Austin Says:

I’ll do the WC this August. Good time to get out of Texas. Probably do Europe this summer, or go to Kauai again for early summer vacation.

  18. Jtran Says:

    Come on Chula Vista!!

  19. Mike in Austin Says:

    Ah. Left Nuts. Got it.

  20. verno329 Says:

Saw the same two in Fall ’95 MiA. My first two shows. Second set of Madison is still one of my favorites.

  21. tela'smuff Says:

yeah, I’ll be waiting for Leg II dates.

  22. albert walker Says:

but for me multiple nights and GA floor is probably the most important thing in my decision making so in the end AC still may be the best looking run depending no where they play out west

  23. Kaveh Says:

west coast = 9-10 shows all out west.

@Miner: any venues floating around for these shows?

  24. Jtran Says:

Almost just sent a customer an email with a date of “6/14”

    whoops

  25. Mike in Austin Says:

@Verno, I do like that Reba and the whole second set in St. Paul.

Boomer’s and the Mike’s had my buddy freaking out crawling under the chairs.

I know too many people who have done L for first time, and bailed on the show. Suddenly, they’re like “What the hell? Are they playing for 14 hours straight?”

@IT, and two kids are next to me during Ghost about 30 mins in. They look stunned. Flummoxed. Massive pupils. They look at me, like I’m some “adult supervision” and say “Is the show over yet?” I laughed and said “Ha. Are you kidding? The is the second song of the second set. This shit is gonna rage like this all night. We have 6 more songs in this set, and then the third set and a huge encore. Strap in kids.”

They left. I suspect they went back to their tent.

    Pussies.
