TTFF: The Venues of 2012

6.10.11—Camden, NJ (Graham Lucas)

With the announcement of dates, a new excitement is in the air. Phish is, once again, within reach, even if its three plus months away. But in early anticipation of Summer 2012, today’s playlist is comprised of selections from venues that the band will play this summer. Enjoy the multi-era’d retrospective as we fade into the first weekend of March.

Cities -> Good Times Bad Times” 8.10.97 II, Noblesville, IN

The centerpiece of my favorite show ever played at Deer Creek.

Disease -> What’s the Use?” 8.14.10 II, East Troy, WI

A modern-day classic from Alpine Valley 2010, already commemorated on DVD.

Number Line” 6.12.10 II, Cuyahoga Falls, OH

A sinister jam from the second show of tour at Blossom.

Tweezer” 12.28.95 II, Worcester, MA

Phish dropped this big-time “Tweezer” at The Centrum on the opening night of New Year’s Run ’95.

Gumbo” 8.13.97 II, Burgettstown, PA

This version from Star Lake is my favorite “Gumbo” of all time.

It’s Ice”  9.20.00 II, Cincinatti, OH

An out-of-nowhere plunge into psychedelic depths at Riverbend on Phish’s final tour before hiatus.

Sand” 6.19.11 II, Portsmouth, VA

To know this “Sand” is to love it. Every time I listen to this version from nTelos, I like it more and more. Trey absolutely destroys this piece in the context of a whole-band exchange. In my opinion, its the best version of an impressive year of “Sands.”

Reba” 6.2.09 I, Wantagh, NY

Phish dropped this gorgeous “Reba” in the early-evening at Jones Beach on the second night of 2009’s first tour.

Kill Devil Falls > Free” 6.12.09, Manchester, TN

This jam highlighted Phish’s late-night slot at Bonnaroo—the first of two performances.

Walls > Bowie” 6.19.04 I, Saratoga Springs, NY

The otherworldly second set of this SPAC show has always overshadowed this demonic combo from the first.

Love that gumbo. Miner pointed out that jam a while back and it gets a lot of spins. May I request multiple posts for past hits from this summer’s venues? Cheers.

  3. Corey Says:

Third’d. That Gumbo almost ended my vegetarian lifestyle, just 7 years in. Man, I loved that tour.

So, I have to miss the tour opener due to a concert of young clarinetists and I may have to miss SPAC’s middle show for my 20th h.s. reunion. Why does life always get in the way? Ahh, to be young and free…

Oh, and Cats cats CATS! They are a force to be reckoned with. On, on UK!

  4. bhizzle Says:

An “It’s Ice”?!?!?!? How many of those have been dropped here? I may not be fully awake , but my curiosity sure is..yuck, yuck, yuck..

  5. Grooves Says:

You ask and you receive…who could forget the eye opening Rhinoceros followed by the jaw dropping dance party that was Halley’s to open the second night at the Creek in ’98? Good times those were…

  6. st8 of mind Says:

Nice variety here. Thanks Miner. Happy Friday to all.

  7. BTB Says:

    That Gumbo is $$$

I forgot about that Numberline…the ending had me questioning what was going on…and yet it saddens me to think that my Blossom streak will be coming to an end. Two years straight the Phish has put on quite the shows there and odds are it’ll happen againthis year.

  9. BTB Says:

Portsmouth Sand definitely rocks…has shades of that Blossom Sally Jam. The Charleston Sand is my favorite though

giving the selecta soul show sit-in a listen this morning. get yo funk on

nothing like spending the evening in the emergency room with a baby.

after three+ fevered days of her refusing to eat/drink anything whilst not being able to keep anything in her for a prolonged period, we took Baby Disorder in to get some fluids into her. two bags of fluid later and I think we turned the corner. it was like flipping a switch. she went from sullen, miserable and lethargic to our normal little crazy girl pretty quickly. still not fully out of the woods fighting off whatever she has, but it is a brand new day.

    keep your kids hydrated, yo!

  11. Guyute711 Says:

Selector is sneaking in secret shows?

  12. Gavinsdad Says:

Sorry to hear that T3. These kids health travails are onerous.

To that end, our endocrinologist called yesterday in advance of our 3/19 appt to let us know that our daughters final antibody test came back negative which = GOOD. Her scenario is an anomaly of the highest order. 99% of these tests come back showing diabetes onset. The doc said at this point we don’t need to monitor anymore and she is good to just be a 5 year old. Smile.

  13. Type III Jamming Personality Disorder Says:

thanks, gdad. reflecting that right back at ya. glad to hear your little one got that positive negative result (I’ve always thought it odd that in medicine a negative result is a good thing).

  14. Guyute711 Says:

I don’t know how you guys do it, I take terrible care of myself. Here’s to good parents and healthy children.

  15. Mr. Palmer Says:

great news gdad…and T3. glad to hear the children are well.

  16. Mr. Palmer Says:

PhreeDumb from previous page….never has a posters screen name so accurately described their posting style… you sir, are a clown.

  17. Type III Jamming Personality Disorder Says:

    thanks @selecta

  18. bhizzle Says:

with young children sometimes it feels like there is nothing that you can do but ride it out, ie fevers and coughs and congestion due to not being able to give them over the counter treatments. to have to bring them to the hospital is a whole new ball game and am glad I have yet to be in such a scenario….trying to pass my good fortunes to all you parents out there…(knock on wood)

  19. Gavinsdad Says:

Bhizz – u makin AC or stickin w SPAC?

  20. Gavinsdad Says:

^would be nice to put a face to a name

  21. Type III Jamming Personality Disorder Says:

nice. even the version I hoped for. thanks, selecta

  22. Type III Jamming Personality Disorder Says:

when you come on today, check out
they might have the deets on the song you were looking for last night

  23. joemeg Says:

Glad to hear your little ones are OK, Gdad and T3. Now you can relax and enjoy the weekend.

  24. Mr. Palmer Says:

I still vividly remember taking my first born to the hospital with a fever. Man did that suck, especially when the dumb ass nurse couldn’t find a vein to draw some blood, so she just stuck a 3 month old with a needle repeatedly. I wanted to punch someone. helpless feeling.

  25. Mr. Palmer Says:

Joemeg- you hitting JB? If you guys are, do you plan on coming from WH? That’s the plan I think we are leaning towards.( no traffic coming east to west) If you do, maybe we can split some transport or carpool… just a thought i had.
