TTFF: The Venues of 2012

6.10.11—Camden, NJ (Graham Lucas)

With the announcement of dates, a new excitement is in the air. Phish is, once again, within reach, even if its three plus months away. But in early anticipation of Summer 2012, today’s playlist is comprised of selections from venues that the band will play this summer. Enjoy the multi-era’d retrospective as we fade into the first weekend of March.

Cities -> Good Times Bad Times” 8.10.97 II, Noblesville, IN

The centerpiece of my favorite show ever played at Deer Creek.

Disease -> What’s the Use?” 8.14.10 II, East Troy, WI

A modern-day classic from Alpine Valley 2010, already commemorated on DVD.

Number Line” 6.12.10 II, Cuyahoga Falls, OH

A sinister jam from the second show of tour at Blossom.

Tweezer” 12.28.95 II, Worcester, MA

Phish dropped this big-time “Tweezer” at The Centrum on the opening night of New Year’s Run ’95.

Gumbo” 8.13.97 II, Burgettstown, PA

This version from Star Lake is my favorite “Gumbo” of all time.

It’s Ice”  9.20.00 II, Cincinatti, OH

An out-of-nowhere plunge into psychedelic depths at Riverbend on Phish’s final tour before hiatus.

Sand” 6.19.11 II, Portsmouth, VA

To know this “Sand” is to love it. Every time I listen to this version from nTelos, I like it more and more. Trey absolutely destroys this piece in the context of a whole-band exchange. In my opinion, its the best version of an impressive year of “Sands.”

Reba” 6.2.09 I, Wantagh, NY

Phish dropped this gorgeous “Reba” in the early-evening at Jones Beach on the second night of 2009’s first tour.

Kill Devil Falls > Free” 6.12.09, Manchester, TN

This jam highlighted Phish’s late-night slot at Bonnaroo—the first of two performances.

Walls > Bowie” 6.19.04 I, Saratoga Springs, NY

The otherworldly second set of this SPAC show has always overshadowed this demonic combo from the first.

    You kids and your slang.

  2. Mike in Austin Says:

I’m going to Cali in August, if Phish is there then fine. Gonna have to figure out if I can fit them into my schedule.

    Coming up to visit Robear.

  3. Mr. Palmer Says:

Wonder if they do Halloween this year?

If so, I predict a 2 or 3 night run at Nassau for the occasion.

  4. voopa Says:

BG Civic and Kaiser are very similar. Interestingly, the Golden State Warriors, who now play in Oakland, spent 2 seasons at BGCC but never played Kaiser.

  5. Mr.Miner Says:

@Rob have not heard anything about a festi…

  6. garretc Says:

Which kids and whose slang, MiA?

  7. Mike in Austin Says:

Just kidding about HJKA. I knew BGCC but I didn’t know the other acronym.

Figured it was something like that.

  8. Mike in Austin Says:

It’s not slang, it’s an acronym. Can I just delete that post?

  9. garretc Says:

Ah yes, I dig it cool, daddy-o.

  10. El Duderino Says:

you lookin’ for a fight today MiA?

  11. Mike in Austin Says:

Wasn’t meant to be offensive Dude. Sorry if it came off that way.

  12. joe Says:

Took typing freshman year of high school (in the stone ages). Got an F. Only class I failed. I’m actually a really good typist, though.

  15. Mike in Austin Says:

Did you have an Elisa Carlson is your class too Joe?

Guy to girl ratio was like 6:1 in my class. Hotties too.

I’m the kind of guy that took Jazzercise as a choice in Phys. Ed. to instead of wrestling.

  16. tela'smuff Says:

just want to agin throw out how much I like Kurt Vile. carry on.

  17. dorn76 Says:

Had a roommate with one of those Brother Word Processor/printer dealios…The thing had a tiny screen that displayed like 5 lines of a page, made editing quite a bitch. Then it would loudly print 1 page every 5 minutes or so, quite speedy for modern times. Used to drive me crazy when i was trying to sleep in.

  18. Mike in Austin Says:

Me English no so good. I don’t remember how I did in that class either.

I think Elisa was in there too.

  19. garretc Says:

Are YOU lookin’ for a fight today, Dude?

Because if you are I have some very nice models to show you. Over here we have a brand new “war of words” fight, fresh from the loading docks. These really are the cutting edge, modern style of fight. Or we have some somewhat ironically retro “fisticuffs” over here, these are popular with the hipster demographic, mostly for the curly mustaches.

There’s also some “sweaty, naked ancient Greek wrestling” that we keep in the back, so as not to disturb the kiddies when they come in looking for their “slap fights,” if that’s what you’re into?

  20. Mike in Austin Says:

Goodness. I really like this Reba.

  21. angryjoggerz Says:

::demands MiA to wear Jazzercise gear to shows this summer::

  22. Mike in Austin Says:

    Ha ha ha. Well played.

  23. kenny powers Says:

oh wow, that Talking Heads cover band is playing Providence tomorrow night at 9:00. much easier than tonight at midnight 90 minutes away. Any Prov area peeps here into TH? i might go.

  24. joe Says:

Always sucked when you had to fast forward the cassette you were listening to in your walkman while working on your word processors…old stoner fucks.

  25. Mike in Austin Says:

I was cool. Wore grey sweatpants with the shorts on the outside.

It was the style of the time.
