TTFF: The Venues of 2012

6.10.11—Camden, NJ (Graham Lucas)

With the announcement of dates, a new excitement is in the air. Phish is, once again, within reach, even if its three plus months away. But in early anticipation of Summer 2012, today’s playlist is comprised of selections from venues that the band will play this summer. Enjoy the multi-era’d retrospective as we fade into the first weekend of March.

Gumbo” 8.13.97 II, Burgettstown, PA

This version from Star Lake is my favorite “Gumbo” of all time.

***

It’s Ice”  9.20.00 II, Cincinatti, OH

An out-of-nowhere plunge into psychedelic depths at Riverbend on Phish’s final tour before hiatus.

Sand” 6.19.11 II, Portsmouth, VA

To know this “Sand” is to love it. Every time I listen to this version from nTelos, I like it more and more. Trey absolutely destroys this piece in the context of a whole-band exchange. In my opinion, its the best version of an impressive year of “Sands.”

Phish dropped this gorgeous “Reba” in the early-evening at Jones Beach on the second night of 2009’s first tour.

This jam highlighted Phish’s late-night slot at Bonnaroo—the first of two performances.

Walls > Bowie” 6.19.04 I, Saratoga Springs, NY

The otherworldly second set of this SPAC show has always overshadowed this demonic combo from the first.

Bro, we get the clarinet concert thing.

It’s the class reunion comment drawing the 🙄 from the gallery! Catch up w HS buddies…….isn’t that why we have Faceplace?

  2. Robear Says:

Ah, I thought you would miss whole run. I get it. I now have less respect. You’re thumbing your nose at all the west coast fans that don’t get any shows. Word.

  3. Guyute711 Says:

I know I’m running behind but it’s nice to get some Wulf on Friday!!!!

  4. Robear Says:

Little change around 9 min mark is $$$$ zone

  5. Spasm Waiter Says:

T3 and Gdad- So glad the kiddums are okay. I can’t imagine that helpless feeling that I am bound to feel at some point in fatherhood. 4 months in now.
    Phreedum- Great fodder kid.
    Miner- Great listening today. Bigups.
BB- JB top row dance party in July!
AE- I hope your week is going better and that your family is somehow finding some peace. My wife knows some of your family through work and was saddened by the news. She works at a newspaper and meets regularly with Cael (sp).

  10. Kaveh Says:

    I went to my 20th reunion….meh

^ Mine was rocking. But then again, all my old-school, close friends are still from high-school. College; not so much.

  11. Robear Says:

Did miner include the ‘rotation jam>Rock a William’ for our pleasure?

  12. kenny powers Says:

    sumo

if you’re out there – not sure if you’re in the area tonight but i might check out that Talking Heads cover band in NoHo. They don’t go on till midnight though, so we’ll see if i’m up for that after vegging at home after work.

  13. Kaveh Says:

Very nice Cities; just got to Good Times, Bad Times….glad it took awhile to get there though. 🙂

  14. Mr.Miner Says:

funny post last night by dude. that shit is pure gold.

  15. Kaveh Says:

@KP: Finally go this 96 remaster fully downloaded; just now. I’ll let it seed all day today.

  16. dorn76 Says:

    Nothing but a press journalist.

    Brilliant.

  17. sumodie Says:

kp, I’ll be in Brookline tonight whooping it up to some English Country Dance in warm up to Saturday’s Boston Ball (I’m being indoctrinated into another whole world of obsessive music geeks)

    ***
recently gave that DC 8.10.97 show a spin: so much uber jammy scary awesomeness that I swore off eating corn for a week

  18. Robear Says:

Miner, I’d be pissed. Don’t press journalists get paid?

Blossom number line gets real slick, once Trey turns the whale pedal off.

  19. Dr Pronoia Says:

Thanks Corey! It’s crazy how fast it goes

And I can attest to how good spac is for creating spac-babies

  20. Luther T. Justice Says:

“You can take our lives, but you can never take our phreedumb!!!” – William Wallace (who loved some 20 plus minute celtic jams)

  21. bhizzle Says:

GDad….it’s looking like it’s going to SPAC I & II for me. Not sure about AC. Not sure I would impress the better half if I went missing for entire weekends twice within a month’s time…but I could always try to go above and beyond on the honey do list. She would definitely suspect something a foot.

  22. Type III Jamming Personality Disorder Says:

step one: get my hands on one of these for use during jams.
step two: hire someone to operate said device so that I can remain un-distracted
step three: rock the fuck out unadulterated-like

  23. garretc Says:

I think the best part about PhreeDumb’s post is where he says:

“Mr miner, you are most Definatly going to delete this message from your board, before anyone sees it, because you are a coward….”

And yet herewe all are making fun of it now and, really, probably forever. Second favorite part is definitely copping AW’s joke, I was trying to remember whose post that was a tease of, I knew it was someone…

  24. Corey Says:

@sumodie, yeah, I’m sure the scene will be less than stimulating. But, reconnecting with the old faces is what I’m after.

@Robear, I laughed heartily at your west coast comment. Funny stuff. Yeah, us east coasters have so many to choose from, we like to leave a few tix for others on the left. 🙂
Personally, I like all the new sheds they pick and wish they did a west/midwest tour, northwest tour, or a run in alaska. Cross country train series in Canada? Yes, please.

Had to go back and check out this HumptyPhreeDumbpty character. I’d like to quote my favorite rock drummer: WHAT?!?!?!?

Ya’ll know what I do for a living. I have musical standards too. If I came out and always played All the Things You Are in 4, played a similiar solo and always quoted the same lick (I’m looking at you, Cairo Trey), I’d expect my supporters to say something. So, I’ll play it in 3 sometimes, or a diff. key, and always try to keep the inventiveness flowing. Certainly, all of us realize THAT is hard to muster every night, for a number of reasons. No one’s looking for 30min of anything. What we are looking for(ward to) is an inventive, creative performance that may push some musical boundaries.

Cities at the Greek wasn’t half a set. But the musical waves created and the places they went seemed fresh, inspired and we – the crowd – audibly responded. Beyond that, we all have our fav. tunes and our, umm, not so fav. tunes. Leave Mr. Miner alone, as he is merely sharing his opinion, using his time to offer us great music, thoughts, maybe a different perspective than you or I, etc.

  25. angryjoggerz Says:

Hooray for BBbabies, Happy Birthday to Quinn! Those kiddos really keep you on your feet. Never a dull moment. I feel like we have been lucky on the sickness part (knock on wood, and she has been to ER 3 times, so not too lucky) thanks to my wife – she is the one keeping this kid alive, no doubt. 2.5 years of nursing doesnt hurt either, really amazing how the mom’s body just provides. Nature!
