Five Favorites From Summer ’95

Jones Beach — Summer '95

Tweezer” 6.14 II, Memphis, TN

The Mud Island “Tweezer,” a classic and personal favorite that—I feel—is captivating for the entire 50 minutes.

Runaway Jim -> Free” 6.15 II, Raleigh, NC

Phish took this doggie a long way from home in Walnut Creek, another classic rendition.

David Bowie” 6.24 II, Philadelphia, PA

In a summer that contained countless standout “Bowies,” this version from the Mann Music Center is among the elite.

Down With Disease -> Free” 6.26 II, S. Springs, NY

One of the finest sequences of music from a spectacular summer—a two-pronged, psychedelic monstrosity.

Stash” 6.17 II, Gainesville, VA

A mind-numbing version from that closed the first set on the fifth night of a five night run. And it wound up being the highlight of the show.

but this bass groove that starts the Bowie jam is just as funky as any cow funk era shit. first real Mike led jam of this set Miner dropped.

    killer Trey tone too

  2. Kaveh Says:

Man…I don’t feel like working today. Just one of those days. I wish I would have brought @Miner’s book today and I would just sit and read that all day. Oh well, trying to get motivated….

  3. Mike in Austin Says:

I think that is my quickest “consumption” of a Friday’s posting songs. I was like a fat kid on smartie.

On to St. Paul ’95 Set II.

  4. tela'smuff Says:

it’s weird because when i made up my fantasy tour, i had posted that Eugene Cuthbert show in between Shoreline and the Gorge, and now it’s actually shown up in these rumored dates.

@Miner – the guys that’s been posting these new rumored dates from my understanding, has no true inside info, and he kind of just specualtes based on reasearch what he thinks the dates are going to be. is your info coming straight from him, or is what he’s saying kind of matching up with what you heard?

  5. albert walker Says:

many of these have been verified by peeps in the now

AC, Creek, Alpine. I know this info is out there from various sources. not sure about the other dates.

  6. albert walker Says:

I would def take off work from Shoreline through the Gorge. first 3.0 Gorge trip. haven’t been there since 97 and 98.

  7. Robear Says:

dub, me and C almost choked a kid out in Portland. the bar was playing Clifford Ball. Kid says “Things got really good in ’97, when Mike finally learned how to play the bass”

I think it was C’s cool vibe that kept my hands off his neck.

  8. ColonelJoy Says:

I think we are in agreement today. Would be sick to hear techno-stripped Phish!!

  9. Mike in Austin Says:

Miner says WC starts in San Francisco. I’d bet my money on that. But Irvine as a “warm-up” would make sense too. Doubt they would sell it out though.

There were tickets on the ground at Hollywood Bowl. Couldn’t have been an easier show to get to, and a “check this” place to see the band (at least for LA area peeps.)

  10. Mr.Miner Says:

apparently in the 9-10 west coast shows, no Gorge…

  11. Mr.Miner Says:

    not shoreline

  12. albert walker Says:

not shoreline = good to hear

  13. Mr.Miner Says:

@tela. I’m telling you what I know. Not because of that dude.

  16. kayatosh Says:

would love to see a SF show. Might be just the nudge needed to see cali again.

  17. albert walker Says:

we need a Bowie that hits that spot many did in 94-95 where there is a segment of almost complete silence where no one is playing in the meat of the space before it pulls the jam out. Mike pulls em out just like he started this one.

Mike is all over this Bowie. wow Fish on the cymbals. killer.

  18. ColonelJoy Says:

I’m Tracking the last killer non-standard Bowie was Philly 97′ Maybe there was one in Japan, too…not sure.

  19. Guyute711 Says:

I have a hard time believing that after two years in a row of 4 southern show runs they are just going to stiff us this year. Maybe it’s because I live here. By the way, fuck Bonnaroo.

  20. Mike in Austin Says:

we need a Bowie any track that hits the spot many did in 94-95

  21. tela'smuff Says:
