TTFF: The Venues of 2012

6.10.11—Camden, NJ (Graham Lucas)

With the announcement of dates, a new excitement is in the air. Phish is, once again, within reach, even if its three plus months away. But in early anticipation of Summer 2012, today’s playlist is comprised of selections from venues that the band will play this summer. Enjoy the multi-era’d retrospective as we fade into the first weekend of March.

Cities -> Good Times Bad Times” 8.10.97 II, Noblesville, IN

The centerpiece of my favorite show ever played at Deer Creek.

Disease -> What’s the Use?” 8.14.10 II, East Troy, WI

A modern-day classic from Alpine Valley 2010, already commemorated on DVD.

Number Line” 6.12.10 II, Cuyahoga Falls, OH

A sinister jam from the second show of tour at Blossom.

Tweezer” 12.28.95 II, Worcester, MA

Phish dropped this big-time “Tweezer” at The Centrum on the opening night of New Year’s Run ’95.

Gumbo” 8.13.97 II, Burgettstown, PA

This version from Star Lake is my favorite “Gumbo” of all time.

It’s Ice”  9.20.00 II, Cincinatti, OH

An out-of-nowhere plunge into psychedelic depths at Riverbend on Phish’s final tour before hiatus.

Sand” 6.19.11 II, Portsmouth, VA

To know this “Sand” is to love it. Every time I listen to this version from nTelos, I like it more and more. Trey absolutely destroys this piece in the context of a whole-band exchange. In my opinion, its the best version of an impressive year of “Sands.”

Reba” 6.2.09 I, Wantagh, NY

Phish dropped this gorgeous “Reba” in the early-evening at Jones Beach on the second night of 2009’s first tour.

Kill Devil Falls > Free” 6.12.09, Manchester, TN

This jam highlighted Phish’s late-night slot at Bonnaroo—the first of two performances.

Walls > Bowie” 6.19.04 I, Saratoga Springs, NY

The otherworldly second set of this SPAC show has always overshadowed this demonic combo from the first.

Does any BB’er have a little extra floor space for the AC run? I am more then willing to pay for a fair share of a room to sleep on the floor. Also, if anyone is still looking into making plans for a hotel I would definitely collaborate if you want/need another person to alleviate some of the cost. If anyone has any interest in either of the two options feel free to send me an email at and we can talk it over if you want to. Thanks, and sorry for the long post

Just saw the Mickey Hart Band at the Orpheum in Flagstaff… Great show! Really soulful lineup and exploratory new original music with literally cosmic undertones — and a few Dead tunes mixed in never hurts! The Other One and Scarlet>Fire both rocked!

    Interview with Mickey here:

    Congratulations Phoamm and BEK!

  11. DryIceFactory Says:

I feel like the Ten Tunes: Venues of 2012 should continue until there’s basically no type II left to report. Just my opnion.

  12. c0wfunk Says:

congrats phoam. As it turns out your sister works closely with my wife so I caught the news last week.. Small town!

  13. c0wfunk Says:

thinking about checking out that Mickey Hart show after hearing Mickey talking about his space music on the dead hour a few weeks ago. THough hearing him do fire on the mountain is not that appealing, I always had a tough time with his version of the tune..

  14. phoammhead Says:

thanks halcy, tom, voops, phamB, butter, plord, joemeg and cow!

that’s soo funny @cow – apparently yes . . . very, very, very small town . . . and we love it. from thursday evening i’m sure the whole town knew by friday morning lolz!

  15. joemeg Says:

having a tough time would be an huge understatement to how I feel about Mickey’s version of Fire on the Mountain

  16. Admiral Ackbar Says:

  19. Robear Says:

Radiohead added dates to their tour. Now hitting Bonnaroo, amongst others.

  20. Gavinsdad Says:

It appears that @tom is very short/tiny. He may fit in that space between bed and wall. Lord knows ive copped the spot between the beds. After Charlotte in ’10 our friend grabbed a comforter, made himself up into a burrito under a desk and we didnt even hear him leave in the am.

  21. Robear Says:

    Bay Area heads,

Chance we could do Radiohead in San Jose. Need two tickets.

    Anyone going? Have extras?

  22. voopa Says:

Heh, I’m going too Robear, still waiting for tix to magically fall from the sky tho.

  23. Robear Says:

Nice voopstar! Grab 2 more while you’re at it. Crash at your place?

  24. Mike in Austin Says:

“Thanks, and sorry for the long post”

Tom, that was the shortest “long” post ever. In fact, just my response will probably be longer than your original post.

Well, at least in my head.

    Needed more carriage returns though.

  25. punkmug Says:

Radiohead at Blossom would be fun!
