TTFF: The Venues of 2012

6.10.11—Camden, NJ (Graham Lucas)

With the announcement of dates, a new excitement is in the air. Phish is, once again, within reach, even if its three plus months away. But in early anticipation of Summer 2012, today’s playlist is comprised of selections from venues that the band will play this summer. Enjoy the multi-era’d retrospective as we fade into the first weekend of March.

Cities -> Good Times Bad Times” 8.10.97 II, Noblesville, IN

The centerpiece of my favorite show ever played at Deer Creek.

Disease -> What’s the Use?” 8.14.10 II, East Troy, WI

A modern-day classic from Alpine Valley 2010, already commemorated on DVD.

Number Line” 6.12.10 II, Cuyahoga Falls, OH

A sinister jam from the second show of tour at Blossom.

Tweezer” 12.28.95 II, Worcester, MA

Phish dropped this big-time “Tweezer” at The Centrum on the opening night of New Year’s Run ’95.

Gumbo” 8.13.97 II, Burgettstown, PA

This version from Star Lake is my favorite “Gumbo” of all time.

It’s Ice”  9.20.00 II, Cincinatti, OH

An out-of-nowhere plunge into psychedelic depths at Riverbend on Phish’s final tour before hiatus.

Sand” 6.19.11 II, Portsmouth, VA

To know this “Sand” is to love it. Every time I listen to this version from nTelos, I like it more and more. Trey absolutely destroys this piece in the context of a whole-band exchange. In my opinion, its the best version of an impressive year of “Sands.”

Reba” 6.2.09 I, Wantagh, NY

Phish dropped this gorgeous “Reba” in the early-evening at Jones Beach on the second night of 2009’s first tour.

Kill Devil Falls > Free” 6.12.09, Manchester, TN

This jam highlighted Phish’s late-night slot at Bonnaroo—the first of two performances.

Walls > Bowie” 6.19.04 I, Saratoga Springs, NY

The otherworldly second set of this SPAC show has always overshadowed this demonic combo from the first.

Palmer, they need to give him a Tele-8-Ball, he can shake it between songs. Play what pops up.

  2. Calpain Says:

I know you can see treys monitor in the AV dvd. I thought he used it for lyrics. Kinda like karaoke machine. Classy.

  3. Robear Says:

  7. Robear Says:

    ‘Bug’ = 3.0 Ballad MVP?

  8. joe Says:

It was the old vat of woodstock LSD that they found in Bethel that made the difference. Superball Simple will keep me coming back for sure

  9. Robear Says:

basically, hit the three night runs, skip the rest.

3 nighter out west for leg 2 pretty please?

    SBIX ‘Bug’ slays

  10. Mr.Miner Says:

darkest of horses— Portland 99 Ghost. A 30 minute BEAST that is better than a anything from Vancouver or Gorge…not sure why nobody highlights it, but one of the best. The Gin in set I is pure bliss as well.

  11. Mr.Miner Says:

will do a post about it this week…

  12. tela'smuff Says:

SBIX Simple>Bug is a big highlight for 2011.

    i’m happy with that

  13. Kaveh Says:

@miner: thanks…I’m going to track that show down today and give it a spin. Thanks.

  14. kenny powers Says:

YEs – that Portland Ghost is pure demonic celestial out-of-body shite.

  15. Robear Says:

miner, that Portland show was jammy. the dust track? we were vending Thai Stir Fry. Tough to accomplish in the swirling dust storm, but we pulled it off!

Def. forgot what song they were playing during ‘Gin’

  16. Robear Says:

Happiness = having a green thumb SLF that grows the chronalicktic.

  17. Kaveh Says:

Is this what you speak of Miner?

Set 1: First Tube, Poor Heart, Mozambique, Bathtub Gin, Back on the Train, My Mind’s Got a Mind of its Own, Frankie Says, Birds of a Feather, Lawn Boy, Possum

Set 2: Ghost > Runaway Jim > Roggae, Also Sprach Zarathustra > You Enjoy Myself

    Encore: Theme From the Bottom

  18. Mr. Palmer Says:

Been on a ’96 kick since Miner brought it up day ago.

    Clifford ball

and now i move onto 8.14, the Hershey Kiss.

  19. Robear Says:

First time I heard ‘Twist’ live, I thought Trey said:

“Smoked an eighth, for several days”

  20. halcyon Says:

BGCC in San Fran still rumored for this summer? When? August? September?

That 10-25-96 was hampton, va iirc. Great version of Hood in that show. That show was when Red professed his love for Hampton. Great show.

  21. kenny powers Says:

that’s it Kaveh – the flow of that 2nd set is awesome. Actually, maybe i’ll do a remaster of that show. I have an AUD that’s very nice and has less wind than the other source, but it could use some more volume and clearer highs.

  22. Type III Jamming Personality Disorder Says:

    afternoon source seeking drive by:

what’s the best source for The Clifford Ball? Looking to upgrade what I have.

  23. El Duderino Says:

the audio rips of the CB dvd’s on the ‘nerd T3

Robert Hunter’s letter to Jer one year after his death

  24. Type III Jamming Personality Disorder Says:

thanks, duder. that’s what I figured but wanted to check before I went into that 1.0 torrent there.

  25. ElJefe Says:

Duder- I saw the GD use sheet music once. I think. But then again I saw Barney the dinosaur play bass for em once. I think….?
