Five Favorites From Summer ’95

Jones Beach — Summer '95

Tweezer” 6.14 II, Memphis, TN

The Mud Island “Tweezer,” a classic and personal favorite that—I feel—is captivating for the entire 50 minutes.

Runaway Jim -> Free” 6.15 II, Raleigh, NC

Phish took this doggie a long way from home in Walnut Creek, another classic rendition.

David Bowie” 6.24 II, Philadelphia, PA

In a summer that contained countless standout “Bowies,” this version from the Mann Music Center is among the elite.

Down With Disease -> Free” 6.26 II, S. Springs, NY

One of the finest sequences of music from a spectacular summer—a two-pronged, psychedelic monstrosity.

Stash” 6.17 II, Gainesville, VA

A mind-numbing version from that closed the first set on the fifth night of a five night run. And it wound up being the highlight of the show.

mid week so I’m pretending those don’t look sick but indoor phish coming off most likely a weekend practice session looks like a throwdown in the making

  8. willowed Says:

They remodeled it TIII. It’s pretty nice now. I’m not joking.

  9. Dr Pronoia Says:

    AC is birthday weekend

SpAc is enticing too, as well as the annual alpine pilgrimage

Leaving to AC + water club

  10. Kaveh Says:

yeah, I’ll be waiting for Leg II dates.

^ Agreed. If anything from Leg I; I’d take Alpine; since it is a weekend and is the home turf.

Eight years old, cold lampin in the local community pool.

  13. Mr. Palmer Says:

willowed- i was just checking that place out. It actually looked alright, despite what i already know about Freeport. My folks live 40 minutes from JB, i would do drive though. No booze at JB, helps with the driving.

  18. Jtran Says:

No summer tour dates – everyone hates phish
Pretty certain tour dates – everyone plans tour

  19. RoosterPizza Says:

    Summer 95

11 years old, building ramps in my driveway with any piece of scrap wood I could find. Definitely not on tour. I did, however, know about Phish and actually knew a couple of songs, Bouncin’ and DWD.

  20. ColonelJoy Says:

Damn, I think I might post today. AW, miss you, bro.

  21. albert walker Says:

totally man. been a while. hope all is well man.

  22. Type III Jamming Personality Disorder Says:

willowed, I know and mainly kidding, but my aunt and uncle live like two towns over and they were straight horrified that we had even considered staying there. my wife and her friends stayed there in like 2001 or so for Trey band (I think it was Trey). anyway, I can guarantee my wife would veto that if she were to come with.

apparently when I was a kid we were visiting for my grandparents’ 50th anniversary party and there was a big snow storm and they had to find rooms for all of these people who couldn’t drive home. I guess at that time that place was a by-the-hour motel and there’s some family jokes about people having to stay there overnight.

  23. ColonelJoy Says:

The Wife and I were considering Roo…love rhead, chillis, and that other headlinder, and would kill to hear a Live “God Only Knows”

However, we are in chill mode, and this summer will be my 4 years old son’s first shows. I’m thinking we will lawn boy it at Alpine.

  24. albert walker Says:

it’s funny when I see 3.0 shows I get pissed at Trey for not being on point

but when I spin these summer 95 I start feeling Fish and Trey are equally responsible for slacking lately.

Fish is just all over the place, rolling beats, tempo changes all over the place. so crisp and creative with everything. wow.

  25. ColonelJoy Says:

By Summer 95′ I had only seen two shows: 12-30-93 and 11-30-94

I was in WA state that summer…did some Vegas and Seattle Dead, don’t remember even contemplating a Phish show….

That changed after the 2night Seattle run in the fall….I was firmly on the CarsTrucksBuses at that point, any means necessary to get to shows…

    This Bowie is pretty nice
