Five More From Summer ’95

Great Woods 7-1-95

Let’ start the week off with another dip into the primordial psychedelia of Summer ’95—the band’s most experimental tour ever.

Mike’s Song” 6.20 II, Cuyahoga Falls, OH

This menacing version descended upon Blossom, leaving many wide-eyed fans wondering what had just happened.

David Bowie” 6.15 II, Atlanta, GA

Another one of Summer ’95’s top-shelf “Bowies.”

Tweezer > Gumbo” 6.28 II, Wantagh, NY

Another multi-faceted and experimental monster, featuring “Dave’s Energy Guide” and a jam on The Breeder’s “Cannonball,” from the first night at Jones Beach.

Runaway Jim ->  Makisupa” 7.2 II, Sugarbush, VT

A hard-edged and grinding jam eventually melts into “Makisupa” on the first night of Sugarbush’s summer-ending precursor to The Clifford Ball.

Split Open and Melt” 7.1 II, Mansfield, MA

A first set joyride into seething musical realms.

    Congrats, Tela’s! I had a hunch.

  2. Guyute711 Says:

“So, to everyone on the BB…
You get to manage Phish this summer….max 30 dates…what do you do?”

Shake things up big time with a lot of venues never played or not played in ages.

I was in the hunt recently for a favorite soccer club to follow, now that I was all in on the sport itself, and thanks to the suggestion of my dad’s boss, Dortmund was the pick.

Defending champs, top of the table this season, some great young talent, electric style of play, rabid fan base (they have the second highest average home attendance in Europe behind Barca), nice jerseys, storied history…

  4. Guyute711 Says:

“ultimately, it comes down to we’re expecting a baby late Sept so I got shit to work out. i think i can sell the “last hoorah” argument one more time. ”

    Congrats tela’s!!!!

Do you get to use that argument for every child?

  5. halcyon Says:

    Congratulations Tela’s! Awesome News!

We will be returning the maternity clothes your SLF lent us very soon!

  6. ColonelJoy Says:

I’d like to see them get creative with a T-Ride like venue on the east coast….maybe somewhere in appalachia or like the Allagash in Maine…

  7. El Duderino Says:

    babies babies babies…
    just a few weeks apart

  8. Gratefulcub Says:

Nice Garret. When I bought into the sport, I chose Barca. They were just so much fun to watch (the Ronaldinho era; more fun to watch now).

So, in England, i didn’t feel like it was right of me to choose another top of the table Big Four type, so I somehow ended up with Tottenham. I lived through some lean years, so this season is satisfying (i’m ignoring what happened yesterday). I’m a Cubs fan, after all. I had to pick a team that always under acheives and finds new and creative ways to fail.

A Southern festi wouldn’t be bad either, throw that sucker in the middle of September for some cooler temps, preferably in the Carolinas. 🙂

  10. tela'smuff Says:

thanks gents. @halcy – i’m counting on it being a boy, so those won’t matter. 🙂

yes! @G7. or so i have told myself.

  11. Jtran Says:

lol @ Trey not communicating and Bethel/Vegas falling through.

  12. ColonelJoy Says:

My wife was 7 months preganant…we drove from Bavaria to Vienna for a MMW-Sco show, and then down to Venice for Peter Gabriel.

  13. Gratefulcub Says:

“Do you get to use that argument for every child?”

I’m still in the midst of my ‘last hoorah’ that began in 2009. I guess I will be touring for 2 this summer.

  14. Jtran Says:

FWIW, I became a Fulham fan before Dempsey started lighting it up this year.

It is hard to follow a mid-table English team though (I don’t have Fox Soccer channel) because the games are never shown on espn3 or TV for the most part. Oh well.

  15. Mr.Miner Says:

I’m sure other bands plan and cancel dates often, but their fan base isn’t crazy enough to find out…

  16. HarryHood Says:

    If I could manage Phish………

The only thing that I would like to see changed is the perception that Phish needs to be “hyped”. Just give the fans the dates and let the rest fall into place. And I would release a few live Blu-rays and make webcasts available for each show. Too much to ask? I really don’t think so.

  17. Guyute711 Says:

    Nickleback never cancels bro!!!!!

  18. garretc Says:

Yeah, I had the same problem with the EPL teams, all the good ones just had plenty of reasons for me to not jump on in support… And these days Barca was too easy, so Bundesliga is a nice left field choice, I think!

I went with AC Milan as my B squad, a little more mainstream of a pick, but still have the history, the jerseys, and they play at a high level. Plus, since my only scrap of European genetic heritage that’s worth anything is Swedish, I have love for the big man up front, Ibra

  19. HarryHood Says:

    “Nickleback never cancels bro!!!!!”

^ Guyute, You act like you are joking, but we know you know speak from experience. And don’t even try to explain why you’ve been in the front row for several DMB shows 😉

  20. Gratefulcub Says:

JTran, if you had said “before Brian McBride”, THEN I would have been impressed 😉

It’s impossible without FSC, as my wife refers to as “my husband’s ESPN”

  21. HarryHood Says:

You can’t claim that you are only there for the women when you are planted front and center

  22. Guyute711 Says:

I love a good sax solo, what can I say

  23. lumpyhead Says:

I’ve really enjoyed the convos today

  24. HarryHood Says:

    @ Guyute

You got me. Well played sir. Well played.

  25. Jtran Says:

    haha gcub

When he was on the team I was still in the loving Chelsea days. Pre-branching out and finding a team other people everywhere don’t like. But touche 😉
