TTFF: The Venues of 2012

6.10.11—Camden, NJ (Graham Lucas)

With the announcement of dates, a new excitement is in the air. Phish is, once again, within reach, even if its three plus months away. But in early anticipation of Summer 2012, today’s playlist is comprised of selections from venues that the band will play this summer. Enjoy the multi-era’d retrospective as we fade into the first weekend of March.

Cities -> Good Times Bad Times” 8.10.97 II, Noblesville, IN

The centerpiece of my favorite show ever played at Deer Creek.

Gumbo” 8.13.97 II, Burgettstown, PA

This version from Star Lake is my favorite “Gumbo” of all time.

It’s Ice”  9.20.00 II, Cincinatti, OH

An out-of-nowhere plunge into psychedelic depths at Riverbend on Phish’s final tour before hiatus.

Sand” 6.19.11 II, Portsmouth, VA

To know this “Sand” is to love it. Every time I listen to this version from nTelos, I like it more and more. Trey absolutely destroys this piece in the context of a whole-band exchange. In my opinion, its the best version of an impressive year of “Sands.”

Reba” 6.2.09 I, Wantagh, NY

Phish dropped this gorgeous “Reba” in the early-evening at Jones Beach on the second night of 2009’s first tour.

Kill Devil Falls > Free” 6.12.09, Manchester, TN

This jam highlighted Phish’s late-night slot at Bonnaroo—the first of two performances.

Walls > Bowie” 6.19.04 I, Saratoga Springs, NY

The otherworldly second set of this SPAC show has always overshadowed this demonic combo from the first.

Kenny!! What’s up? I loved that first set summer 2000. Those 3 songs to close ruled. Check the if I could closer from The first set the other night. Both dirt sets at PNC ruled in 2000.

By the way. 11/28 is my birthday. I’m lovin the love for that set.

  2. Tom Says:

    Love the countdown!

  3. Tom Says:

I am looking for some sort of lodging for the AC run. If anyone has any ideas or wants to collaborate to form some sort of plans, shoot me an email at tp12993@aol.com. Any ideas or help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

  9. tela'smuff Says:

@robear – i do hear what sounds like a real attempt by Trey to play that riff. this will be a tough sell because the tease takes a little bit of a leap of faith, but i hear it. (this is where Mr. P say, “but you hear all kinds of teases that aren’t there.”)

yesterday was another fun beer day. bought my custom IPA kit to start round 2 of my home brewing journey. had a couple of beers at Stapes, then drove to Boulder for a furious round of Green Bullet Organic IPA’s at Ashers. wifey picked me up. jah love her.

  10. Robear Says:

Any videos surface yet of Bethel? I want proof it was Phish that dropped the ‘Cities>Halleys>Runaway Jim’ jamming.

@ Telas, we don’t need validation. That was a sweet tease by Trey. Smiths Album was only 2 years old at the time.

So if it’s not 3 bars of ‘Streets of Cairo’ it’s not a tease?

  11. Gavinsdad Says:

Not 3 bars? NO TEASE FOR YOU!

  12. buddysmyles Says:

@ Robear- i was there but i m still not certain it was phish! hahaha what a great show… Best Cities, Halleys, Jim, Quinn, maybe Gin of 2011 & that was all in the 1st set!

  13. kenny powers Says:

    @BogHog

d’oh! i signed off right before you posted. howdy doody. went to bed to late, had a couple too many pops but it could be much worse. at least there was no hard shit in the house. i think i’m done with that.

  14. Multibeast Says:

    Quick question for the BB:
Where are people staying for the AV run? I usually stay @ a college friend’s cabin but its looking like a big CO crew is making the IN/WI trip and we may need an alternative.
    Cheers!

  15. Robear Says:

I just want video evidence Buddy! Trey sounds like a younger man from a bygone era, ripping those leads throughout that set. Other than SBIX 3, he kept the genie in the bottle for most first sets.

Dear iPad spellcheck, the band leader is ‘Trey’ not ‘Grey’

  16. Robear Says:

Phish.net is scrapping their whole chart now. Their new motto:

“If it’s not Streets of Cairo, it’s not a tease”

  17. Mr. Palmer Says:

Bethel 2 is the best show of 2011 imo.

  20. El Duderino Says:

    ????

crazy talk Palmer that’s just plain ol crazy talk 🙂

Morning fella’s, feelin’ alright today hope you phools are too!

  21. Robear Says:

Palmer, it was all down hill from there……

JK. If I was a cynical fan, I’d say something like
“Trey let it all hang out at Bethel, after low initial ticket sales for tour. Fans jumped on in droves. Then Trey pulled the wings back, and cruised all the way to MSG, with frequent stops at the bank, and a few brief visits to the storage shed”

    IF I was cynical.

  22. Robear Says:

We need to stage some periodic baby deer birthings, scattered throughout tour.

    Any wildlife biologists out there?

  23. ae Says:

trey (and the band) sounded real good at dick’s too.

  24. Mr. Palmer Says:

So i learned that Trey has a teleprompter on stage that basically lists every song they play. ( maybe this is common knowledge?). He basically looks down and picks the next song.

I think that they should try jumbling the list up differently or take away certain songs once set II starts. ( looking at you Alaska and Julius)

  25. Robear Says:

okay team, I’m reeling myself back in with some 2011 Highlights. If I keep spinning miner’s classic gems, I’ll never get back on the bus.

    Bethel Halleys>SBIX Simple to start.
